Along the southeastern borders of the Forest of Noctua, a shadow type bustled about cheerily. She was quite busy with the task of cleaning out her hovel, which was scattered with all sorts of debris that had accumulated in her dark gray pack and other bits that her two gathering companions often brought back to eat or gnaw on. It did need a bit of tidying and the hopeful young sentinel wanted it to be perfect for when a good friend of hers came to visit. The shadow really did not have much family. Her father had passed some time ago and her mother did the same not long after she graduated, but she did have a good friend from her younger years and she had sent word to him via messenger chirop, requesting visit if he could spare the time.

Of course, the life of a caterer must be rather busy, what with the constant breeding of mus, so she was thrilled that he agreed to pop by. She only hoped that he and her mate would get along fine.

"Oi? Oh. Twil?" Tikki's soft voice snapped the shadow into paying more attention to her surroundings. "Twil? Eat some?" She indicated some of the mushrooms set aside, most were saved for when their guest arrived.

"You and Auze can spli one. The rest need to be saved."

Jester was nervous, as he snapped a small pine twig in his beak, and he really wasn't sure why. Twilla had asked him to find some fresh sprigs of pine to keep around the hovel before. Jester wasn't a gatherer, but when his mate asked of him he delivered. But why did she have such a sense of urgency this time. He knew she had invited an old friend over but why such haste and bustle?

None the less Jester was excited to meet this friend. Having 4 springs of pine in his beak he hastened off back towards the willow to give them to twilla hopefully before the guest arrived.

As he flew he hummed, as the pine sprigs were locked in his beak. Still his mind created words to go with his flying."

'Out to gather pine sprigs, on a lovely sunny day,
Out to gather pine sprigs, to keep bad smells at bay,
Out to gather pine sprigs, pine sprigs pine sprigs..'

With a final push of her Will, Twilla sent the last bits of debris plummeting from the entrance hole to her old willow and her bright blue eyes watched as the bits twirled and tumbled to the forest floor below, near the babbling water of the swift flowing river.

"Whoo... Well, that's done." She said with a sigh of relief. Hopefully Jester would not be too far along now. Her two companions were leisurely noshing on the unfortunate mushroom that they had selected.

"Okay, you two. Make yourselves scarce, alright? Especially you Auze. Don't want to give any reason for Cliffy t'take you home and serve you, eh?" She chuckled as she ushered the two companions out onto the main limb. "Why don't you go and rest in your own hollow up top for now? I'll call you if we need you, okay?"

"Ya-ya, 'kay." Auze agreed with a huff. He took his half of the mushroom and scaled up to the little hovel that he and Tikki shared. The skurri followed silently.

Sniffing the fresh air outside his favorite oak tree, Cliffside smiled and ruffled his feathers. He gave them an invigorating shake and took another deep breath. It was a good day for a visit, and he just happened to have received an invitation.

”Speed, Bee, take care of things while I’m gone,” Cliff said to his favored companions.

The white chirop and striped mus squeaked their obedience, and he left them to collect a gift for Twilla -- two of his tastiest mus. He neatly snapped their necks and took them up in his claws. He knew she wouldn’t misunderstand his intentions if he offered her a meal, so he was going all-out.

He flew to her territory, announcing his arrival with a hoot. He tried not to sound too enthusiastic (that wouldn’t do for his image), but he was truly glad to see the Shadow again.

Jester, long lost in his song, landed with a sputter and a thump on to the main branch of the willow he and Twilla now shared. Shaking his head slightly to clear it of both the song and the thud he glanced around for his dark feathered dear.

He would have hooted his arrival but the sprigs of pine were still tightly clamped in his beak. So instead he tapped his toes in an interesting rhythm and rustled his feathers. Sighing slightly he placed the sprigs between his toes and hooted out to Twilla.

"I have your pine twigs Twilla!" He called out in what he would have called a musical fashion, but most anything else with ears would have called screeching.

His attention was caught by a hoot echoing off a tree, thinking it to be his dark sentinel he picked the sprigs up once again in his beak and opened his wings towards, what he thought was his Twilla.

Twilla responded to Cliffside's hoot with a soft welcoming one of her own as she bustled towards the entrance once more.

"Cliffy? Good to see you again" She welcomed warmly, as she did not fear the up keeping of appearances. Most all know her to be cheery the majority of the time, save for the period of mourning she had been in before meeting Jester.

Her attention quickly turned to the tapping. Jester must of returned... Or it could of been a strange, nocturnal woodpecker insane enough to try and hang on to a tree belonging to a sentinel, but she highly doubted such an oddity.

