OTHER than following guild/gaia rules, here are some pointers for the Advice forum:

Just because you give advice doesn't mean you can't ask for it.

Don't suggest that someone do something major. (Like quit their job.) That can end up pretty badly. That's also a job for lawyers and psychologists, and possibly against the law. So....try to avoid that.

Be nice. Don't tell someone they're idiots. That's against guild rules too.

ALSO! When your problem has been solved, put [resolved] in your title please!

I'm going to butt in here, just a little bit. Sorry about this Soul, but questions are questions.

For one thing, sometimes major things should be suggested.
However, there are better ways of doing it, and one should always avoid giving bad advice. When giving advice you should usually list any bad out comes you can foresee, as well as good ones.

Examples:

"Quit your job."

This is not good because its flat, and is more of a command then advice.
When giving advice, you want to share your experiences and wisdom, and thus provide different options for the person to chose and learn from.
Thats better advice then just flat statements that leave them a bit confused.

So, why not say something more like --

"Have you ever considered changing careers in the future? There might be a better job for you out there. And this one seems to be causing you a lot of stress for very little pay. I think it might help your situation some if you were to start looking into other jobs you could apply for in the future.

Just becareful you don't up and quit your old job too soon, remember, you can get turned down for other positions over stupid reasons and you don't want to be jobless.
Also make sure you do your home work! I once made the mistake of appling for something I didn't know a lot about and I didn't even have half the requirements!"

--

See? Here I tell them what a possible course of action is. Including the outcomes, and some of my own experiences. This is advice. Even though its major advice. Its not illegal, by any means. And it might even be helpful.
The person doesn't feel pressured to leave their job, but rather they are now aware that perhaps its not the best thing for them, and that they have other and better options.
