The Oak grove is the exclusive garden of the Oak Dorm. Students housed i Oak Dorm may use the grove as a place to relax outside and chat with friends or to be alone with their thoughts. Though it is called the Oak Grove, the only Oak tree is an impressive 500 year old grandfather tree. The large branches spread out low to the ground so students can climb up and sit in the tree. Harming any part of the tree is forbidden, and it is said that anyone who preforms a negative act toward the tree is cursed. The rest of the garden is made of low hedges and wooden benches. This grove is open to all students on campus

Running, Verdi slid through the gate and into the Oak grove. She hadn't even noticed where she was, but just now she was focused on something else. "Why you little troublemaker, get back here!" To anyone watching, this green- and black-haired girl was yelling at empty air; but the girl could see exactly what she was yelling at. Stupid spirit was a young boy who kept taunting her by sticking his tongue out and making faces at her. She could have ignored him of course, but when she did, he cried and promised he had a problem she could solve. Though she couldn't just ignore a spirit in trouble, some spirits really made Verdi wish she could do more than just see and hear them. "That's it you rotten boy! So help me I'm going to find a way to beat some manners into you!"

........... / Previous /On a bench in an out-of-sight corner of the Grove, a head snapped up immediately at the sound of the girl's yelling. A teenage boy had been curled up next to his open backpack, leafing through the mass of papers given to all new students. Now, he froze, eyes no longer focused on the sheet in front of him. Other students, he thought. This would be his first glimpse at a few of his classmates. He straightened his hooded sweatshirt around his neck and pushed the mound of paperwork into a neater pile on his lap. Flipping a few mousy tendrils from his eyes, he scanned the area, trying to see the girl making all that noise. When he spotted her crashing through the hedges, a few things struck him immediately. She looked about his age, from what he could tell. Her dye-streaked hair and urban attire seemed entirely at odds with the peaceful and dignified atmosphere of the Academy. But most intriguingly, she was running after and screaming at... no one. The boy blinked, his face betraying none of his surprise or confusion.

Verdi had had enough. She took off one of her boots and got ready to throw it at the aggrivating spirit. "Get ready for it you little brat!" Taking aim, the spirt flew around and around, and it was then that she caught sight of another person. Oh, oh dear. Horrifed, she looked from the boy to her raised arm holding the boot, and repeat. Suddenly she dropped her arm and began fumbling with her boot to put it back on. Her face had become red and only continued to darken as she finally got her boot on.
Standing, she ran a hand through her hair a couple of time and took a deep breath. Come on Verdi, it's not like this hasn't happened before. She tried to console herself, but it was still embarassing. "Umm...hello there." The girl took a tentative step towards this new boy, but thinking, quickly spun around to tell the spirit he could just get the heck out of her, but he was gone. "Great, now you leave." She muttered under her breath. Turning back to the boy, she tried a friendly smile.

Gerald simply stared at her blankly for a few long moments. Now, in his current situation, where he knew no one and nothing about the social hierarchy, he knew he had to be careful. Until he had things figured out, he pretty much had to be uniformly polite to everyone. The last thing he wanted to do was offend someone who, in time, would turn out to be class president, or a prefect, or Mr. Popular... But how exactly was he supposed to respond to a girl who had been running through the campus screeching at absolutely nothing? It was like running into a disturbed homeless person. You tried not to make eye contact or respond in any fashion and hoped they would pass you by. Except she had already spotted him and was talking to him. She seemed embarrassed, at least, which suggested she knew she had been acting like a lunatic. After blinking at her once, he decided to pretend nothing had happened for the moment. "Hello," he said, keeping his expression vague and completely neutral, as though he hadn't just watched her throw a fit at an invisible friend.

A sigh of relief came out the instant he said hello. For the moment, Verdi was just glad he wasn't hostile or drawing crosses between himself and her. That was a good sign, right? He had even said hello back.
Still with a friendly smile, she came up to him and tried to think of the best thing to say. What came out was not exactly what she wanted and in a rush. "That over there, you know, with the yelling, and waving of the boot, at, well, at the air, was just sort of...Well it was kind of a, you see there are spir..." She took another deep breath, blushing again. Come on, don't scare him. I can do this. "I'm Verdi." A hand was extended for a friendly shake. "You are?" This was the polite thing to do, wasn't it? She was pretty sure it was.

