Ariston flicked his tail as he awoke from a lazy summertime nap, and within minutes he was off his bum and on his feet again. He didn't remember why he had fallen asleep, or what he was doing before exactly. But damn, he felt better now. He needed his beauty rest afterall, and for some reason the hottest days made even him fall to the ground!
As he moved himself to walk through a bustle of trees, he worked hard to avoid sun patches, and he kept his body strictly in the shade. It was still humid enough to feel the sun on his back, so he took precaution to keep himself cool, if even for a little bit. Sometimes he really hated the summertime, but he did enjoy summer nights especially. Everyone was out until late hours, and the stars were somewhat romantic. Well, they were romantic because mares enjoyed them, he found no real interest in them for himself. It was all for entertainment purposes, and it was a nice way meet and great even the latest of dwellers!

 It was nearing sunset, and the mare was itching to get 'out and about' as it were. Since she had left the safety and security of her friends not that long ago, she had spent most of the day sleeping, and most of the night wandering aimlessly. The heat was a bit much for her, with her dark coloring and the load of hair on her neck. Still, she couldn't miss her favorite time of the day- when the sun was setting for the night, and the stars were rising up. Unlike some may think, night wasn't romantic for the mare; in fact, even with three children of her own she had little to no clue what this whole 'romance' thing was about. Still, again, that was not something the dwelt on; instead she focused herself forwards, toward her invisible goal. What it was, she didn't know; all she was truly aware of was that slowly her family was going their own way, dividing into smaller, tighter circles. And as her teepee family left, she had noticed the gap in her own family. Calamity was gone, Rahu was gone, Safi- gone. Forrest had taken Chenguang and disappeared a while ago, and Faust had gone crazy. Even Yue was leaving her now, finding love in her own way. And that left Selene with a lot of broken friendships, and what else to succor her in her age? The knowledge that she had a score of 1-1 on her parenting skills, and that the only reason she had the point in her favor was due to a stallion who she hadn't seen in ages? The knowledge that slowly and surely everyone she had loved drifted away from her through her own inaction and haughtiness?

Ariston was predictable, that was for sure. His what-looked-like-to-be boring day had suddenly turned around, and that was because he suddenly scented his most favorite smell. A mare was definitely around him somewhere, and now he would have to play the game and find her. It would have to be smooth though, like always. And he also couldn't look desperate, or blow his cover. He wanted some good company, and all he was hoping at this point was that the mare was pretty of course!
He then turned his body towards the female's smell, and he strut as quickly as he could through the mazed tree area. He was starting to get frustrated as he searched left and right, and he wondered if his senses were off or something. But that wouldn't make sense, he was always right and to the point. One of his greatest prides was his ability to find females in an instant, but this female was tricky for some reason.
But alas, he continued moving around, until finally spotting something blue in the distance. It was prettier then the sky, so it had to be something, right?!

She trotted through the trees, pausing occasionally to glance up through the leafy boughs and smile at the sky. The sun was sinking faster now, and she was starting to see the moon peeking out from behind the light. It was a shame she was inside the forest, and unable to see the full glory of the sky, but she'd learned the hard way not to fly and sky-gaze at the same time. And besides... the branches lent this sunset a hint of the exotic.
The decision was made eventually to stay in this one clearing, until the sunset finally faded out of sight. She leaned against a tree, breathing in the night air and watching the sunset fade from the sky, inch by inch.

Ah yes, success. It was a feeling that Ariston felt constantly, but he always knew when true success was worth it. Just ahead of him stood a very unique looking mare, and before making his way over to her, he decided to scope her out a bit more. She had wings that were very impressive, and hair that was also just as lovely. Ariston could always appreciate some good hair, so that was a plus in the already exciting situation.
With a flick of his mane, he started to make his way over to the female's presence, and he quickly flashed a smile at her luminous eyes. "Well, hello there to you." he then said, while finding a comfortable spot by her. "Are you enjoying yourself?" Well, hopefully she would now that he had arrived. He made sure that his posture was elegant and warm, and that his eyes were sharp and on the mare's. It had been awhile since he had socialized like this, so he would make the best of it while he could.
"And what name suits a lovely mare like yourself?" he then asked, while dipping his head politely.

