This RP is for Lady Evelyn Nyht's Ever Sacrifice and Malhyanth's Tawali.

They are near the mountain gap next to the river in the forest.

The red chestnut mare stuck her nose into each basket, checking on the small little ones that were nestled safely in the weave of their pseudo wombs. She was still very nervous about their small movements compared to her other children. It may have had something to do with how early they were born, but she felt partially to blame and ill at ease.
Her icy blue eyes glanced up to gaze at the sky. She had been hoping, praying, that her mate would return home soon. Ever's heart had sent out a silent plead to the winds in hopes that he would hear or sense it and make all haste to return home.
But as the days passed, she fretted even more. She carefully nudged the lids back into place. They were all sleeping now, which was the most frequent act they did all day. She poked her head out from the curtain of the weeping willow and stared back up at the sky again. Waiting.

The winds had carried him far from home, feathers growing stronger and stronger with each flap of his tremendous wings. The red tips brushed clouds and as he burst through the thick cushion of water droplets, he whickered loudly and came to a shuddering hault, hovering carefully as he looked at the magnificant view around him. Below, clouds made a landscape all their own, looking solid enough to walk across. Further in the distance, rolling white hills, and then...
Ever.
He smiled at the colour of bleached sky that expanded above him, swallowing him in eyes of the same colour. His heart tugged at him, told him that there were things he had to do, a place he should be. Feathers tingled to find their wing-mates, and the Wind smiled softly. He wondered idly if he'd remember how to talk, so long spent circling the world from a great height, chasing clouds and storms, just to experience their force. He had been meaning to return, and as his altitude descended, through the fog of tiny droplets that stuck to his flanks and jewelled his mane and tail, balancing like a tiny crystal dome on solid feather, his eyes spied the dark rise of the mountains that cut off the Soquili lands from the barren wastes of the desert beyond. The desert he had crossed once, just to find his heart had been here all along. His sky eyes.
Newadi Dekata.
He smiled and with a powerful surge of his wings, he followed the winds, carrying him at lightning speed toward his heart and his feathers. He knew exactly where she was, he could feel it like a compass in his mind, the needle fixed on only one, lesser needles focusing on two others, so precious in his heart, yet seen less and less in his wanderings. He felt he was missing something, that he needed to find something that was pressuring his mind, directing him to a greater path. It was still a buzz in the back of his mind, that there was something greater he had to achieve to realise the true happiness he felt in his heart. Something he knew may tie him to the ground forever, but that it would be a cost he would pay dearly, just to feel the swell of happiness around his whole family rather then just in his heart.
Feathered wings open to catch the southern wind, Tawali watched that giant peak that reached up into the clouds grow bigger and clearer through the haze. His heart took a twisting dive, and his body followed suit, a perilous dive filling him with ecstasy as he darted between imaginary foe and pffted between branches, hardly making a disturbance to the leaves as he pulled up sharply. The river was directly beneath him, and the few leaves he had knocked off drifted lazily to the ground, and he followed them. Landing carefully, his legs shook for a moment, adrenaline still pumping through his crazed body as his bright, cyan-green eyes gazed around. He started a quick, mile-eating trot upstream, following the path of the river to a tee. As he walked, the great mountain that signalled him heart's home grew ever stronger, but it wasn't the mountain pass he sought. He knew she wasn't there. Opening his wings and hopping over the quick waters, his feet struck familiar ground and he quickened his pace, a massive flowing structure coming into sight, one that tugged his heartstrings doubly.
He slowed to a stop and looked up at that great expanse of flowing, tumbling branches, the cascade of thin green leaves pleasing to his eye. The tree he had met Ever, the tree he had brought his family to, the tree where Vidia and 'Suli had played. A tree that would always hold special in his heart, for his feathers resided within a deep crack, a beacon of home. He felt safe with the two-leg, but here, he felt peace. Taking a few more steps, he heard rustling, and a beautiful, poised head poked from between the cascading boughs, sky eyes glancing skywards.
'To me.' He thought silently, and he smiled fondly at the mare that shone so beautifully in his heart, in his mind, in his sight. A soft rumble from his chest, and his own cyan-green eyes shone when he started to walk carefully toward his mate's face.
"Ah'm home." He said quietly, in greeting to his mate, and to himself, a vouch for himself that this really was where he belonged.