'Spir...' Trying as he was to figure out how the girl had been going to end her sentence, it took a second for him to register her extended hand. When he did, he politely put aside his papers and stood, in order to greet her properly. "Gerald," he responded, shaking Verdi's hand easily and looking her dead in the face. She looked flustered still, and he thought that she might not be as outgoing as he first might have thought. He was still looking at her, as though he might read the answer to her odd behavior in her face, when he heard the flutter of paper as a breeze slipped through the Grove. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught movement as several sheets of his paperwork were swept off the bench. He fought down the impulse to immediately lunge after them. Instead, he slowly released Verdi's hand and turned to pick up what was left on the bench. The stout youth slid the papers into his backpack for safe keeping, then, making eye contact with with the taller girl, motioned in the direction the stray sheets had been blown, indicating that he was going to collect them. He turned and began walking, not in any rush, expecting Verdi would most likely follow. ((Okay, getting late, so off to bed for me! Will be back at some point tomorrow...))

((Alrighty, Goodnight))
And she did follow. Gerald, hmm. Verdi commited his name to memory as well as his face. Nothing out of the ordinary or special about this boy, except his reaction to her. "What a strange boy." This was said quietly so that he would not hear, but he would indeed hear the laughter that followed that thought. For her, of all people, to think of someone as strange was simply hysterical. Quickly stifling the laughter, she bit her lower lip so as to not laugh further. Gerald didn't need anymore reasons to think that she was a lunatic.
Hoping to help, she gathered a few of the sheets that had attempted to blow away, having just even jump for a few. Luckily the breeze wasn't strong enough to really send them flying. Verdi looked down at the papers she had in hand, her curiosity getting the better of her. New student papers it looked like. What had he been doing? What better way to find out than to ask him. "So, what were you doing before I spoiled this obviously peaceful place." She glanced around, now bothering to wonder where she had wound up.

"Reading," he answered quietly and briefly flicked the sheets of paper he had managed to collect in her direction. He hadn't been disturbed at all by her quiet snickering, considering it a reaction to his breeze-pilfered paperwork more than a sign of further instability. He bent to retrieve one more piece of paper then scanned the area. It looked like the last one. He waited for Verdi to catch up to him and accepted the pieces she had captured. "Thank you." The girl didn't seem to be in a hurry, but Gerald still hadn't observed her enough to figure out whether she was someone he would want to associate with in the future. Not wanting to get too friendly, too quickly, he zipped up the papers in his backpack. "Should go soon anyway... need to get my uniforms."

"Right, I should let you get to that...wait? You're going for uniforms?" Verdi twisted her hands together. Should she really ask him this next question. Afterall, she could always go for her uniforms later, but she had really hoped to get that done today. They would be required as soon as class started, and it would be best to be prepared. Fine, she'd ask. "Mind if I tag along? I've been meaning to do so anyways, but I figured I'd probably get lost. You know what they say, two heads are better than one." She smiled and laughed nervously. They did say that, right?
Ah, but here was the problem. She ran through what he had said in her mind, and took in his features. The classic brush-off without being mean. That was exactly what he was trying to do. So she backtracked. "But I really don't have to go now. I could always go later. I guess I'll see you around?"

Gerald paused to consider his options. Verdi had left him an out, but usually, people just did that to be polite. If you took the out, they got offended, and that was a bridge burned. One of those complicated social games people liked to play. Of course, Gerald was no stranger to social games. He shrugged, keeping his classic too-cool-to-care expression. "Hey, it's a free country. You want to come, you can come. But either way, we should get going." He motioned with his head off to the right, then turned and started walking. Now that was how you left an out. Act like you don't care, but use the words "can" and "we" to suggest a positive response. He felt pleased with himself for a moment. Now... hopefully, he was going the right way. He had only looked at the route to Moliné for a few minutes. He certainly couldn't pause to pull out the map right now, with Verdi watching. Confidence was key. ........... / Next /

Verdi smiled and caught up to Gerald to walk alongside him. "Roger that." Things were going well afterall. It wasn't like she expected a friendship out of this, but at least she was talking with a living person. Ha! Anti-social, what did those other people know. True, so far Gerald was going about this whole thing much cooler than she was, but she had held her own so far. Apparently social situations weren't impossible afterall, just very hard as it turns out.
As the two walked, the spirit-seer just kept silent for the time being. It's best to quit while you're ahead afterall. So why didn't she quit back and walk away when Gerald had given the heads up he wanted out? His reaction to her; that had to be it. Spirits were the norm in Verdi's life. This strange so-called 'normal' encounter with this living and breathing boy had really peaked her curiosity. What would she uncover in Moline?
((To Moline?))

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was another windy day, leaves swirling around through the grove. Peaceful and calm, this seemed like a good place to relax. Or, it had been. A green-haired girl came running and shouting into the clearing. She seemed to be chasing a little boy that suddenly vanished. "You're so horrid!" It was a scene from many months ago, but there was a change this time. The girl was dressed in the standard Grove uniform, with very un-uniform boots on, and... she was no longer alive. This particular girl had been gone from the campus for as long as she had been dead, but was somehow returning as a spirit. Though, the spirit had yet to become aware of her fate.
And so with no one able to see or hear the spirit, the peace of the grove remained.
