Sharing a room took some getting used to. More so than Scyeth originally assumed, actually. They had been roommates once before, he and RuiZhi, but apparently they had grown different in their habits in their time apart. Or maybe Scyeth had gotten used to having his own space to through his crap all over. Yeah, it could be that too. It was a good thing Scyeth didn't have that much stuff, but he was already spreading. Everywhere. His clothes seemed to prefer a pile of the floor. (He did try to keep his junk off the bed, though.)
That aside, there was the readjusting to...habits. Scyeth was a very antsy creature and...yes. He needed to move. A lot. RuiZhi seemed to study a lot and Scyeth constantly found himself trying to not get in the way. (A difficult task when one wanted to be everywhere.) But today, RuiZhi was off...somewhere. Studying, or in class, Scyeth assumed. The perfect time to do some studying of his own. Which always involved push-ups, of course.
"I wonder when he'll be back," he muttered to his cat, flipping a page.

RuiZhi was, in fact, sitting in the hallway, looking at the box in his hands. He'd bought the thing for Scyeth, but...for some reason, he was being shy and uncertain. Was it okay to be buying gifts this early? Would his boyfriend even like it? The youth sat there, biting his lip and looking at the box as though he was waiting for it to do something amazing and fantastic rather than sit in his slightly damp palms.
He didn't know when he'd gotten so nervous around Scyeth. The youth hadn't slept the first night with him, not one wink, but it wasn't because he was uncomfortable. Seeing the blonde sleeping so peacefully, wrapped around the Chinese boy's body like a pillow, RuiZhi found that his Aussie boyfriend was really, really attractive. He had looked so serene sleeping, and it was all he could do to keep still, his hands roaming up and down the other's back and arms, amazed that the one snuggled against him was...his.
That's what it was - amazement. As if he'd finally realized what it all meant, and what it all could mean. He'd been stricken by a case of the butterflies that hadn't gone away ever since, although he was sure his boyfriend was too busy making their room 'liveable' to notice the faint blushing and occasional staring. He was like a love sick puppy, wasn't he?
RuiZhi scowled and pushed himself up, taking the object out of the box and placing the latter into one of his pockets. It was just a gift. And Scyeth was his boyfriend. This shouldn't be so hard! Pressing the door open, he caught sight of the blonde doing push ups and studying, something he was quite good at. Trying to be nonchalant, the young man closed the door behind him, remarking, "Studying? What class finally caught your interest?"

RuiZhi was right. Scyeth hadn't been terribly good and notice the subtle change in his boyfriend's behavior. The blond was never good with subtleties, not really. (That was sort of how they ended up together, wasn't it? Scyeth couldn't contain himself any longer? Yeah.) He should probably pay more attention to detail, though, if he was going to get anywhere in this school. Augh. Work. The Aussie really wasn't the bookwork type, he really wanted to just go-
"Why, hello there." Scyeth looked up from the pages he was flipping, brushing some stray locks from his face to offer RuiZhi a smile. He shifted so he could sit on the floor and shoved away the book, only to sigh, lean over and retrieve the object so he could out it back in the shelf. "Reading your old notes," he informed the Chinese student, smiling wider. His own notes were not that good, let's face it. "Just, ah, you know. Catching up." Adding harmless doodles should RuiZhi himself ever look back through those books.
Scyeth spied the empty box, blue eyes lighting up. He nodded towards it and tipped his head to the side. "Hey, what have you got there?"

It was a good thing the Chinese youth had anticipated such a thing; he'd even gone so far as to rewrite all his old notes that were in his native language into English. It was a good refresher, anyway. RuiZhi chuckled, tossing the box at Scyeth, "An empty box. Cool, huh?"
He padded over to the blonde, kneeling next to him. The young man's mind was whirling; it was just a gift, and yet, he wanted it to be right. Scyeth was the first person he'd ever cared about in a manner more closely than family or friends, and he didn't want to screw up one little detail. RuiZhi was waiting for the right opportunity to present itself, and failing that, well...there was no option. He would not mess this up!
Brown eyes peered over the book the Aussie had been studying. "Are my notes legible enough?" He was grasping at straws for conversation, but he was trying to distract the other as well. It was a good thing he wasn't studying to be an assassin, he was already failing at being stealthy.