Her ears twisted back when she heard his voice before her entire body turned in the direction it had come. She was hidden from sight, as well as the three bundles at the base of the tree, so took the time to compose herself. She had thought that she would calmly walk out through the leafy curtain, but once her eyes caught sight of him, she was dashing full kilt to be with him as quickly as her legs would take her.
She slowed down just a few feet from him, but the momentum carried her to his side where she hid her face against his red mane. She buried her nose against his fur, taking a deep breath of just him, and felt her strength finally leave her. Large tears trickled down her face out of joy and sadness. It was too much for her emotions to handle.
She ran her muzzle down his neck and rested her head against the swell of his back, careful of his wings. It was so good to see him, but how she wished he had been there sooner. She didn't blame him, not in the least. She knew she only had herself to blame for what had happened and all she could do was be the beacon for their children, though it hurt to keep her nose out of it.
She let out a chocked whisper, "Thank the heavens." It was the only sign to show she was in fact crying, until he stepped back to see the moisture on her face.

Tawali physically relaxed as his mate came to him and buried her face into his mane, nuzzling him. He returned the gesture, tucking his own head over her shoulders and neck, tugging her close and breathing her scent in deep. How he had missed his scent, this strongly wild, yet strangely tame scent on Ever Sacrifice; his sacrifice, forever. He didn't notice it to begin with, the soft tremble of her body and her hitching breath, wrapped up as he was in their greeting until her tearful voice muffled out of his mane. He frowned red brows, and drew away to look at his beauty, his newadi dekata. Her saddened eyes had his own shining with worry as he looked at her broken spirit through those pure portals. His ears lowered, and he circled her quickly, discerning if she was in pain, hurt or broken. She seemed in perfect health, if anything she seemed positively glowing, a picture of beauty. The thought crossed his mind that he was wasting his life flying around hunting for something he'd already found. He pushed it back and returned to his place in front of her.
"Wha's 'appen'd Ever? Why cry, agigau? Ah've return'd, an' Ah know Ah was gone too lon', bu'h Ah jus' go'h swep' off course!" His eyes softened as he looked at her and he pressed his face against her's, a symbol of his need to be close to her. He looked truely sheepish for his long flight. Everytime he saw the sky, he wanted to be lost in the sky that was her eyes, but everytime, the wind had sent him off somewhere else, showing him something new. He had seen wonderous things, but they all paled into insignificance as he stood before this beauty. His beauty, his uwodu. That thought perked his interest, and he looked around, swinging his head from Ever to look aroun.
"Where're me girls then? They's mus' be close? Ah can smell 'em 'ere!" Taking a quick trot from Ever, he pushed his way through the cascading curtain of thin green strips. His eyes first focused on the four feathers in the lower branch, two his own, two his daughters, and he smiled sweetly. As he glanced around, he froze solid. At the base of the tree that sat three baskets, of a very familiar air. Breaking the ice that filled his limbs, Tawali took one, then another step toward the tiny baskets, sniffing at them, nudging one, the brown basket, with his nose. Nothing stirred within, so he wondered whether there was anything within their confines. Backing up a little, he raised a red brow.
"Ever?"

She had started to speak when he dashed away right into where the three newborns were sleeping safely in their baskets. She slowly walked towards him, almost dragging her hooves as if she'd done something wrong.
She stopped in her tracks and flicked her ears back in regret and worry at the sound of her name. It seemed to mirror her own worry, but that wasn't the half of it. Didn't even touch below the surface.
She finally gained enough courage to walk inside the leafy confines. Carefully she laid down beside the baskets and nudged the lid of the pinkish one off. "They came too early. I--I wasn't ready for them." She let him look inside to see how much smaller they were compared to their first two children before covering it again. "They're-they're so small," she said in a very soft voice that was still strained with sorrow. "And Vid-vid-vid-Vidia's gone."
Another wave of tears hit her at the mention of their youngest daughter and she tucked her face as much as she could against her body. She wanted to hide away from her shame, be swallowed up by the very earth and not face such an accusation her mind dealt.

