Scyeth was not looking forward to this.

And that was the understatement of the century. First of all, since they already had the fire, wasn't it just a little bit late to be going over something like 'lab safety'? What the bloody hell. This must be some sort of joke. He wasn't even in class, and already, the hot-tempered blond was agitated. It didn't help when he realized who would be teaching the dreaded class. Professor Ardanay Veilwood.

Great.

Stupid jerk. Scyeth looked around the room and rocked on the balls of his feet. Stupid class. Stupid, stupid. Stupid. The Aussie huffed and folded his arms over his chest as he glared at an innocent wall. Let's just get this over with, already!

As he strolled through the classroom door, he knew this was not going to be one of his better classes. The air in the room was already dense with the pure anger and whatnot that was emanating from the Aussie youth. Still, he put on a pleasant smile. He knew that this boy did not like him, but it seemed the boy didn't like much else other than his Chinese boyfriend. This didn't matter much to the Professor. He was told to teach and teach he would.

"You may take a seat, Mr. Akazar," he said gently as he moved over to the nearby desk and set his things down properly. He shuffled through a few pieces of paper and did this for a moment longer before pulling out a few sheets of paper and a writing utensil, just in case. He also had two die in his hand.

"Please complete the following assignment, and then we'll discuss it." With that, he smiled, and set down the assignment on a nearby desk.

Roll the two die. The sum of the numbers will determine the outcome. If you roll an even number, please write up a detailed paragraph on the proper disposal and handling procedures of toxic chemicals. If you roll an odd number, than please write up a detail paragraph about how to handle ones self in an emergency situation, such as an explosion or the misuse of a machine.

Scyeth said nothing, just shooting the professor a deadly glare as he took the nearest seat. He watched as the professor put a pencil and paper down nearby, complete with a pair of die. The blond bristled, but got back up and walked over to read the assignment. Blue eyes narrowed as he read the foolish instructions. He crumpled the paper and tossed it back on the desk, heated gaze finding Professor Ardanay's.

"Are you ******** kidding me?" he hissed, completely on edge. Hello! Was he not there while the building burned? "Doesn't this all seem a little, oh, I don't know, useless to you? Aren't there more important things to be worried about? Like, oh, say fires?" Scyeth glowered, practically radiating anger. What was wrong with these people?

Sir Ardanay Veilwood was not a man prone to anger or such fervent emotions such as the one Scyeth began to display, and so he calmly stood and listened as the other threw his little 'hissy fit'. He was a teacher, a man of science. A patient man with a stern disposition given the need; now seemed like a rather good time to present that need. His face lost the smile and adopted a more serious countenance. Turning away, he let the other get as angry as he wanted, not truly fazed, and then pulled out another sheet from his briefcase, this one blank.

"If you are finished, Mr. Akazar, I think perhaps you'd rather do this assignment instead. Please write one hundred words on fires, since that seems to be your topic of choice today," he gave a strange sort of smile, daring the boy to retaliate. Granted, knowing the boy, he probably would, but Ardanay was not disturbed. What would be, would be. He merely hoped he could get a lesson out of this before the boy decided to walk out entirely, if even he would risk such an offense.

Scyeth growled deep in his throat, a sound entirely unhuman as he glowered at the professor. "Fine, whatever," he grumbled. "Dickweed," he added under his breath, sparkling blue eyes just daring Professor Veilwood to do something about it. He wouldn't go down without causing a huge fuss first, no siree. That was just not proper Scyeth Style.

Fire is a very dangerous thing. One must take proper precaution. There should be working sprinklers, fire alarms and fire extinguishers. People should be trained to use the fire extinguishers. There should be a proper plan to contain the fires, like all the doors closing when the building is evacuated. There should be a plan for evacuation AND there should be a plan for fires with magical property. Half the school focuses on magic.

Scyeth looked up at the teacher. "Done," he muttered. He wasn't sure if the thing was actually one hundred words. It was a paragraph. Good enough.