Cliffside heard Twilla’s welcome, but she still wasn’t in his sights. There was an outburst of odd noise not long after her call. Cliff thought maybe she’d just put some prey out of its misery, and wondered if perhaps he hadn’t needed to bring an offering. Ah, well. She could save it for later. Gripping the pair of dead mus tighter in his talons, he coasted the last few meters to his friend’s willow.

Then, abruptly, he dropped them.

A strange male Sentinel, wings spread wide in a clear display of threat, was waiting for him on the main branch of Twilla’s home!

Cliffside was going too fast to stop. He pulled up as sharply as he could, hoping he would at least make it over the other male without a collision. He knew a mistake like that could prove to be his last.

Jester looked up from his bow to the sound of flapping wings, that he expected to be dark. When a glimmer of gold caught his green eyes he flapped once in alarm. As the gold blur pull up towards the sky just inches from him, the wind from the updraft and Jesters open wings, sent him rolling talons over eartufts backwards.

Luckily the main branch of the willow was wide enough for him to summersault backwards three times before plopping on his belly wings splayed out in every which way.

A very dizzy Jester turned his eyes upwards in search of the gold blur, which he now assumed to be another sentinel, but he couldn't be sure. The pine sprigs still clenched in his beak.

The young shadow sentinel hooted with worry as she shuffled from the entrance of the hovel that now she and Jester shared just in time to see the little mishap. Her eartufts lifted almost fully as she became both alarmed and worried.

"Jester!? Cliffside!? Are you guys okay!?"

The Wildtype keeper barely skimmed over the other male, but he had enough wits to stay in the air once he passed, flying in a circle and coming back to face his opponent with the advantage of altitude. When he saw Twilla come out from her hovel, Cliffside immediately dove and landed on the branch in front of her, facing the stranger.

“Watch out, Twi!” he shouted, spreading his wings to shield her. His feathers were raised, making him seem twice as large, and his pupils were fully dilated as he hissed at the light-colored male. He didn’t know how strong this trespasser was, but he was prepared to protect his shadowy friend if it came to a fight.

The Bard's world was still spinning from his tumble, shaking his head to clear it, his green eyes came to rest on the golden feathers of the new sentinel. Flaping to his feet, twigs still in beak, he puffed up hoping to be intimidating. Worried that this sentinel was not Twilla's friend and was an intruder set on stealing her away.

Wings splayed out showing his green swirls, not exactly the fiercest thing to behold, but his heart was in the right place.

"Filla fet fway from fit! Fo fack finfide!" He tried to warn her, yet still held onto her sprigs of pine.

"Cliff, it's alright! It's alright!" The shadow female moved from the hovel entrance, despite Jester's muffled warning and Cliffside's attempt to protect her from her own mate. She had really hoped her old friend would meet Jester, but not in this manner.

"It's okay! He is supposed to be here! Likewise, Jester!" In a way, the situation almost seemed comical, but it's comedic attributes were almost lost on the female, given the strain of courting and relationship that tended to come with mating season, although it had passed for the most part. Hence almost. Somewhere in her mind she told herself she would probably laugh about it later... Or at least she hoped she would be able to.

When Twilla tried to break up the stare down, Cliffside had trouble shaking it off. He was pumped with fear and fight, and still had no explanation for the stranger with green patterns. If he was supposed to be here, then why hadn’t Twilla warned him ahead of time? Just what was going on?

He stepped aside for the Shadow type when she came forward, but was unable to let his feathers relax. He didn’t know what to make of the stranger and wasn’t about to go trusting blindly.

Until he was certain of Twilla’s safety, he would remain as intimidating as he could make himself.

Jester relaxed a bit as Twilla came closer and the gold male let her pass him. Jester still watched him over Twilla's shoulder. "Fere fis for fwigs." Jester gestured to the springs of pine which were still in his beak.

Wondering what this sentinel truly ment to Twilla, 'why hadn't she told him of me?' he thought to himself slightly. Letting the thought pass, he swallowed the ball of nerves that had accumulated in his throat and lifted the sprigs with his will, allowing his beak to hoot out a greeting to the new male.

If this was Twilla's friend he wanted to make sure he made a better second impression then the first one. But he was still wary, at least slightly.

"Thanks, Jest!" She hooted cheerily in an attempt to lighten up the tension that was obviously building between the two males in her life. She quickly relieved Jester of the Twigs with a soft tug of her own on them, which she shoved into the hovel behind she and her friend, Cliffside.

"I was hoping to introduce you two on a light note, but things rarely ever turn out as planned." She chuckled, but it was easy to see that she was groing a little more nervous now that Cliffside had arrived. She had not maintained contact very well after her mother had died during the winter.