"Oh," Scyeth frowned, fumbling with the little box before finally getting a hold on the slippery thing. The blond peered inside. No, no there was really nothing in it. How boring. The Aussie grunted and tossed the box towards the trash can, snorting as it bounced off and barely made the waste basket. Heh. He looked back over at RuiZhi, tipping his head to the side. Was he stressed out, or something?
"Oh, uh, yep," he said with a nod, looking around for the shirt he shed earlier. Ah. There it was. He got up and grabbed the black shirt of their bed, tugging it over his head before yawning and heading back over to sit with Zhi on the floor. "I think we need some chairs or something. Or beanbags." Kind of lame, but way better for lounging around. Scy loved to lounge. It should be the national past time, in his opinion.
That thought communicated, Scyeth yawned again, flopping down into RuiZhi's lap. The concept of 'personal space' was never pushed upon the youth. It never really came up, moving all the time. That, and his dad wasn't exactly the prime candidate for 'parenting'. But whatever. He nuzzled RuiZhi's lap and smiled, looking up at the other teenager. "So what are you up to, today?"

RuiZhi chuckled as the box was quickly discarded, amused. Pondering as Scyeth talked, he nodded, "That'd be good. Do they even have those things in the mall?" Kudos to him for not stuttering over the mention of his least favorite place. Brown eyes blinked down at the young man suddenly in his lap, perplexed. Now how was he going to do this with a giant blonde cat in his lap?
Moving a hand to brush through the golden locks, he smiles a little lop-sidedly. "Nothing, actually." RuiZhi could have hit himself as soon as the words left his mouth; the Chinese youth was always doing something, way to give himself away! "Just thinking." It wasn't much of an improvement, but it was better than 'nothing.' And it was true; he was thinking of how he was going to present the gift...and thinking of why he was so lost and embarrassed about it.
It was awfully nice to see Scyeth smiling again, however, and that soothed him somewhat. Considering, he decided he'd say exactly what he was doing without incriminating himself just yet. "See, I have this surprise for someone, but I'm really bad at surprises and I don't know how to do it. I'd ask my sister how to do it but she's still in the medical ward." While RuiZhi's 'sister' was more impulsive than well planned, he had a feeling she'd know how to make it special. Ah well. Nothing like learning from the person of intent, right?

Scyeth shrugged and yawned, running his tongue over this teeth as his pondered this. "Dunno. We could go check it out." He shrugged. "Or I could. And bring back the spoils of war," he offered, remembering something about RuiZhi not liking the mall. Of course, his dislike might be overcome by fear for what Scyeth might bring home. A reasonable fear. Scyeth wasn't the most logical of shoppers.
"Thinking, hmm?" If one was going to do nothing, they should actually do nothing at all. "You could just spend time with me," he said, raising his eyebrows and wriggling a little. And then the Chinese student brought up his problem. The blond blinked, perplexed. "A present?" he asked. He liked presents! But...it wasn't for him if RuiZhi was telling him about it, huh? Hey...
"...is it for Weiyuan?" the blond asked suspiciously. It was the only other person that made sense. Which, of course, irked the Aussie. He was still sore with the other Chinese student. Before he offered advice, he'd have to know if it was Weiyuan.

A dark brow lifted at the inquiry. "No," he replied honestly, a little perplexed by the other's tone of voice. Despite Scyeth and Weiyuan's feud, RuiZhi himself knew nothing of it. As far as he knew, they'd only met for the first time after the fire. He felt a sour tightening of his chest at the memory of that night, brushing it aside quickly.
He smiled down at the young man in his lap, drawing a thumb from the edge of his lips along the length of his strong jaw. "How would you like to be surprised? In theory," he added, amused. RuiZhi never liked being deceitful, or to lead others astray, so being coy was not a strong point for him. He wanted to be open with the blonde, but for the time being, he'd just have to see what his boyfriend said.

"Oh. Okay then." In that case, he would be more than happy to help RuiZhi surprise his friend. Or whatever. Who knew, maybe it was just Alex? He didn't exactly get along with her, but he didn't feud with her the way he did Weiyuan. "Well, I-" Scyeth paused and blinked. How did he liked to be surprised?
"Uh, I don't get surprised that frequently," he admitted, sheepishly. He was a master of spoiling his own surprises. It came with being very nosy and impatient. "But, uh, I do like presents." He assumed they were talking about presents. It was the best kind of surprise, after all, and who didn't like presents? (In fact, Scyeth was rather spoiled and really did enjoy getting things for no reason.) "I mean, everyone likes presents," the blond added, looking slightly puzzled. He hoped he didn't sound too selfish.