Whether or not Professor Veilwood heard the comment or not, he would not reply. He kept a knowing sort-of smile on his face and waited patiently for his dear student to finish his work. Perhaps the other did have a shred of obedience in that body of his. However, if he'd use it was another story entirely. Ardanay wasn't one to threaten and pester them into doing things. They'd do it, or they wouldn't. And if they didn't, they would face punishment. There was no way around it. This was a class, and it would be taken as such.

As he reached out and took the paper from Scyeth, he read it in it's short entirety. He wasn't so sure it was one hundred words either, but he wasn't going to count. That would be a superfluous waste of the valuable time he had with this blonde boy. "So if you had to come up with a plan, what would it entail?" asked the Head of the Science and Tech. department with a fluid ease.

Scyeth snorted and gave Professor Veilwood a defiant glare. Oh, he was just pushing his luck today, wasn't he? "I dunno, don't you think the Science Head should be the man with the plan? I mean, it was his building that got destroyed," Scyeth sneered. "And his students that could have been killed." He couldn't help but point that out, as well. What if they had been trapped without the sprinklers? How would he ever explain the deaths of the Saviors? Especially him?

"But. If it were up to me. I'd have an evacuation route for each floor. Fire extinguishers in the lab. The sprinklers and fire extinguishers should be checked on a regular basis, and, even if it is wicked lame, there should be fire drills. So people know what to do, instead of running around like headless chickens. And we should talk to the magic department, so we know how to deal with magic fires and s**t. Because seriously, More might not be around next time to kick random fire a**. Someone else should know how to deal. Hell, he just got lucky! And if it happened once, it can happen again, you know. Learn from history, or it's bound to repeat itself."

Nothing was being done, except for some people catching some mice. But had anyone learned anything? No one was showing any interest. Trying to forgive and forget. But Scyeth couldn't let this die.

This was his chance. Make it, or break it, Scyeth. Make it.

As a teacher, as the Head of the Science and Technology department, and as a human being, most of all, Sir Ardanay Veilwood knew the idiocy of letting the boy's words get to him. It should not have been possible. No. It was not possible. Things were a lot more complicated than this kid seemed to realize. But was it really? Was it really anymore complicated than simply going in and stopping everything. He'd had his orders, didn't he? It was indeed his building, and he had had every intention of protecting everyone and making it work. But in the end, he had been rash and too slow and it had been too late for him to do much of anything.

In short... he had failed.

And he knew it. Didn't he know it? And this boy. This boy... what right did he have to question authority? Every right. He was one of the Saviors. The future of mankind embodied in that stand-offish attitude. But Ardanay's face remained set. He listened respectfully to the student's words and his defiance, and was unmoved. They were all obvious things. Natural things that they should indeed have practiced. He would make a note to bring it up more directly with Norman for the possibility of a next time.

"I will take note of your suggestion, and if you're satisfied with fire safety, then how about we return to lab safety," his voice was firm, but gentle. Not chiding, not derogatory, not any of that. It was simply precise. Lessons had to go on. Point for him. "Do you have any idea what sort of field you intend to study for, Mr. Akazar?"

Scyeth bristled, calmed, bristled and calmed again. He couldn't tell if the professor was mocking him, or if he was serious. His face never changed. His tone never changed. It was very agitating. How was the Aussie supposed to know where to go from here if he didn't get any hints, eh? The blond grumbled and gave Ardy a wary look, pausing before he answered.

"...fine," he muttered. If they never continued, he never get out of here, after all. It would seem Ardy could handle the wild youth better than Scyeth himself had expected. And, what's this? "I want to be a soldier. And one day, a general," the teenager said proudly, momentarily forgetting all about his irritation. He would be a general someday. A great one.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 14, 2008 5:42 pm

Well now! It seemed that there was indeed something that made the youth seem far less prickly than normal. A general? He definitely seemed like the sort to deal with the technical side of his school. Definitely the kind to go gung-ho into something, guns a blazing without really considering much of anything except the now. He wondered if there was a real underlying mature reason beneath this, or just the boy's usual fiery spirit needing to be given a gun and whatnot. Well, that didn't much matter. At the moment, he would be teaching the other various safeties pertaining the department he was going to pursue. No use in teaching him about chemicals he wasn't going to use.

