Firmly ignoring the nagging voice in the back of her head that was firmly reiterating how upset her father would be when he found her missing, Reykuri trotted away from the protection of her father's kingdom. Temple's Decorations was safe in the paws of her brothers and sisters, all elder, wiser, and settled... But Reykuri was young, and strong... A warrior and a princess....
And though she was always lonely, at the moment, she wanted to be alone. So with a final smile to her siblings she leapt into a run, swiftly moving across the waving grass of the pride lands. No particular destination in mind...

 The newly grown Tala streched out on a large rock, the sun's rays warming his blue fur. He'd been out of the borders for about an hour, not knowing of the princess heading his way. He'd waited SO long for this form, and now that it was here...He still seemed empty. He didn't know why, but the hole in his chest was still there. He smiled softly to the grass as it swayed. He hated this hole, the emptyness it brought.

Rey tilted her head, slowing her steps. She could smell him... A scent both familiar and strange to her... Tala, an old friend, a member of her father's Pride... But... He was different now... So was she...
"Hello again, Tala." She murmured as she approached him, smiling gently. "It has been too long..."

Tala chuckled and sat up. "Hello princess Reykuri. It has indeed." He hopped off of his new rock, smiling at the female. "How have you been?" He flicked his mane out of his face, still getting used to all the hair.

Reykuri smiled, eyes dancing. She liked it that he was able to laugh... Last time she and Tala had talked, neither had been very happy... Both had had their reasons...
Shaking thoughts of those times away for now, Rey sat as Tala leapt down, smiling. "I have been well.. Father is letting me explore a little more now, considering..."
She shrugged and winked, giving a bell-like laugh reminiscent of the music her sister made. There was a soft happiness, a fragile joy in the sound... Not the sort of thing for a warrior, but fitting for a Princess, a daughter of a Song...
"And you? How do you like being grown?"

Tala grinned. Ballad was protective of his little girls. The male gave a shrug, rolling his back a bit to remove the kink that had made it's way up his spine. "Eh...I need a bigger rock." He laughed, remembering all the time he had spent on the rock back in the pride borders. He had grown out of that rock, and now he was in search of a new one. None had quite the feel of that old one. "Other than that...and being able to see over the grass, nothing much has changed."

"You need... A bigger... Rock..." She echoed, then eyed him, more soft laughter bubbling up her throat. "Well.. I'm sorry for the inconvenience..I do hope you found something suitable?"
She tilted her head, the laughter making her eyes glow as brightly as her parents. From time to time, they calmed, revealing the soft aqua depths warm with emotion.
Now they just sparkled like stars. "You can hunt now..."
Rey loved hunting... Loved the sneaking.. The chase... The rush she felt when she was victorious... It was like winning a fight... All good.

Tala laughed outright. "You know me. I'm always on my rock. My old one is too small so i'm shopping for a new one. I haven't found the right rock yet...But I will. Just like I will find the right lady someday." He nodded once, confirming his own statement. "Eh...I'm not much of a hunter...I'ma scout. But I do hunt...on occasion."

Reykuri sat, wrapping her tail around her paws and laughing at the simple joy she felt just by being with her friend. "Very well then, Tala! You scout, and I shall hunt, and we shall be the most fiersome friends roaming the lands."
Her voice was teasing, eyes laughing and bright. "Until then, I should think a scout would be able to find himself a good rock..."
Her lovely face shadowed with a fierce scowl, eyes still dancing.

Tala grinned. "You would think finding a good rock is simple. But, It is a very complex task that requires much thinking. The rock, of course, had to be in a premiere location. I have to be able to see everything from it, you know.' He nodded, pausing to catch his breath. "It also has to be comfortable. I can't be hanging of the ends. Its like picking a life mate. A very compicated, and life changing decision!"

Rey considered him, confusion, disbelief and amusement warring on her face. She tilted her head, then shook it, holding back her laughter. A mask of concentrated patience passed over her features as she leaned forward and spoke slowly, solemnly.
"Tala..." She paused for affect. "Tala, It's.. A... Rock."
A rock, was not a lifemate. There was no 'compatibility' or 'friendship' or 'love' with a rock.. It was a rock.. It didn't love you back... If anything, it probably didn't even LIKE being sat on! IT WAS A ROCK!
'Well, I can't say mother didn't warn me about males.. But I don't even think she saw Tala comming..' She thought with a sigh.

Tala gave her a scandalized look. "I KNOW its a rock! But that 'rock' as you put it, is a life long companion! That rock willbe the rock that I sit on forever! That rock is where my childern will sit and learn! Its...Its family!" He put a paw to his chest..."And that rock willbe my son's rock someday...and His son! and His son and...well, you get the idea..." He blushed slightly, "I have lost my mind...I never had a mind..."

She jumped to all fours -VERY tempted to hit him across the face and make him hear what he was saying- and shouted. "TALA! A ROCK is NOT a COMPANION! Its a ROCK! A rock is a rock is a rock! Do you understand? NO companion! You'll probably move your pride! Need a DIFFERENT rock! And your son! He won't live with you all his life -or your daughter all of hers- and assuming they have this freakish rock OBSESSION they will need to find their OWN ROCKS!"
She flopped over abruptly, paw covering her eyes. "Gods! You've lost MY MIND!"

Tala laughed, poking her in the side with his paw. "You have to remember princess, that for a long time, this rock WAS my family..." He shrugged. "Hopfully my childern WONT have my 'rock obsession' because they will have a family." He glanced away, coughing slightly. That went a little to deep. Whooops....

Reykuri twitched at the poking, stiffling a giggle. With a deep breath she sat back up, considering him with a faint frown. Tala had been alone, but he was quite young when her family adopted him...
"We were always your family." She said softly. "You were always important, Tala.. Much more so than some old rock.."
One corner of her mouth tweaked in an almost smile. "But I'm glad the whole 'rock obsession thing' isn't genetic..."
