"And therefore, by process of elimination, the electron must taste like grapeade."

For the record, superstring theory makes my head hurt.

...Not that that necessarily has anything to do with this thread, however. (OH, PUN. *Rimshot!*)

Upon further research into the annals of the Internet, I found that this is a shot where Professor Farnsworth is teaching a class entitled "Mathematics of Quantum Neutrino Fields."

There's a lot of interesting scientific/mathematical tidbits in Futurama. Oh, if only I was more nerdy to find them myself.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Quest Thread.

Visible Dark Matter
Dark matter is an invisible form of matter that exists all around us and adds mass to the universe. It flirts with gravity, but not electromagnetism. It can, and does, pass right through you and the rest of the planet without anyone ever noticing. Well, on a good day, it would seem. Dr. Kyou was lucky enough to stumble upon yet another metaphysical quirk - dark matter you can see with your own two eyes. It's still dark matter because, however it's generating an appearance, it's not those electromagnetical photons. In theory, it doesn't have to interact with the rest of the physical world, just like the invisible variety, yet it does. It's as if when it realized it could no longer go about its business without being noticed it lost all joy in doing so. Still, it seems content enough. Why else would it "sit" patiently at the bottom of a vial and allow itself to be "toted" around by the good doctor?

In this description, you'll notice I did not bother to mention what visible dark matter looks like. I really have more points of reference for myself than anything, and Kyou can decide what to do based on this or not. (I just like arguing with myself.)

•Dark matter is nothing like all the matter we know. We're all made up of elements, which are then made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons, which themselves are made up of quarks, which are further divided into strings, etc. That's not really the point. The point is that dark matter is not made out of any of these. It's completely foreign to us as physical beings, made up of particles we're still contemplating due to fallacies in our theories and observations of Everything. As I've described it, it's still made of these mysterious particles, just with something comprehensible to our brains (i.e. sight). So what it looks like really doesn't matter, so much as that it has some substance.

•Since this stuff has a gravitational footprint, dark matter has been "photographed" before - colored images of the invisible universe based on mass. This could be one way that truly visible dark matter appears - colored based on density.

•Dark matter could be taken literally as well. Since it's not absorbing or reflecting light as we know it, perhaps it is the absence of it. I'm taking about an inky, deep-space black. Of course, the problem here it that that could be confused with other things (e.g. shadow, to name one), unless Dr. Kyou ran some tests on it first to determine if this black stuff can be classified as a fel essence. Or maybe it still has some weight to it, some gravitational effect that makes you heavier in its presence, and that tipped him off beforehand.

---------------OLD------------------
quote="Visible Dark Matter" As it was never meant to be visible, this dark matter is terribly indecisive about it's appearance. It could be white, or broken into any and every color in the visible spectrum. Sometimes it will randomly "disappear" fading to red or violet first. The dark matter has not lost it's visibility - it is merely visible in another wavelength, be it infrared down to microwave and radio waves, or ultraviolet up to x-rays and gamma rays. Also, as a throwback to its true nature, this stuff is incredibly heavy. How Kyou was able to stuff even a modicum's worth of this stuff into a vial is anyone's guess.

Dark Matter - A substance that accounts for much of the mass in the universe, yet only interacts with gravity and weak nuclear force. The name is less a physical description and more a way of saying "we have no idea what this is," as a lack of electromagnetic emission means it has no appearance as we could perceive it. Proof can be found in the rotational speed of galaxies and other cosmological velocities, where an outside force must be acting upon them for such behavior to occur. No one known particle can be attributed to dark matter and have the observable universe work as it does, though there are several theories:

WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) - A form of "cold" dark matter that is incredibly small and slow-moving. Neutrinos are the closest known particle, but are much too light, and thus, would be fast and "hot." Cold dark matter is the best explanation for the shape of the universe, with minor discrepancies. As such, it's probably what the above corruption would be made of.

MACHOs (Massive astrophysical compact halo object) - Along with WIMPs, these particles make up the cold dark matter spectrum, as it were. However, MACHOs are a general name for a wide variety of known celestial bodies that can explain dark matter in the halos of galaxies. They can be black holes, neutron stars, even brown dwarves and planets so long as they do not emit their own light. It is doubted that these massive objects make up a significant portion of the dark matter of the universe.

