The sandy lion's golden eyes seemed to glaze over as he stared at the rising sun. It was so early for him to be up, but, he couldn't sleep that night. Only the day before he had bumped into a Jackal that told him his future. The jackal said that Gouta would be a father one day. Now this was mind boggling to Gouta. He hadn't even met a lioness before, and well! His lover was a male. After spending the entire night contemplating the future before him he decided he would spend the day or perhaps a few searching for the mother to be of his unborn children.
Sitting under his usual tree, the tree that he had once climbed up and gotten stuck in, he sighed deeply.
"Come out...come out wherever you are..." He stated tiredly.

Keefa had discovered the other's scent not too long past. It was something new, familiar, but not unlike anything she could remember. It was from this train of that that the young lioness came to the conclusion that it must be something to eat.
The pale tip of her tail flicked back and forth as she walked, nose to the ground. Through the tall grass she went--- past rocks and shrubs. Unaware of what really lay around her, she did not notice the pale yellow male until she was nearly upon him. If her kind were ever capable of blushing, this would be a good time for it.
"Oh..." was all that she could utter.

Gouta too didn't realize that there was another nearby until she was right there, and until she muttered. The male cocked his head to the side. Seriously? There was no way this could be the one. It was too easy. She had appeared out of thin air it seemed.
But nevertheless he got right to his feet and stared at her with large gold eyes. She had the most beautiful blue eyes, but he didn't want to act like he thought she was pretty.
"Uuuuh. Hi!" He said, his voice twittering in it's pitch. "Looking for something?"
It could be that she was looking for him...and that would be a coincidence.

"I had uh..." she diverted her eyes to side, pretending to concentrate on a few stray blades of grass, "I was expecting dinner, but instead I-I found you..." her voice trailed off. She had to be the worst lioness ever, and this just proved it.

Gouta gritted his teeth at the word 'dinner'. She could probably take him, even though she was smaller than he was. He wasn't sure if she would want to eat him, lionesses were a new thing to him. The male had been tackled by a cheetah before, and thought he was going to die. But he was pretty sure that this female was kind, like himself.
"Well, that's interesting. I've...I've been awake all night and I'm starving. Wanna go find some food?" He asked, giving an awkward smile.
Flicking his tail in her direction, he began to walk off northwards. This lion sucked at hunting, but maybe this female would inspire him to be better.
"If...if you follow me, I can show you...some...food."
Ugh, he was so awkward around women.

She flicked an ear. Finaly! Someone who could hunt! Somehow, she could remember that it was the females who were to hunt for their families, and mates. If this was so, she would eternally fail. At least, hopefully, there might be something to learn from this male.
Keefa almost smiled. "T-that sounds nice," she said gently. Certainly, he must be a mighty hunter to know where the food be hiding. The embarrassment from earlier slowly began to fade, replaced by hope in perhaps learning something from the other. It would be nice to have something for dinner other than grasshoppers.

Gouta...had no idea where to find food. He figured they could find a herd or some sort and he'd chase them around until he could manage to catch one. Yeah, that's how he'd do it. Master hunter, Gouta. His usual dinner was bugs as well, sometimes decaying carcasses of hyena leftovers. The hyenas never minded the male sharing with them.
"Soooo. What do you wanna eat?" He asked, walking to nowhere essentially. "I might be able to find...like a dead waterbuck or somethin'"
Turning his head to make sure she was following, he gave her another smile.
"You know how to hunt?" Oh god, he hoped she had some skills.

What? This was suddenly sounding completely different than the mighty hunter she had been imagining. Finding something dead? That was her thing. Not supposed to be his!
"Oh.. erm... I hunt grasshoppers," she said rather ashamed. "Was hoping that well... you might be able to..." her voice trailed off as the young lioness's steps slowed.

"Ah, grasshoppers. Those guys are kinda crunchy. Not really my type, I prefer the squishy bugs." Gouta stated, he wasn't sure why he was talking about eating bugs with this pretty girl, when he should be trying to impress her.
Gouta was kind of disappointed that she didn't know how to hunt. He had always heard that females were supposed to know how to do that. A bit discouraged he sat down on his haunches and waited for her to do the same.
"I've...yeah...I can't hunt." The sandy lion said, looking over at her. "I'm sorry. I'm not really a knight in shining armor."
Looking at the horizon with his metallic eyes, he noticed something in the distance. At first, he thought it might just be his imagination.
A lone wildebeest, one that seemed to be in pain, as it was limping on it's right foreleg.
"Ahhhh!" Gouta perked up suddenly at the sight. "Do you see that?!" He asked, nudging his head in it's direction. Two lions could take that single cow easily.

She did see it, and for a moment her heart struck with the beast's pain. What sort of creature or circumstance could injure it so beyond hope only to leave it to suffer before death. Sorrow could be seen in her eyes as she gazed out to the horizon. "Yes," she said softly, "Yes I do..." The ferocious beast within her wanted to run for the kill, but in her heart she wanted to release the beast from it's prison. If that failed, there were always locusts to eat.

Gouta's hunting instincts came out, as he immediately jumped up to all fours. He began trotting towards it, assuming she would be as crazy about killing it as he was. But when he didn't hear her behind him, he paused and looked back. Realizing that her eyes seemed to emotionally connect with the wildebeest.
"Everything okay..." He realized they hadn't even introduced themselves. "What's your name again?"
So instead of catching and killing and eating, he was going to stop it all and introduce himself. What a lion he was.

"Keefa," she said looking out over the expanse. Snapping out of it she turned to him. "Let's go."
Without another moment, she started trotting to the poor thing to not only put it out of it's torment but to maybe gain a meal.

Gouta was surprised at her sudden movements. As he watched her pass him, he let his eyes roam around her body. But once he realized what he was doing, he quickly snapped out of it. No. NO! He would not look at girls that way. He was not interested in girls...but what about what that Jackal had said.
"Keefa. That's a nice name!" He said, coming to realization. "I'm Gouta!"
Following her, he bounded faster, passing her. He would get this cow and bring it to the ground. Quietly, he sneaked around the back-end of the injured wildebeest.
"Keefa, I hope you don't mind if I-"
CRUNCHSPATTER
Gouta had been kicked in the chin. Nearly knocked unconscious, he fell over like a ragdoll. A small amount of blood dripping from his ********>

The young lioness walked over to the male, looking over him as he lay on the ground. "...and what were you saying? Hmmm....?" Her view of him as a mighty hunter was very well and gone at this point. There was, however, something about it which she found to be quite charming. What was it exactly? Keefa had no clue.

Gouta grumbled helplessly as Keefa came over. Only to point out the obvious instead of helping him out a little. In an attempt to get his blood out of his mouth, he spit on the dirt and ended up spitting out one of his canines as well. Gasping, he pawed at the lost tooth mournfully.
"No....noo....my tooth!" Gouta cried. How in the world would he eat now?
Oh, now he was angry. This wildebeest had no right to live! After coming to his senses once again, he leapt up and jumped on the cow's back. The wildebeest immediately fell to the ground and Gouta finished it off. Wow, he had actually killed something larger than a rabbit. He supposed anger sparked at the best of times.
Looking over at Keefa, he expected her to be shocked as well. He never knew he had it in him.
"Dinner time..."
