Kei stood much more physically comfortable as the sun started to die and the air cooled, his mind was far from completely comfortable. This was the land of his birth, and the land that his cubs were born into. Two different emotions were brought up to the surface, one of blame and one of love. Shame came with both, coloring them like oil on water. He was ashamed for his mother, angry that they left and she as well as his brothers had died of sickness, how could the pridelands do that? A tingle of understand did exist, his mother left, but maybe things would have been different if she had stayed.
Shiri came, and though he had felt betrayed at the time, she stayed as well. Here his cubs were born and he was delighted for their birth and shamed for staying away so long. Time to fix it, to let his distrust and his anger fade before he lost what mattered the most to him, his family. Dakarai didn't like him very much, though they both loved Shiri. There were relationships to mend with his cubs, and a bond to strengthen with his mate.
Normally, when he entered the pride lands he went to her den to see her and the cubs, this time would be different. He was not going to see her, rather, surprise her. Hopefully that was, he had to behave and find the King or whomever could grant him permission to join the pride that had always been an inescapable part of him. Once he was an accepted member, he would go to Shiri's den, and surprise her, finally no longer having to see the look on her face every time he left from a visit.
Walking towards pride rock, he felt that was his best chance of finding someone who had the power to allow him into the pride. It was also away from Shiri's den so she was much less likely to stumble upon him and ruin the surprise. Granted, he'd be delighted to see her, but it wasn't the right moment, he wanted more of the moment then just surprise that he was there.

Simi was stretched out on Pride Rock, letting the sun soak away all the kinks in his muscles. The stress was something that he didn't expect when he took that one step forward to take the job. Keeping track of so many lions was impossible. Only slightly more believable with the help of Mosi and Shomoro. Now, if only everything else in his personal life could go so smoothly.
He rolled over onto his back, letting his red-brown eyes scan the skies. Nothing but clouds today. It was probably for the best, but there were days where he would have loved for a little bit of rain.
His ears caught the sound of someone approaching. He had grown accustomed to these intrusions, and was almost starting to accept them. It was always a good thing to be approachable, and laying out in the open was probably the best way to see that he was free to speak to.
He flopped over onto his belly, letting his paws lift him back up to standing. He offered a nod to the stranger, curiosity overflowing in his heart.
"Hello there, may I help you with anything today?" he asked.

Having been caught, or rather spotted, the dark lion remained still, pausing to look for the source of the greeting. The lion he spotted was brown, with cream and a reddish-brown mane. Having heard stories of Mufasa and the kings of the past, he knew scares little about the current ruler or rulers. Shameful since they were the ones responsible for ensuring the overall care of his family and the pride. Shame was something he was becoming accustomed to, sadly enough.
Bowing his large white maned head a little, he announced his purpose, "I am seeking to find one who can allow me to join this pride. Long ago, before sickness came, my mother was a member and now my mate, Shiri, and cubs are members of the pride. I wish to join them. My name is Kei." He thought of bringing up Shiri's mother, but held back, there was no need to bring another member, even if she was so close to the royals, he would get in on the family he had connections with, not the ones he only heard about.
He meant no harm, though anger still coiled around his heart, with a head still lowered in show that he wasn't a threat, he waited. It would break both his and Shiri's hearts if he were not allowed in the pride, though he dared to hope that would not happen. Though on the case, he was prepared to sulk off and just live as he had, venturing in only when he felt safe for he could not ask Shiri to uproot the cubs, who had friends of their own, and pull them from the pride they had a birth right to remain a part of. She'd be leaving the mother she had found as well, not good for anyone.

Simi rose a brow at the stranger. He seemed odd, like he wasn't completely there. Not in any bad sense, but that there was darkness swirling around in his mind and he hadn't quite released it yet. This was odd, and it would test Simi's knowledge on having to deal with members that were anything but bubbly.
He waited, watching the other carefully. He was at a loss of how to approach this lion, and wanted to do so with grace. Oh, how he wished he had paid more attention to everyone when he was younger, instead of running around exploring everything (and nothing).
"Well, perhaps that can be arrainged. Is there something troubling you to hang your head so low? We are all equal here in the Pridelands, there is no need to hide your face."

Kei debated if he should speak, indeed, he opened his mouth and closed it a few times. To hide anything might shed doubt on him either in the joining or later. He didn't want trouble now or once settled, so he shifted over his options. "My mother left sick, I do not know if she was made or leave, so long I have been bitter towards the pride she called home, for I lost her and my brothers while we wondered. I don't want anyone to think I am a danger to it, I wasn't before and even more so now. My mate is here, my family and her mother is a member of the pride as well."
Slowly, he raised his head back to see how the lion took his story, if he doomed himself before he even got a footing or not. Really, he was ready to let the past go, he could only hope that would show now.