Neutrinos - The most likely candidate for hot dark matter. Hot dark matter is not thought to be alone, but is grouped with cold dark matter to explain the structure of the universe. Very small and very fast, neutrinos are hard to detect due to their lack of interaction with electromagnetism and the strong nuclear force.

Sterile Neutrino - A hypothetical neutrino that only interacts with gravity. If proven to exist, they could help to explain hot and/or cold dark matter, but substantial proof has yet to surface.

Limestone

As a sedimentary rock, it comes in quite the variety. Shale, slate, metamorphosed into marble. Stalactites and stalagmites. Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian. Colors vary due to the sheer number of impurities it can have. Fossils help create it and are trapped within it.

Given that the term is very much a blanket, for this, I could and probably should narrow it down. But to what? To the Silurian shale of my native soil? To the Beer Stone of England's older structures? To a handful of oolites? As a soul, it could be anything, and it is this flexibility I love. You can find it most anywhere, bits and pieces of animals long past cobbled together to form a rock. Not one singular soul, but pieces of many, a Frankenstein's monster of the natural world. It's possibilities, it's effects on a potential Raevan are endless.

Do I want a Raevan with a personality disorder, convinced it is more than one being, yet sharing a single body? Do I want it imprinted with the holiness of a church, the sleaze of a commercial skyscraper, a memory of a loving couple etching their name into the side of an abandoned building?

The truth is, I don't know what exactly I want. But I do want limestone.

----------OLD-----------
For some odd reason, my brain decided that the perfect soul for Visible Dark Matter would be limestone.

Limestone.

Yes, a sedimentary rock formed most often by the fragments of marine wildlife.

Hey, rocks are fair game according to the front page, so why not? After thinking about it more, though, I realized that it could be a deliciously devious concept. This pretty much becomes my excuse to make a Raevan as messed up in the head as I want him/her to be. Also, more science! (Research is my friend... with benefits.)

My headlogic likes to think that a soul of limestone is actually just an aggregate or a hive-mind of thousands of soul fragments from these marine creatures. (Borg-minded Raevan? y/y) I can totally imagine referring to himself/herself as "we," and not in the royal sense. That is, (s)he'd really mean it in the plural sense.

Dreams on crack and no sense of self, ahoy!

(...I'll pimp this out with various ideas of the kinds of limestone and possible quests for the guardian-in-question to obtain them after I set up some of the other posts. Spent enough time here as it is!)

[The Raevan]
To see old notes, quote post and scroll down.

This is a post mostly for notes to myself on possible outcomes. Nothing in the way of appearance, mind, just silly details and nuances to the character.

Name: Sargasso
From the Portuguese sargaço, "seaweed." Is also the name of the "sea" formed by the North Atlantic Subtropical Gyre, which contains the Bermuda Triangle, large streches of sargassum that have the ability to strand ships, and a deposit of marine debris similar to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Alignment: Lawful Good OR Chaotic Good
Dark matter, based on our limited understanding, seems inherently chaotic. Yet, at the same time, this particular sample seems to behave to how we see the universe, rather than something we don't understand. Either way, dark matter is essential to the makeup of the universe, explaining how galaxies cluster the way they do and such things. Thus, dark matter is good in a necessary sense, but to what end it is good is debatable.

The limestone is not factored in in this account. The way I currently have the limestone affecting Sargasso (leaning towards cobbling of animal fragments) probably pushes the pendulum more to chaos.

Food: Calcite
Calcite is the primary component of limestone, and there's actually quite a few real-world items that utilize it. Like that concrete sidewalk or those antacids in your medicine cabinet.
It's an easily accessible mineral with disastrous effects if removed in large quantities. (A pothole-creating Raevan, anyone?) And, really, I can't think of anything dark matter would contribute to without needless extrapolation. The only thing that could really have any clout, in my mind, is... some form of electromagnetic wave frequency. E.g. radio waves, visible light.

-----------------OLD---------------
For the most part, I could care less about the finer outer details of the Raevan. The idea behind this post is more to just throw up a bunch of ideas on his/her internal workings and see what sticks.