Tawali's eyes were fixed on the tiny body within the too big basket. So small, so fragile. He gently touched the youngster within with his velvety muzzle to sniff at it, ascertain there was life within that tiny body. His eyes narrowed in a worried frown as he helped nudge the top back over the tiny foal, relaxing his face as he looked worriedly at Ever. Was she really blaming herself for this? He touched her face with his muzzle as gently as he had touched the foal, and smiled into her mane's fringe. A lone tear rolled down his face to stick to her mane in a sparkling jewel, so like those water drops from the clouds, but so very very different. He nudged it away, and sighed softly, settling himeself down into a laying position on the other side of the baskets, spreading a caring wing over them, as if the fragile barrier of feathers would protect the precious bundles better then any two-leg basket creation.
"Don' cry agigau! They's no'h so small! They's stron'er then's ye know, secre'hly, in them's tiny bodies!" He locked his cyan-green eyes with her sky blues, and smiled softly at her. His eyes furrowed a moment at her words that Vidia had gone. The brows low, he tried to discern why his little girl would have run off in such a time of need. His 'dodai usti-ageyutsa', his offspring counterpart. Vidia had always seemed to him such a happy foal, and sure she was shy of others; outside of the family, but who wasn't nervous of the wide world? He sighed again and shook his head.
"Shoul' Ah go fin' 'er? Woul' i'h ma'h any dif'rence if'n Ah did? Or is this'n one'a them times when ye jus' go'h'a leave 'em to seek their own paths, an' jus' be tha'h strong beacon?" As he spoke, he looked within his heart, and found that there was a stronger tug to one of the lesser needles in him. She must be wearing his feathers. Perhaps that was her plan; for him to find her? He was totally unsure, but whatever it was that tugged on him, he felt he should investigate it the next chance he got, when Ever was placated that these little bundles of joy were stronger. Changing the subject in his mind, his eyes lit up and he looked at Ever with great love.
"So... Three eh? Ye mus'a been huge!!" He winked coyly at his mate and reached over the baskets and stretched out wing to plant a horse 'kiss' to her muzzle.

She merely shook her head slowly, as if to dispel the thoughts that threatened to tumble from her maw. She was so afraid that they would be teased, bullied, for being smaller than the rest of those foals they would grow up around. And what if there were development flaws, their wings not strong enough to ever get them off ground, or their legs too weak to even carry them. She tried her best to let the words of her mate soothe the worries that plagued her, but only time would be the absolute truth.
She cringed when he mentioned looking for her and what may have caused their daughter to leave. She wasn't even sure of what Vidia was thinking, but knew what she had said. She quickly related the story to Tawali about how she had told their youngest daughter she was pregnant and Vidia going off about disgraced Soquili that wouldn't fit in the world because of their mixed line.
Ever shook her head again and a few more tears rolled down to darken the fur. She didn't know what was causing their family to crumble.
And then his question caught her off guard. She stared at him with wide blue eyes for a few seconds before a peel of laughter escaped. Tears still slide down her face, giving a mixed sound of joy and sorrow in her nickering laughter. "I was about the size when our two children were almost ready to be placed in their baskets before the early birth of these threes," she said carefully when the mirth subsided. She reached a darken muzzle out to them and touched the weave of each of them.

Tawali thought for a moment, silent for a moment, still. The story of Vidia's leaving worried him, as her words sounded much like those of one Wind that he had hoped not to deal with again. He would have to talk to 'Suli, find out from her what was going on with the sisters. His brows were furrowed low over his thoughtful eyes and he slowly shook his head in distaste, teeth clenched slightly. Sighing, he smiled at him mate.
"Ah'll fin' 'er Ever. Ah promise ye, Ah'll fin' 'er an' bring 'er 'ome to apologise to ye an' to these young'uns. She's go'h some explainin' t'do. Tha's for sure. Ah'll talk to 'Suli too, as she's sure to know somethin'." Tawali sighed again and looked through the curtain of green, out to the river slowly swelling past. "'E's gone to far now... Ah can' protect 'em while Ah'm away. Ah have to stay, to protect ye, and to protect these 'ere new foals, and 'Suli an' Vid'a too!" He was near startled out of his skin at her peal of laughter, and his eyes went wide looking at her, before chuckling along side her. His eyes went thoughtful very quickly.
"As big as when ye's was wi'h Vid'a an' 'Suli? Ever... This mus' mean som'thin'! Mayhap ye're body wasn' able to cope wi'h so much foal in ye's at one time, and so, to save the foals, bore 'em early! Ever, this migh' all be the Wil' God's plan to save all o' ye's lives!"