Going back over to his folders, he shuffled through the files until he found a few sheets of paper. Doubtful that the other would take and read them, he knew he would give them anyway. He held them out to the other. "Since you're so specific about it, here's a sheet I've prepared dictating the various things that job will entail and the other precautions to be taken during such a thing. Later in the class, I'd like you to look at over and ask me if you have any questions. Right now, however, I'm curious to know if you are aware of any of the safety measures to be aware of as a soldier?"

The professor really shouldn't judge. Scyeth wasn't all gung-ho about weaponry; in fact, he'd only handled a gun once his entire life! (And he wasn't exactly impressed with the entire situation, to be totally honest.) He did have a reason, actually. It was expected of him to become a leader. His father just assumed he'd be some political deviant like himself, but the blond had other plans. He wanted to be a real leader. To actually do something himself, not have others do it for him. To earn that title on his own and not have it just handed to him.

Scyeth took the sheet and gave it a once over. Huh. Was he gonna need a folder from now own? Wait, safety measures? Of course. "Don't shoot yourself in the foot," he said bluntly. "Seriously. Know how to operate your weaponry. Be careful of your men. Have a game plan. Probably, like, have some kind of first aid." He shrugged. "How's that?"
PostPosted: Sat Jul 19, 2008 11:49 am

"Basics," Ardanay said with a nod. "But since this is a class about lab safety and your form of lab will be things like weaponry and whatnot, you'll need to be a little more detailed than that." There seemed to be a bit of amusement in his voice, but not much. He was a teacher, a firm one, he didn't tease the students. He chided them but really he was just a good guy who liked to teach. He loved all his students, even ones with a bit of an attitude problem like Scyeth Akazar.

"Operating your weaponry depends on your weapon of choice. It is also important to clean these weapons and to take care that you know. If you'd like, and you probably should, perhaps you'd care to take a few notes on the subject?" He paused, waiting to see if the other would comply or if he had another comment to say. It just didn't seem like he would get through even the introduction of a lecture without a comment from Mr. Akazar.

Scyeth blinked, surprised. Professor Veilwood was...relenting? No. The blond blinked again, frowning suspiciously as the teacher continued speak. Strangely enough, what he had to say actually...made sense. Scyeth tipped his head sideways, a strange trait he'd adapted while thinking. Yes, yes, don't make fun. He did actually think from time to time.

"Weapon of choice," he murmured, rubbing the side of his face. He didn't really have a 'weapon of choice'. In fact, he never really considered being a soldier would, well, require him to use a weapon. Slowly, he shifted his gaze back to the professor, locking him into an intense gaze. Well. Now he had his attention. The ball was in his court. "What kind of choices do I have, anyways?" Good to know all the options.

It took Professor Veilwood a few seconds to realize that Scyeth was no longer in constant glaring rebellion of every word out of his mouth. In fact, at the very least, he seemed pretty intrigued by what was going on and being said. So much so that he seemed to actually care for once. It was a change. Perhaps a nice one or perhaps not, but whatever it was, it was a change. It seemed that his class could finally proceed without much more hindrances except for questions.

And he loved questions.

"Well, we currently have some new technology that's a bit fancier than normal guns and the typical arsenal. I can't quite release specifics since I don't have any myself quite yet," he gave a short gentle smile and went on, "and then of course... you could create your own new sort of technology to fight with. This idea is rather encouraged, since I believe the student would be better able to use something they themselves make." He looked at Scyeth with his gray eyes, wondering if he'd have any other questions before he might continue.

Scyeth positively lit at the professor's last statement, eyes all sparkle and full of life. Finally. Finally, finally, finally! Something worth listening to. Something worth waiting for! It finally felt like he was getting somewhere. Doing something. He had come here for a purpose, after all, and sitting around all idle-like was not healthy for the youth. Especially such an active one. (And he had an attitude, to boot.)

"My own technology..." He tried it out for himself. Yep. Yep, definitely sounded just as good out loud as it did in his head. This was going to work for him. "When do I get to work on that?" He couldn't help but sound like the proverbial kid in the candy store. Oh, but, wait. "I have to take this class first, right?" Given, he'd was almost finished. Right. Right?

"Oh, man. My own technology..."
