Most to all of the cd stores near me, have vanished. Only a few still remain, and still yet they struggle. Because the internet makes everything so easy, just one click away in your jammies, what's the point? Why get off your lard butt and go down there to possibly fail to get the CD you want, when all you have to do is sit at home. Not to mention those that illegally download. Well I have downloaded but I miss the hard copy, burning it just doesn't cut it for me. I like the album art and the booklet.
I get a bigger thrill of going to a store and finding the CD that I want, than if I download something off of itunes, MP3fiesta, or even buying a cd from DeepDiscount.
Eventually those stores will go out of business, but I, for one, will miss them.

I agree with you about the thrill and the album art and all that. Denver record stores are going pretty good though. We have a lot of major ones like Twist & Shout and Angelo's. The first time I went to Angelo's, they had this one rapper there. Damn, I forgot his name but he wears a cowboy hat. He had that one guy who used to do the show "Street Fury" on G4 with him too. That was like the first time I saw celebrities in the US.

Not all of mine have gone out of business, there's this little one by my house which I am heading off to go see if they have Carved in Stone's Tales of Glory & Tragedy soon.
But there is a noticeable loss in record stores about.

@ panda - cowboy troy, perhaps, the pioneer of hick-hop?
anyways, there are still some good record shops in maine. well, one, but it's got 14 in state locations and 2 in new hampshire... or something like that. it's called bull moose music, and you can get cds, tapes, and vinyl, and sometimes some pretty rare stuff there. there are also a couple of small record shops that do pretty well about an hour away from me. i like cds, but lately i've really gotten into vinyl - it seems to be making a comeback in my area.

MegaTherion777 @ panda - cowboy troy, perhaps, the pioneer of hick-hop? Naw, I don't think it was him. This one had grills and a lighter skin tone I think.

All the cd stores are gone near me, the only ones left are big corporations who are buying all the lower ones.

Sad to see these stores go, but it seems like their downfall is now inevitable.

The internet isn't so much a matter of convenience for me as it is of price. Why would I pay 15, 16 bucks an album when I can get that same album, brand new, off eBay for 1/2 that price or less? And the availability problem with genres like metal make lesser-known artists or limited editions almost impossible to find in person, or you have to pay out the a** for them to special order it for you.

I have to agree, I rarely go in search of stuff anymore. I was dumbstruck when I found Posionblack for $4.99.

Woah, I didn't know that this dilemma was this bad. I hit up my record stores almost every weekend and they are always packed full of people. neutral

I stopped looking for certain cd's in the stores near me, I just look around and I usually end up finding something I never expected to see, like 65daysofstatic and Korpiklaani.
especially since I'm trying to find two cd's that I thought would be easy: Fear Factory - Remanufacture, Type O Negative - Life Is Killing Me.

You should be able to get Fear Factory at Best Buy.