Name: Sargasso, irregardless of gender (though, admittedly, it sounds a bit more masculine).

Alignment: Chaotic Good. I like the hippies! (The treehugging-even-if-spitting-in-the-face-of-the-law kind not the pot-smoking-all-talk-and-no-action kind.)

I know that this, currently, is in another post - that'll be deleted once I work that one out - BUT: I keep imagining the Raevan, regardless of gender, referring to itself as "we." I don't know if it's the fact that I find hiveminds so creepy or what, but I just think that that would fit the soul of a limestone. Many varieties are made of dead animals, so I was thinking that past-life experience and memories would not come from being the stone itself, but rather a patchwork of the extinct animals' lives. The conscious mind of this would be patchwork as well, bits and pieces of the souls of animals gone stitched together into one very loose singularity with no real sense of self as in oneself.

Also, there's the matter of abilities, too. Being partially made of dark matter, this would lend such a Raevan to probably have some form of gravitational ability. However, I have no idea how to go about that, or even if I want to go about that, as this is a special kind of matter and, in my mind, more attention should be paid to its corruption rather than the attributes the normal stuff would have.

With that in mind, one of the ideas I have is a sort of invisibility based on the electromagnetic spectrum. If the definition of the Visible Dark matter is deemed to be okay, I could see the Raevan having the same sort of ability to fade in and out of different electromagnetic wavelengths. It isn't true invisibility because, if he were visible to the infrared spectrum, a human wouldn't be able to see him/her but a snake would. (It should be noted that (s)he'd be visible in different spectrums, but would not emit the wavelengths of that spectrum. That is, you're not gonna become the Incredible Hulk if (s)he's gone gamma ray on you, m'kay?)

Another thing based in the electromagnetic spectrum would be a temporary corruption of its laws. It's in dark matter's nature not to interact on an electromagnetic scale, and being that light in all its forms is based in electromagnetism, visible dark matter is a bit of a paradox. Now, I'm not saying that the universe is going to be torn apart as protons and electrons become unable to do their dance in the presence of this guy, nothing as tiny and important as that. I'm thinking more along the lines of electronics going dead in a small area around him/her - temporarily. After all, electronics work only because of semiconductors, so if conductivity were to fail.... Another example of this would be compasses not pointing to magnetic north, if you need a less tragic thought.

[050808] Ugh, this post needs some organizing. Anyway, something occurred to me what with all the new Raevans floating around: stats. Numbers are not what I'm going for - just an educated guess high or low based on all the factors listed thus far. (Soul and fel essence mostly.) It's just a way for me to try and figure out more what the personality of Sargasso might be, so humor me, okay?

Okay, with a corrupted form of WIMP dark matter, I'd say that such a Raevan would have either a relatively high strength OR endurance. I have to say one and not both. Sargasso could be strong because of his/her ability to withstand his/her own enormous weight (what with weight being a result of gravity), yet increased mass means a greater attraction to things. It'd be hard to run a marathon when your body is pulling you towards anything significantly larger than you like, say, the earth. I just can't see Sargasso able to sustain any kind of activity for long periods of time in such a scenario, which can then be extrapolated to a lower creativity and intelligence as well. Sargasso would be like a flighty sumo wrestler, har har! Conversely, Newton tells us that objects in motion tend to stay in motion unless an outside force acts upon it, and with Sargasso still having a bit of an effect from dark matter's gravity, (s)he could very well have a high endurance and continue with one thing until the very end yet be unable to stay still and hold her ground in one spot. Sargasso's mind would wander in this case, leading to perhaps more favorable intelligence and creativity. Being stuck to the bitter end on one thing can't be good for one's humor and friendliness.

...Personally, I kinda like the flighty sumo wrestler idea, maybe because of the imagery. I mean, a Raevan with ponch! Awesome. Also, the idea of pouring so much research into this and having the result be a bit dumb is... quite refreshing, actually. A challenge! Sometimes I worry that characters are too intelligent the way I write them when they are not me. I like to learn and try to do so often, but that doesn't mean characters have the same knowledge I do, you know? Anyway, that's a personal ramble. Besides, the way I have the soul is already erratic, so why not? That idea came to me before this little comparison thing I'm typing up, so strength doesn't have to figure into that, but I think now the endurance would be low if the focus isn't there.