Simi shook his head, but he did do his best to stifle a bit of laughter. This Kei probably didn't know everything that had happened here a while ago. Simi had heard about it, of course, but that didn't mean that everyone did.
He nodded his head, acknowledging what Kei had said. "It's true that there was a sickness. It spread all over the land, not just here. And while it took many of our family that came before us, it seems that perhaps the younger generation, like us, have grown immune to the disease. Do not let yourself worry over something you have no control over." He twitched his ear, letting a smile crack from his mouth. "Especially if that means living apart from your family."
He took a few steps forward before pausing, wondering just how to bring up the subject of himself without it seeming..awkward. "If you're looking for permission, though, I can certainly help you in that area."

He was clearly surprised to hear the sickness was everywhere. If it was in the land, then perhaps his mother left on her own, not thrown out because she was sick, the why may never be known. Surely with everyone ill, she would not be singled out in such a manner. He nodded at the family aspect. It was why he was here, in the pride he had so long blamed. For his family, he was willing to do so much.
Ears perked, he asked, "Can you give me permission to join?" While he didn't know who this lion was, it was all too possible he was a prince or something. Running into someone with power and not knowing it was a feat. Spoke of his ignorance, but also the other lion's unassuming nature. If he was indeed royalty, he was a credit to his birth, not lording over as one might expect.

He nodded, his deep red-brown mane shifting as he did so. "That I can." He paused for another moment before clarifying.
"I wouldn't say it's completely official, but as for now, with my mother and sister missing, I'm stepping in as the King." He swished his tail, keeping his head at a comfortable position. "My name is Simi, and it's a pleasure to meet you, Kei. A strong heart, one so focused on his family, is always welcome here in the Pridelands. From now on, feel free to call this place your home." Another grin grew over his maw. "It sounds like you certainly deserve it."
"Is there anything else I can help you with today, Kei?" He wanted to make sure that there wasn't anything else pressing. You never knew what someone may want to ask without even thinking about asking. He himself had felt that way many times when growing up, and he was kicking himself now for never asking. Everything from the point of taking leadership on, he had to guess at. He could only hope that he was continuing the legacy of his grandfather and mother.

Kei was relieved to hear that he had found the lion to allow him to join, and on his first real try! The relief it brought was checked by the news that the Queen and Princess missing. Frowning in concern, he said, "I am sorry to hear that they are missing." It didn't seem like King Simi was too upset by it, so maybe their vanishing was more of a vacation or something less sinister then it sounded. This was his new home, or home again, he wanted to know if there was trouble in it so he could be prepared to defend it.
Reacting again to being allowed to stay, he replies, "Thank you King Simi, if you see a gorgeous green eyed lioness, tan with dark brown stripes looking for you, its probably my mate coming to thank you as well." There was a smile on his face, just imaging her reaction when she found out he was home to stay.
Since the question was asked, he answered, "What can I do to help the pride, I am a fighter, I would like to give back to the pride by helping to keep it safe." He wanted to be useful to his new home.

"They will be found and brought home soon," he said quietly. He had passed the time of being upset, as the pride needed a strong head to look to, and he had learned to keep his emotions in check while he was still so young. He'd get used to it soon enough.
"For now, just keep your eye on the borders, and mention anything to a scout that seems odd. Otherwise, a bright smile and a helpful friend is what we need now. Thank you for your offer, Kei." He nodded, a softer smile now on his face. It was good to welcome someone to their home, and something he looked forward to more in the future.

Kei was sure of that, who would abandon a Queen and Princess? Maybe a normal lioness...no he had to stop thinking like that. As his tail swept behind him, he swept the thoughts away. The royals would come home because a pride does not turn on its members, so what happened in the past cannot be what it seemed to the then young cub.
Giving a grateful smile, he replied, "I thank you again, and I will keep an eye to the borders. I shall go and rejoin my family, to stay now. Good day to you, your majesty." With a parting nod, and a smile, the black furred lion turned and moved deeper into the pridelands, moving towards a place he knew by heart, his new home. A grin appeared as he thought of surprising Shiri, smiling at the idea that he'd never have to break her heart by leaving again.
Part of him feared his young middle son; Dakarai had not been happy to leave with him and genuinely didn't seem to like him much. To make the cub miserable by his presents would undoubtedly distress his mother. Pushing back the dark thoughts, he held the hope that then everything would be fine, that he'd mend what there was to mend in order to have a strong and happy family.