She swung her head to look at him, completely perplexed at his proposed offer to actually be closer, home more often. How long had she been hoping he'd stick around longer, make his visits more frequent? She was accepting of his need to fly, see new things, feel the wind through his feathers like how she felt the wind through her mane.
The last thing she wanted was to get her hopes up, so instead focused on the latter part of his conversation. She hadn't honestly thought about the birthing in that sense. She'd remembered hearing muttered words around the Soquili lands that high stress levels weren't good when one was pregnant and she'd been worrying herself sick. "You might be right," she said at last and felt a great weight lift her shoulders.
What was the possible chance that she could have died along with the children if she'd waited full term? What complications would she have faced with her first time giving birth to three foals? It was indeed a disguised grace by the gods.
But back to his words from earlier. She tossed her mane casually to the other side, a piece of her forelock stuck behind one of her ears. "What do you mean stay?" She needed it laid out plainly before she left her fluttering heart run away with her.

Tawali smiled at her and nodded his head vigourously to his explanation for it. He could see no wrong in what had happened, especially if it meant everyone was healthy. Sure the foals were small and moved very little, but if they were premature, then they were still developing, and needed the sleep to do what they did best; grow. He nuzzled her muzzle, eyes sparkling. He knew that she saw sense from what he said, her shoulders relaxing a little. He relaxed too, and nudged the reddish basket gently, feeling a small body resting within, alive and well, despite being small.
He lifted a wing to her next question, smile tugging at his lips as he thought about what 'staying' would mean. Naturally he'd be unable to give up the sky permenantly, but he planned to stay within the lands more, to stay where his heart demanded. But he knew he needed to do something more, to offer their safety to more then just his mate and the current foals growing steadily stronger with each minute that passed within their small baskets. He needed something that he had been denied, he needed a group that understood what he understood; a love that transversed breed, a need to share his past life, without the hate-filled rivalry he had put up with all through his colt-hood.
"Ah mean stay Ever. Ah mean stop these 'ere long fligh's away, to where Ah can' feel ye anymore. Ah mean stay and pass on me learnin', show others my ol' life. Ever, wha' woul' ye say to a 'erd star'in' up 'ere? A place where we can pre'tect and be pre'tected. Share our way'a life wi'h others, le'h 'em un'erstan' tha' Winged an' Grounded Soquili can love each other, wi'hout the prejedice o' those tha' thin' i'h wrong!" He looked at her, hope gleaming in his eyes. It was a relief to get that off of his chest, to finally say what had been bothering him for so long. He felt bad that his foals had not grown up in a big herd environment like he had. He missed the mischievious scheming of the foal-hood he had, and he wanted his foals to have that. He smiled encouragingly at Ever, to express her own thoughts.

She remained silent in thought, weighing the pros and cons. On one hoof, he'd be there for their children and she'd have her support whenever she needed him. On the other hoof, he'd still be gone to the sky on patrol, but he'd always return like he had in the past. Overall, she didn't find anything wrong with the proposal. Not only would she have her mate, but soon she'd have an entire herd that would be there for each other.
True, this herd idea sounded more like a support group, but with time, it would be what most Soquili would need. It was probably exactly what their offspring needed. And it didn't hurt that she wanted to have Tawali around more than lately.
"I think it's a wonderful idea. What little I remember of my old herd, it was a village effort to help raise offspring." Ever stretched her neck out to nuzzle against his cheek. "And I like the idea of you being closer to home more than anything else."

Tawali smiled at his mate, cyan-green eyes soft as he nuzzled his muzzle against her. His eyes fell on the baskets between them, their next venture into the realm on life and love as it stood right now. He was pleased with this outcome to his idea. A support group and a herd. A place where he would feel like he was wanted and needed, and where his family could grow properly. He sighed softly and nuzzled his face against Ever's. This was the start of something amazing. It was the start of them sharing their love, their acceptance, and giving it to others in a way of protecting them, keeping others safe in the way they had always tired to do in the past. It wasn't going to be a big change for them, but now there was a name to what they were doing.
"This'll work ou'h Ever. We'll 'ave a be'her chance o' keepin' an eye ou'h for Vid'a, an' 'Suli will 'elp, Ah know she will! It'll bring us closer, ye wai'h an' see!"
