Background History: The Master Chief was the sole Spartan to leave the Reach system aboard the Pillar of Autumn (with the exception of Linda-058 in cryo). For all he knew, he was the last Spartan alive. All of humanity depended on him, for even after their defeat at Halo 04 the Covenant were still strong, and there were new enemies and variables to contend with that Earth knew nothing about: the Flood, the Forerunner, and their creations, such as 343 Guilty Spark.
After his whirlwind tour of Delta Halo, his introduction to a host of new "friends", and a hitch-hike back to Earth aboard a Forerunner vessel it remains only to be seen how he plans on "finishing this fight".
He has lived most of his life in various military camps on Reach; stolen from his family at age six and his name changed to "John-117", his entire upbringing has been centered around making him a mechanism of military efficiency, utilizing both force and tactics. He displays an odd sort of attitude for a creation of the military: he does not glorify his violent actions, but merely does what he has to do. He does not hate his enemy; he kills them because he knows it is his duty to kill them; to win. "It wasn't [the Chief's] job to make things suffer - he was just here to win battles. Whatever it took."
He is an unconventional Hero, for though he is strong, fast, and tactically brilliant, he is the epitome of none of those attributes, and is surpassed by other Spartans in each area. What John does possess above all is leadership and, to both Cortana's repeated salvation and bewilderment, probability-defying luck.
(cortana bio):Cortana is a fictional artificial intelligence in the Halo series of video games. She is voiced by actress Jen Taylor in Halo: Combat Evolved and its sequels, Halo 2 and Halo 3, and also appears in the expanded universe novels Halo: The Flood, Halo: The Fall of Reach, Halo: First Strike, and Halo: Ghosts of Onyx . During the games, Cortana assists the protagonist - the Master Chief - on his missions, providing backstory and tactical information to the player. In the Halo universe, she is instrumental in preventing the Halo installations from being fired, which would have wiped out most life in the galaxy.
Next to the iconic Master Chief, Cortana is the next best symbol of the game series; the character was replicated twice for action figures preceding the release of Halo 2 and Halo 3 and was also featured in the heavy marketing preceding the third game's release. Background History: Bass was born of the remnants of PharaohMan's data, which were extracted from the Navi by Wily, who wanted his Ultimate Program. Bass had no memories of his previous life as PharaohMan until he abducted MegaMan and read his memories, learning his origins and awakening his "true self".
Bass attempted to consume the data of Gospel, for the two shared the same origin, to become whole, only to be consumed himself. When MegaMan destroyed Gospel and restored all the NetNavis devoured by the beast, Bass took residence in Shuryou Gospel's android body. He left, vowing revenge against the world. He reappeared as the creator of the robot Allegro, and tried to absorb MegaMan and ProtoMan's Ultimate Programs at the beginning of Stream. He was easily defeated by Slur and imprisoned in the UnderNet, losing his means of travel through the human world in the process.
Bass is captured by Dr. Regal and is brainwashed to obtain the Tadashi Hikari Program, and fights MegaMan and Colonel. Bass, upon returning to normal, wanted to make Regal pay for the "disgusting act" of a human using him as a pawn, even if meant siding with MegaMan. The duo were no match for Nebula Grey, so MegaMan opted to have Bass absorb his Ultimate Program. The resulting BassCross eliminated Nebula Grey, but Regal summoned a black hole in a last ditch effort to destroy the Navis along with himself. Bass flung MegaMan out of harm's way as he himself got sucked in, ultimately absorbing Nebula Grey's power, which proved vital in his rematch with Slur. The tables had turned, and he absorbed her, impaling her through the chest on his arm. He vanished, and his current whereabouts are unknown. As he was in this "unknown place he was sucked through a hole into this world.