[Guardian Angel]

The Basics
NAME : Kyle Morano
GENDER : Male
AGE : 40
OCCUPATION : Hired hand/freelance
RACE : Human (afflicted with lycanthropy)
LIKES : consistency, rhythm, order, simplicity, eggs, working, hanging out with friends
DISLIKES : guns, violence, hate, genetic engineering/gene manipulation, secret societies of any sort, being chastised, being lonely, crowds, chaos, bismuth
LOOKS : Shorter than he should be due to poor posture. Rather muscular, but weather-worn. Hair is more pepper than salt, farmer's tan, angular. No facial hair, short haircut, dull earth-toned clothes. (Will I ever use a full sentence here? Probably not.)

PERSONALITY : He's been a real sadsack as of late, borderline despondent. Work isn't steady, friends are busy - that kind of crap dragging him down. Plus, you know, the whole "monster" thing that's still to be resolved. He used to be a more upbeat person back in the day, cheering other people up and not taking guff from anybody, but his energy has been slowly sapped from him. When he has nothing to do he'll just sleep (regardless of time of day) so that he won't feel sorry for himself for the umpteenth time. He won't complain to anyone but himself, though that doesn't mean he doesn't panic easily. Other than that, he's pretty quiet, keeps his opinions mostly to himself, somewhat level-headed, though not as much as he likes to think he is.

HISTORY : Kyle grew up in a single-mother household - he never knew his father, though sometime wished he did. He looked up to her, and tried taking a good deal after her - patience, strength, passion. He had a handful of friends throughout school, and figured he was bright enough to attempt college. Unfortunately, the death of his mother during sophomore year put a strain on his mind and his wallet, and he was forced to drop out. Taking up board with a friend, he went job-hunting. Most work he got were menial jobs on farms, ranches, and the like. Anything that took manpower, though not ncessarily skilled men. This would be the entirety of his career, though not that he knew that at the time.

It was during these early years that The Incident happened. He became afflicted with lycanthrophy, turning into a hulking lizardman every lunar eclipse. What was "lucky" in terms of frequency was most unlucky in additional side-effects, such as an allergy to bismuth, found in many kinds of bullets. The idea that he could go on a rampage further depressed him (though it's never happened) as well as the idea that he was now a monster. (He's since repressed the fact that it was his friend's fault.)

The double blow of decreasing number of jobs available due to increased mechanization plus this monster has left him a shadow of who he used to be.

Other Information

Housing: Kyle lives in a small, one-story house outside Durem that he bought for dirt cheap in a foreclosed houses auction about a decade back. He's slowly spruced up the place to passable with his own two hands, but there's not much left to do with it. This, too, has added to his boredom because there used to always be something to fix over the past ten years, and now there's really nothing left to do.

Friends: Most of his friends are hanger-ons from his high school days, with few exceptions. The two he's probably closest to are Brian Schroeder and [insert name once re-found].

Blah blah blah, I have more to say later.

Questions?

...and by angel I mean werelizard.

You guys want to know a secret? A good deal behind actually making this quest thread is to give me a reason to finally write up stuff about Kyle Morano.

This'll probably be the slowest post coming, being the least likely to impact people's critiquing AND for the sheer amount of explanation/diagrams I'll have to put up for this guy.

Srsly.

Forthcoming.

--------------OLD----------

"Hello!"

Kyle didn't really expect an answer. Zul was probably sleeping (or whatever he did at night). And of course he didn't leave any lights on. Kyle felt his way to the light switch.

Click!

Nothing.

A few more tries and it was clear they weren't going to come on. With a resigned sigh, the man started slowly to the fusebox. Sleep would have to wait, though apparently sleep didn't feel the same way. In a moment of dizziness, he lost balance and fell over as his foot steeped on something uneven.

"S'not my day..." he mumbled, pulling himself into a sitting position and halfheartedly trying to rub the sleep from his eyes. The object he had stepped on was bright in the moonlight from an open window. You would think that boy would have some common courtesy and close the window....