The sound of another voice made Selene stiffen from reflex, but she quickly relaxed her body. "You surprised me." How had he done that? Had she been that absorbed by the sunset? She gave the approaching stallion a warm smile, sharp eyes taking in the bat-like wings and the horns on his head. Handsome lad, really. All cream-white and gold with a mane that almost put hers to shame.
She pushed herself off of the tree with the flick of a delicate wing to give leverage. "The name is Selene." She met his gaze evenly, with a small smile, and dipped her head in response to his own. It had been some time since she'd spoken to anyone, really, she wasn't going to give this chance up. "And you would be...?"

"Please, allow me to apologize for interrupting your sky gazing." Ariston then made his way over and next to the mare so that he could get a better view of the landscape. He left a polite amount of room between him and Selene since he wasn't sure of her personality yet. There was no reason to rush things, of course! "And I am Ariston, it's a pleasure Selene." There was something incredibly serene sounding about the female's name. And from her appearance, such a name fit her well. He sort of wondered if the mare blended in well against the nighttime sky... If so then that would be a lucky trait.
"So, is the night sky your favorite sky? Or do you prefer the sun-setting sky, or a bright and sunny sky?" In his own taste, he liked all three of them. So he wasn't sure about his favorite environment. Most of the time Ariston wasn't focusing on the environment anyways- he was too busy noticing the inhabits of such a land. "Looks like we are in for a beautiful moon tonight at least. That will leave some wonderful scenery."

She gave him a small smile as he stepped up closer to the line of trees, eyes remaining fixed on the horizon. "No, it's always enjoyable to have company." she assured the stallion. "And anyway, the sky is so big there's plenty to share." her tone was light and teasing. "A pleasure to meet you, Ariston."
The question he asked threw her for a bit of confusion for an instant. Her favorite sky? "I suppose it would be the night sky." she said finally. "When I was younger, I used to imagine that all of the stars were alive, watching our actions. She smiled softly, growing quiet, holding the rest of the story close to her heart. The stallion was a stranger, though one who seemed nice enough; she wouldn't bare her soul to someone she didn't know. "And which is your favorite sky?"

She was right, there was plenty to pass around when staring upwards. When he listened happily to her answer, he could only smile in her direction. "It sounds like you had a wonderful imagination. Do you still believe that sort of thing now? If so, I too think that would be wonderful" It wasn't like he had a problem with imagination and such. He just found it endearing and somewhat sweet to hear her admit that. As IF the stars would be watching him in a good way. They were probably cursing at him for a undisclosed number of reasons. But he'd never tell her that!
"My favorite sky is probably the sunset. I love the colors, the passion, the emotions. The fact that another day is ending but yet another will return." Yes, since everyone deserved another day. "So besides sky gazing, what else do you enjoy doing Selene?" He figured he'd give the mare a break if she wanted one from the sky. Though if not, he was fine with that too! He was always flexible when it came to casual conversation.

She gave a soft, dry laugh. "I gave up on dreams like that a long time ago." The words were spoken sadly, softly. "I found new ones. Safety. Compassion from strangers. Happiness for my children." Then she smiled shyly. "But sometimes I guess I wish that there was more." What was the harm in telling a stranger? It was one time- he couldn't judge anyway, based on his reply. Then again, if he knew her age he probably wouldn't think it was so wonderful! "When I have time between my hoping and worrying about the family I know, and the family I haven't seen in far too long, I give in and whisper wishes to the stars."
If he had good enough light, he'd probably note a purple tinge to her blue cheeks.
"Besides Stargazing..." she let the words drip from her mouth as she pondered, drawing out the 'n' just a hair. "I don't do much, to be honest with you. I spend a lot of time with my two-legger. She's helpless without her Tehya- the mare who raised me- or myself to keep charge of all the silly soquili who live with her and leech off of her apple tree." she grinned, knowing the laugh in her voice would carry. "I travel about, when I can. And I like to think of myself as quite the connoisseur of Honeysuckle."

Ariston found himself pulling away from his usual 'act' for a moment. This mare had a family? Like he? Well, that was an interesting establishment. And here he thought quite the opposite. They certainly looked good as parents! "I have a family as well, so I completely understand." he nodded his head very gently and looked upward while in thought. "As time goes on family also does their own thing. Its a reality we all have to face I suppose." he was incredibly lucky to have a daughter he saw all of the time. But his sons? Where were they? He hadn't heard from them for ages..."I guess the only dreams we can rely on are those we can bid to others. Well, I like to think that myself at least."
When she spoke of her current life, he felt the same sort of quietness in his own reality. He rarely ventured out as much as he used to and he spent much of his time to himself. "Well it sound like you do what you can." he then said, while glancing at her happily. "As long as everybody does just that then we should be grateful!" Well, he was at least. But simplicity was a new way of life for Ariston at the moment. And it was a nice change from her old ways from many seasons ago.
"So, honeysuckle, eh?" he raised a brow rather playfully and waved his bangs out of his vision. "What made you such an expert, if you don't mind me asking?" Hey, everybody had their skills!