Scyeth had no idea how apt he was in his consideration about spoiling his own surprises. "You are terribly unhelpful," RuiZhi informed the blonde, his smile in tact. Ah well, he failed on one front, but since the other didn't suspect much, it wasn't a complete bust, right?
The young man dipped his free hand into his pocket in a slow motion, looking more like he was leaning on said hand than doing anything else. "I know people like presents, but how you give them the present can be special too, you know," he chuckled softly. "I just really wanted to 'wow' you, but I can't even keep up with you let alone get ahead enough to surprise you."
As he said this, both his hands had moved beneath Scyeth's hair, clasping the plain black rope behind the other's neck, securing the necklace in place. Like the rope, the charm was also black, a fang of some black stone that almost looked solid; in direct light, one might be able to see the minerals within. As a personal touch, RuiZhi had carved something in Chinese letters in the back, a dash and a more complex symbol next to it.
"Surprise," RuiZhi smiled.

Scyeth snickered and rolled his eyes. "I said I'd help, I didn't say anything about actually being useful," he quipped, flashing RuiZhi a cheerful grin. He reached up, tracing a finger along the other's jaw as he spoke, not entirely paying attention. Well, until his radar caught 'presents'. Being the spoiled boy that he is, the blond practically light up, getting a feeling he knew where this might be headed.
Oh, oh yes! He was right! The blond practically glowed, bestowing upon RuiZhi the finest smile he'd smiled in months. "For me~?" he purred, voice more musical than normal. Oh, he really did love getting presents. He looked down, gently pulling the charm away from his neck to oogle at the fine piece. "What's it say?" was quickly followed by a rush of motion. The blond surged forward with enough force to tackle the Chinese student, pulling him close and hugging him tightly.
"Thanks."
He couldn't mean it more.

The youth's smile widened at Scyeth's reaction, more than gratified by the blonde's attractive smile and pleased tone of voice. "For you," he repeated quietly. RuiZhi was unable to reply to the next question, as he was suddenly wrapped up in the Aussie's arms with enough force to knock him over, if not for that support. He curled around his boyfriend in an equally tight embrace, elated; that'd gone much better than expected!
"You're welcome," he murmured against Scyeth's chest, chuckling a little to himself. "Maybe I shouldn't tell you what it means," he said after a moment, brown eyes trained on the necklace now so close to his face. "And inspire you to learn Chinese on your own." Then again, maybe some of the Aussie's playful nature was rubbing off on the otherwise demure RuiZhi Tai.

Scyeth started to purr loudly, nuzzling the top of RuiZhi's head happily. "I think you should tell me what it means," he rumbled playfully, curling around RuiZhi and pulling them both down to the floor. He groaned and stretched and rolled on top of his boyfriend, leaning down to steal a kiss. The blond smiled and settled back down, straddling his boyfriend (and effectively pinning him).
"Seriously though," he started, all sunshine and smiles. "Thanks." It was really nice to get little presents for no reason, you know? The Chinese student had certainly made Scyeth's day. Maybe even made his whole week. "And I guess you don't have to tell me if you really don't want to..." he drawled, raising his eyebrows. He still wanted to know.

RuiZhi found himself hugged, pulled down, kissed and straddled. He likely looked as bewildered yet comfortable as he felt, his glasses skewed slightly over his nose, hair coiled around his head like a dark halo. The youth smiled lazily at Scyeth, deciding he rather liked being on this 'cloud 9' he'd heard so much of. He'd have to see if he could find more things to shower on Scyeth; he rather liked seeing his boyfriend smiling so much, so...so genuinely happy.
"You're welcome," he replied at length, his voice quiet and content. Resting an arm behind his head so he could better observe his blonde counterpart, he smiled, "I don't know if I should right now. I might embarrass myself." As if to prove his point, his cheeks darkened just a touch. Considering what he'd etched and what it meant, his smile faded, but there was a great deal of warmth in his earthen eyes.
"I just want you to know...that you're very important to me, Scyeth. You're always thought of, you know that?" If possible, his cheeks brightened with his words, shy but honest.

Scyeth blinked down at RuiZhi, suddenly realizing how stunning the youth looked. Blue eyes locked gazes with brown for a brief moment before flickering to the near-black halo. How strange. A dark angel? No. RuiZhi could never be described as dark, not in a million years. An angel for a demon? Yes.
That was more like it.
Oh, wait, what? They were talking. He should pay more attention when he asked RuiZhi a question. The blond shook his head, blinking owlishly for a moment before quirking his grin lopsided. "...embarrass yourself?" he echoed, raising his eyebrows. "Damn. Now I'm really curious," he purred, leaning down to steal another kiss.
He blinked again, paused, and sat back up. "...yeah," he said slowly. "Yeah."
And nothing could be more important than that.