Even though the circuit board needed checking, Kyle decided to inspect the object anyway. In his hand it felt like slag, and holding it up to the gibbous moon for clarity showed he wasn't too far off. It was a water bottle, perhaps several, melted and warped out of shape. A bewildering sight, to say the least. Now that Kyle's eyes were adjusting to the light, he could see there was something wrong with the window itself. It… it was broken.

“Zul?” Something wasn’t right, as the quaver in his voice attested. Plus, he could’ve sworn he heard some stifled snickering. Adrenaline wiped out any trace of tiredness he had at the moment – he flung himself towards the corner closet, hurtling over a vast array of objects. Once opened, however, he saw that the fusebox itself had been damaged, with switches frozen and broken off.

“Hey~” Kyle nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound. It took a moment for him to realize that it was just Zul. He turned around to face the Raevan, whom had a barely-suppressed grin on his face eerily lit by the soft light of the rune under his half-formed abdomen. Like he was expecting something.

The man opened his mouth to say something, but closed it immediately. He took a few calming breaths instead. “No, I’m not even going to ask,” he thought aloud.

“What?” Zul wasn’t expecting that. His smile started to waiver. “Don’t you want to know why?”

“Not until the morning, no.” Kyle was making his way slowly to the bedroom. How was he going to pay for all this damage? The thought depressed him more.

“Oh, come oooooooon,” the Raevan whined, following his guardian. “Aren’t you even a little bit curious?” Kyle said nothing as he reached the threshold of his room. This cheered Zul up again. “Oh, I wouldn’t go in there if I were you~” he said in a sing-song voice as his guardian turned the knob. Inside, the room was thrashed – perhaps more so than the rest of the house, if that was at all possible. A small figure was huddling in the corner.

This caught Kyle’s attention, and Zul knew it. The guardian went to go inspect the figure. It was Jax, his friend Brian’s pet jackalope. Kyle told him that he’d take care of the beast while Brian was off on a business meeting for the week, despite his loathing for the monstrous rabbit.

Zul was wiggling with anticipation. “Are you mad?”

What kind of question was that? He sighed. “No, I’m not mad, Zul.” He picked up the poor creature. It was shivering as much of cold as it was from fear, Kyle could immediately tell. “I’m disappointed.

Zul would’ve kicked the air if he could. “And I thought I made a good Colonel Nefarious, too,” he muttered.

“…what?” Jax struggled free of the man’s tightening grip and bolted out of the room. Colonel Nefarious was a character from The Badlands, an exceedingly sleazy and outrageous daytime soap opera. Zul watched it religiously. Kyle disliked it immensely.

“You know, you never get mad,” the Raevan accused as if it was a crime. “Ever.”

“Is that what this is about? Making me mad?” The concept was almost as stupid as The Badlands.

“Yes!” Zul said with exasperation. “It’s disturbing! Nothing pisses you off, and that pisses me off. It’s like you’re a robot.”

“Look, life is not like a soap opera, Zul. People aren’t all hedonist bastards. I’m sorry I don’t melt down like Penelope Stripteeze – I have my reasons. And no, I’m not telling you what they are,” he included before Zul interrupted. “I’m going to bed now. We’ll talk about this in the morning, okay?”

And with that he closed the door on a very dejected Raevan.

[Writing Examples]

I, personally, think I've not done anything of worth in a while - and really, I'm out of any roleplaying loop - so highlight and copypaste the few examples I have below if you want to read them. I just ganked 'em from my el-jay.

(Newest to oldest)

A little bit of nothing:
"Where are you going?"
"Nowhere, Dad."
"There seem to be a lot of nowheres."
"Look, Dad... I just don't want to be around when she's here. She... she scares me, okay?"
"...We were married, you know."
"What?"
"Once. A long time ago."
"Then why do you still hang out with her?"
"I love her. I always have."