She smiled at him warmly when he spoke of his family. "Mated?" she asked finally. "How many children?"
Family did their own thing, eh? She would have to count herself lucky that Safi had intervened and saved at least some of hers. To be able to know her grandchildren was an unbelievable gift, and she was grateful for it. The thought of not knowing them- the way Shahar laughed, the way Taurus smiled; the way her daughter brightened up at the mere mention of her partner's name...
"Everything I can." his words dragged her back and she looked at him wide-eyed. "Sometimes I feel it's not enough." Why was she opening up to him? She pulled herself together and gave him an apologetic nod. "I'm sorry, I feel like I am prying, and probably sharing far more than you wanted to know." Her smile was embarrassed.
"So on to the honeysuckle then." Her laugh was light. "I was enchanted by the scent starting from when I was a kid. If I caught a whiff of it, my nose was following it, hunting it down wherever I could find it. My two-legger would find me in it, sniffing at the flowers, and she started picking it for me as a treat when I was good as a child. She'd pull off the stems and give me the flower with as much of the sap as she could manage. It's sweeter than apples, I tell you."

"No, not mated." he then answered, while chuckling lightly. "And I have three grown children, a daughter and two boys." He sighed then and watched the mare very carefully. She was going through something emotional, something much deeper than he could imagine. He watched her expression change, and a discomfort develop in her expression. And when she spoke again, Ariston was most surprised at her words. "You aren't prying nor doing anything of that sort. If you need vent then I am happy to help."
He wasn't the most helpful of creatures, but he had no problem listening. And, when she continued on very quickly on honeysuckle, he knew something wasn't right. "Although I enjoy your honeysuckle story, it seems as though you have other things to clear out of your mind." he grinned at her then and nodded her head lightly. "So, if I hadn't of walked over here, your mind could have left itself plagued and bothered for the entire night."
It'd be better if the mare could resolve anything she was feeling. Or else, the thoughts would remain for as long as possible. "So, unless I myself am prying, why don't we try and solve whatever is messing with your mind or emotions." It seemed as though he wasn't the only one with family issues. Well, that was a start.
"But, on the opposite end, for some soquili just doing or talking about something else is the cure for all problems. So why not pick your fruit for the matter." he smiled then and hoped he was kind enough in his speech.

She blinked up at him with wide silver eyes for a minute, giving a short laugh. "No, I'm fine. I really am. You're not prying, by the way. I'm perfectly content to talk about myself. I think about old mistakes a lot more than I should. Dwell on the past in a way that is completely unhealthy. I had a stallion who loved me once, you see, but I didn't feel the same way. But I used him, and bore his children, then left him. My daughter came with me, but my son stayed with him. And now my child has a family all her own, and I see her wide-eyed and in love, and my beautiful grandchildren, and I dwell on the grandchildren I'll never see, and wish for a love like hers."
She sighed, looking away. "But I won't have that- at most I may find some other silly colt-stallion with a crush. I just know now that you don't play with hearts, or you lose." She gave him a smile that curled her lip to look almost cruel.
So, Ariston." She looked at him again finally, head tilting to the side. "What do you do in your free time besides sky-watch and try and heal the broken hearts of old broken-down mares?"

It sounded like a situation Ariston had never experienced before. But that was only because he didn't believe in love for himself, or love for that matter. From what he had heard it sounded awful. Everyone was always so sad about the whole ordeal, and this mare was yet another example of love's stupidness. It was a shame the mare was plagued by something so silly, but unfortunately Ariston's mind could only see it in that light. He still felt sorry for her, though, since it sounded like a very hard struggle to go through by oneself. Especially since it involved her family directly.
"I can't be the best advice on that subject." he finally stated, while shaking his head slowly. "But I am sorry you have gone through so much, Selene. It sounds like everything has been rough.." It was the best he could do. He figured it was better to be honest then to go on some rant that didn't make sense.
Her next question was surprising to him, and he blinked before answering with a grin. "Please, don't call yourself broken-down. You're just going through a difficult time." He thought for a moment then, and wondered what the hell he did usually. "You've got sky-watching right, and as for mares, I seem to always be involved in their lives somehow. So in a way your guess was correct." Lucky for him!
