'Do you think I'll remember their names? Their faces?' Dory looked over and across the water from the cave entrance. Squishy shrugged her small shoulders and stood next to the mare, watching the wavelets scurry past the stones where they were standing.
'That's up to you. You remembered Swafi's name didnt you?'
Dory nodded, glancing over her shoulder at the three baskets, just visible in the gloom, their precious contents all quiet for the moment.
'Then it should be the same thing. You should give yourself more credit. And not worry too much. After all, there might be a point when you wish you could forget them. Kids being what they are.' the vixen chuckled a little.
'I dont think I'll want to do that. Besides, it isnt like I have control over what I remember.'
Dory flicked her stubby tail, letting out a sigh.
'I hope Swafi comes by soon. I miss him. And he needs to see the baskets.'
The mare turned away from the view and back inside the cave, lowering herself down near the baskets and nudging them close to herself. Now that she was seated near them she could hear the tiny sounds of the lives within; the snuffles and the scraping noises as they moved inside. Squishy slipped out of the cave, Dory hadnt eaten anything since giving birth and she would find something that she could easily carry for the mare.
