This is now out of date as the Town Bug Collecting has changed.

1. First go to the World Map and North to the Fishing Store. Logan now has nets available in his inventory as well. Buy one.

Go to Gaia Towns via the "Towns" under the Games tab.

Use the Navigate button to select an area to go to.

2. When you are in towns, you'll notice a little bubble to the far right corner. On each map, if you want to catch bugs, you'll click the little yellow tab. Then the bubble will turn yellow to indicate that you are in bug catching mode. REMEMBER, each time you go to a different area, you will have to hit the yellow tab again to catch bugs.

Remember, If you cannot see the Tab or the Text Box, your Screen Resolution may be too low. Towns works best with 1024 by 768.

When you get close enough to the bug, click on it.

3. When you catch a bug, your avatar will drop the net on it and a small bubble will appear with the bug in it. YAY!
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

If you miss the bug, you'll get a missed bubble over the bug. (Makes you want to squish the little snot, doesn't it?)
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

4. Now that you have bugs (you can have 10 at one time), you'll want to empty out your net so that you can keep catching more bugs. Each map is set up as a block of 9. The center block will usually have a Bogey robot who will save your bugs. The robot at the train station will NOT accept the bugs.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

5. Just click on him and he will take them. Click on the "save" to confirm it.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

6. Watch him suffer a bit, then he will display the bugs that you had in this catch.

7. Done! The bugs are saved to your inventory and you can go catch some more bugs or leave the maps.

Butterflies
User ImageBlue Butterfly
User ImageUser Image|Search Market|

The blue butterfly always gets asked the question 'Why are you always so sad?' Little do his friends know, that by asking that question they only make him feel worse. Because he's just being moody and just wants to be left alone and he doesn't need someone to point out the obvious, which he has no power to change. Geez.

Daddy once told me that when mommy passed away, she was taken by the butterflies into Heaven. From that day forward, I swore that I would torture and kill every last one of them until they would reveal to me the location of this so called "Heaven".

User ImageYellow Butterfly

These butterflies are yellow ... like but-ta.

User ImageGreat Monarch Rare
User Image |Search Market|

The Great Monarch is considered to be the king of the insect world. Its orange color serves to warn predators of its toxic nature.

Beetles
User ImageBlue Beetle
User ImageUser ImageUser Image|Search Market|

Blue beetles are often mistaken for water beetles, the beetles of the sea. But they're not, so don't even try to be like one.

User ImageBrown Beetle

Just beet it.

User ImageRed Beetle
User ImageUser Image|Search Market|

I heard that beetles got their name from the famous Egyptian Cleopatra. Huh? Coleoptera? Oh sorry, my bad.

User ImageRhino Beetle Rare
User Image |Search Market|

The rhino is often poached and harvested of its organs and horn. They are endangered and should be treated with respect and care. But since this is a beetle, go ahead and squash it. :]

Dragonflies
User ImageBlue Dragonfly
User ImageUser Image|Search Market|

This dragonfly always gets teased by the other female dragonflies and then gets left high and dry.

User ImageGreen Dragonfly
User ImageUser ImageUser Image|Search Market|

Dragonfly is perhaps Kevin Costner's worst movie since Waterworld.

User ImageRed Dragonfly
User ImageUser ImageUser Image|Search Market|

Sometimes I wonder why they call the dragonfly a DRAGONfly... it doesn't have scales, no claws, no massive mouth of teeth and doesn't breathe fire. Some people just have TOO much imagination.

User ImageDemonfly Rare

Oh god. You Devil.

Flies

Once a fly was circling around me as I ate dinner. I backhanded it SO HARD it hit the wall and died instantly. I HATE flies.

User ImageRed Fly
User ImageUser Image|Search Market|

I heard that these flies used to be more abundant until their land was taken away from them and they were forced into reservations. Natural selection in effect.

User ImagePurple Fly Rare

Don't let these flies bite you in the tail! GNAP!! O_O.

Patience, young grasshopper.

User ImageCricket

Anyone for a game of cricket?

User ImageGolden Legs Rare

The Golden Legs were said to be born when the skys rained gold into a feild of grasshoppers.

Cicadas

Once the female cicada comes above ground, she mates. Then she lays her eggs and dies. HAHA! What a loser!

User ImageFirefly
User ImageUser ImageUser Image|Search Market|

In some cultures, the firefly was mistaken for the spirits of ... uh ... other flies.

User ImageThe Whistler Rare

The male cicada abdomen has two drum like sound chambers that amplify its trumpet like snout.

User Image Yep, there is the Demonfly.. and the Rhino Beetle... and and... The whistler. There should be more.
