Why does Brom eat meat? Didn't he get all the training like the others?

Ah...good question. I have to say, I never really wondered myself...maybe after awhile, he lost touch with what being a dragon rider was? Hmm.. You see, eithere that's a really interesting question, or just a slip up from CP, before he made elves and dragonriders vegetarians..

Maybe he did it to just "blend in" with the town...I mean since like everyone in Eragon's village eats meat maybe Brom thought it'd be kinda suspicious if he didn't.....?
I donno, just a thought....

But remember how when Eragon went out of Ellesmera to get some rabbit he couldn't eat it?

Yeah, I guess it's just a slip up...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a slip up. He was only what, 14 when he wrote the book. Brom also could have kicked the habit when his dragon died. His senses of the rest of the world could have become dull when his Saphira died...he was a lot stronger with her.

that is a very sensible theory.

I'm still going to say slip up, and he hadn't developed that idea at that time. But, as you do to make up for slip ups, I'm sure you can work around and figure out some reasons why. Link in the death of his dragon (I'm sure there'd be a little misunderstanding if I said 'the death of Saphira'), and the fact that he doesn't really do much magic anymore....need I elaborate? No longer having that power, and feeling how easy and (somewhat unfair) it was hunting etc. falling back into human company... There are reasons you can pull out that could have contributed to it.

I doubt it was a slip up because then why would he write in the next book that they were vegetarins without changing or editing the orginal books its more likely because broom was trying to fit in as was indicated in an earlier post or her slimply lost his tune with being a dragon a little bit.

*nods* There has been multiple occasions in Eragon concerning people(Brom and Galbatorix) losing their minds when their dragons died, and seeing as Eragon didn't stop eating meat before he got his proper training, and in some way because he was related to Saphira and saw how brutally she could kill. Simply to eat. I think memories like that faded away as Brom tried to forget all about his dragon, and live a normal, yet extraordinary life.

The issue with eating once-living creatures was the simplicity with which Riders and elves could kill them. Eragon was stunned when all it took was to think of the rock killing (was it a rabbit? I forget) whatever he was after to disgust him. If there wasn't any effort involved, it was practically just wasting a life, when you know very well you can survive without it.

From what I remember, Brom hardly ever used the Ancient Language to do anything after his dragon died. I'm assuming he hunts his food the good ol' fashioned way, or simply buys his meat from people he knows have spent good time hunting.
