Callista ran through the woods, trying to get away from Serena before she got another set of "flying lessons." She stopped under some thorn bushes, hoping Serena would speed on by. "Please, please, please let her go on by..."

Valzar had been silently practicing his latest group of spells (trying to catch up with the time he'd lost since his father had started locking up his books at night) when he'd heard the disturbance behind him. He turned slowly, eying the thorn bush suspiciously, "Synne, aren't you a little old for hide and seek?"

Callista jumped. Oh no...someone else is here...She started shaking and emitted a small squeek. "W-who's S-synne?"

Valzar froze and frowned, the voice was unfamiliar. "...Not you..." He knelt down and peeked into the thorn bush, "What are you doing here?"

Callista hid her face when Valzar peeked in. She separated her hooves to peek through. "Are you going to give me to Serena?"

Callista blinked. "If you don't know Serena, then I guess you won't give me to her." She crawled out of the bush and smiled. "I'm Callista." She heard a twig snap suddenly and she flew behind Valzar.

Valzar turned slowly observing the area, but nothing seemed out of place. "Is this...Selena chasing you?" he asked quietly unsure if he should get involved in the affairs of females.

Callista peeked around from behind Valzar's leg. "Yes. She is. She's my sister, and she keeps on trying to give me flying lessons." She moved out from behind him and sat down. "What are you doing way out here?" She looked down at Valzar's leg and noticed the thorns wrapped around it. "That looks painful."

Valzar blinked and glanced down at his own leg, "I...don't notice it. It's been there as long as I can remember." He glanced at the baby curiously, "Why did you come out here? These forests are dangerous..."

Callista smiled. "The forest isn't dangerous. I come here a lot. I like to play with the wolves and hear the forest breath." She looked down, slightly embarrassed. "Tonight I came her to hide though. I was hoping it would protect me. And it did!" Her cheery smile was back and she was looking up at Valzar sweetly.

"Why are you hiding?" Valzar asked in confusion. The females didn't hide...they weren't scared of anything....at least, none of the females he knew were.

"Because my sister Serena is going to pull me up into the air and drop me on the ground. She calls it Flying Lessons, but as you can see I don't have any wings, so it's just her excuse to be mean and play a nasty trick on me." She shuddered as she remembered hitting the ground all those times. "It hurts a lot, and even though I heal almost instantly, I still bruise for about three minutes." She held her shoulder absent-mindedly. There was no bruise there, no wound. Just a memory of one.

"Why do you not strike back?" Valzar asked tilting his head.

Callista frowned. "Because she'll never learn about kindness and compassion if I'm mean to her in return. I've already made some progress. She doesn't play some of the real mean tricks anymore. And I don't get flying lessons nearly as often as I once did." She smiled bravely. "Someone has to break the cycle."