Interview:
V - Dragons are another one of those nebulous terms. There really is no such creature.
I - But aren't you half dragon? That would mean one of your parents had to be a dragon.
V - Not in the least! Look, before you interrupt again, I'll explain. See, there are three things a beast needs to be called a dragon. The most important one is to be a genetic shifter, which is just a fancy way of saying you can ******** anything and get kids out of it. Now, from what I know of biology, species mostly cannot interbreed unless they're really close, and even then the offspring are usually sterile. But dragons can, therefore they're not really animals or anything.
I - I see. You also mentioned two other stipulations that a dragon must have - what are they?
V - Oh, that's easy. You have to be able to see ravens and speak dragon.
I - Hey, I can see ravens - does that mean I'm part dragon, too? (laughs)
V - (laugh) No, hon, it's not the bird I'm talking about, but a little spirit-plane critter. They're black and usually hang around angry people. I know some kids can see 'em too, that's why I said you need all three to be a dragon.
I - What about the dragon language? Can you give us an example of something in dragon tongue?
V - I'm afraid not. It's... it's difficult to explain if you don't know it. I've heard that some people can teach it, but I'm not one of them. As for a few words, well, you can't even hear if you don't know the language in the first place. That's why it's a dragon thing.

- excerpted from an interview with
Valentine [name obscured], half-dragon waitress

Songfic (...yes, I am that guy):
We have one chance.
One chance to get everything right.
And if we're lucky we might.

You know, you think I'd be pissed at Brian, for, well, you know. ******** up my life.

But I'm not. And it's weird. I mean, breaking it off with your best bud, I've seen it before, I'll seen it again if I live as long as he says I will. (I'm not looking forward to trying to pass centuries of time. Good god, no wonder demons are crazy.) Maybe it's because he was honest. Hell, he taught me more about myself than my mom ever did. I wonder if Dad ever knew.

My friends, my habits, my family, they mean so much to me.
I just don't think that it's right.
I've seen so many ships sail in, just to head back out again
and go off sinking.

Really, I'm ticked more at the government than anything. Just... s**t. I met some lycans - I don't know when, I can't tell the time anymore - and I mean real lycans, not ******** up playthings like me. And you know what? There's an entire subculture out there. For diseased people. 'Cause, you know, that's what we are. But just because I've got some blip in my genes or something stupid like that, I'm not considered human like them. No, they get help, counseling, ******** kickbacks for being infected but otherwise normal. Hell, the first guy I met? A cop. A ******** pig, and he was okay with that, because it meant he didn't have to hold back on his strength, his senses, because the Man knew and encouraged it.

I get a shock collar like a ******** wild animal. Tranqued if I get out of line, do anything they don't like.

I'm just a box in a cage. I'm just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box of mistakes.

I didn't sign up for this. Scratch that - I think I did. I'm the one who signed up for drug testing. Didn't know Brian worked there, didn't know they were working on making and curing weres or anything. I just needed the money. Money I don't have anymore, can't really have anymore, since I'm too scared to get a job and pay taxes, because then they'll know where I am and get that collar back on. And if I evaded, I'd get a fate worse than jail anyway.

I heard from a kid who wasn't a kid that they use us, the real us and not the fakers like me, as spies. Against our will. Because we can change shape, and they can make us do it. Either way we die, though. Those guys have to get poisoned sometime, or shot. We're not immune, or at least I'm not. Even if I am poisonous too.

Didn't mean to laugh, didn't know I had.
Didn't know the better part of what you said 'cuz in your head you are not home.
Didn't get the joke. Didn't mean to poke another,
just to save myself from something something or another one.
Well, walk home.

Oh god, oh god I killed a man. I bit him, he was dragging me away, trying to drug me. For questioning. Instinct kicked it, I stuck out my jaw, bit down. Hard. How much poison was in it? A regular sized one can't kill, but I'm more huge than they are. More poison. More bleeding gums.

(It hurts, and it's not supposed to. I know this now.)

I killed a man. I killed a man slowly. And I'll have to carry the memory even slower than that.

I'm just a box in a cage. I'm just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box in a cage.

I take to wandering the desert now. Sometimes I'll buy feeder mice if I come across some money, but that's not often. He still keeps in contact with me, Brian. He helped me escape, you know. We were best buds. I'd like to think we still are, even if I see him only a few times a year if I'm lucky.

I guess he feels guilty. Even he had to get drunk before he stuck the needle in, he just couldn't handle it. Or maybe it was euphoria, that he found something in me that could further his research, get his name out there. Maybe both. It's hard to say, with him. I was the outcast because I looked like a freshman for all of high school, he was one for being a nerd.

I spend most of my time practicing. I have been, for the better part of a decade, now. It still hurts sometimes, though. Sometimes I'll bleed, sometimes I'll wake up in the dead of day. Pain and loneliness, how fitting.

Was I meant for this?

We have one chance.
One chance to get everything right.
My friends, my habits, my family, they mean so much to me.
I just don't think that it's right.
I've seen so many ships sail in, just to head back out again
and go off sinking.

Update - now with more science and less joking around. Not that jokes are a bad thing, but... SCIENCE!

Still need to work out that limestone post, but I don't have the time to go though all the different forms right now.

I need better writing samples, too. Dayum.

I'm not quite sure how one would roleplay a raevan created from an essence that is based off of something that people don't really know anything about its nature...

...but, hell, that soul idea is awesome! I like how you plan for the raevan to think of itself as a plural being. ^^

Extra kudos for using a rock....plus one bonus kudo for a sedimentary rock.

Believe it or not, my initial thought on fel essences was even more impossible than dark matter - some form of quintessence/aether. 8D; Except how I view it in my mind is a lot different than the things normally attributed to it, so I figured that was a no-go. Especially since it's celestial? I knew that some of the Greek philosophers thought of it as what made up the stars and such, and high than the other four (water wind fire earth) buuuut... yeah. Too pliable and too much the potential to step on other peoples' toes.

So this is marginally more acceptable, but you're right - I have no idea how I'd go about roleplaying such a thing. But I do so love a challenge! Even if I may not be up to it. D:

So many kudos! @o@ Thank you! I liked the idea of a rock since, well, it's mentioned on the front page of the thread, plus it give me a chance to geek out with some weird extinct species. XD; I just wasn't sure if a collection of a bunch of soul fragments glued into one being would be acceptable.

Blah blah blah. Man, I have other things to do than throw up an argument with myself about the finer details of matter affecting mind. I guess it's better than the five hours I wasted today on Pokemon Colosseum, though. Damn Ho-oh, why can't I seem to get you?!

SO, YES. Update, albeit a wee one. And not on limestone. Or the Guardian.

...I guess it's really not much of an update then. Sorry.

I'm just going to say this right now: I LOVE your ideas XD Not only are they well thought out and interesting, they even have science ideas behind them, something that I love! But enough of my shpeeling, good luck on your quest!

I am so sorry for not replying sooner! D: Thank you thank you thank you! I'm totally gay for science, glad to meet someone else who is and approves!

[EDIT] Okay, I'll just put this here instead of a new post, since it's just Monday.

Upon reading the description of the Self Indulging Ink, I think I may have to reword my fel essence description. Perhaps as the Visible Dark matter oscillates between spectra, especially the visible spectrum, it stays on one wavelength before switching to another. For example, if the dark matter was within the green wavelength, it would just be green. The only time it would be another color is when it stared moving to another spectrum, and it would probably do so progressively, e.g. the green would transition to yellow or blue, depending on whether the wavelengths were getting shorter or longer. This way, the only time it would appear rainbow-ish is if it oscillated through the visible spectrum really fast. Which is a possibility that does not need to be certed.

Of course, this means it would never be white, because white is a combination of all the visible spectrum, not bits and pieces.

Still no work done.

HOWEVER, being the literary klepto I am, I borrowed one of my teacher's old SEED Magazines because it had an article entitled Before the Big Bang, and within the same issue was an article on dark matter. I enjoyed it, and think referencing it in the future will help me be able to better grasp this enigmatic problem of a quest I've taken on.

If you want to read it, here's the link:
Seeing the Unseeable: The limits of our senses confront the limitlessness of the universe.

I'll eventually throw the link in another post to better keep track of it. I'll also need to look into what other articles they have - I saw a few trying to find this one that may also be helpful.

Just a brief update tonight - I revised the Visible Dark Matter fel essence description and shunked up some points of discussion for myself based on that. The old information is still in the post should you wish to read it - I just sized it down to font 0.

I'll need to edit some other posts to agree with it, but for now, I'm off to bed.
