A while ago, I saw this TV news report on a Muay Thai boxer from Thailand whose name was Parinya Charoenphol. Nothing looked any different from him, as I watched the news bit on him, while it showed clips of him winning numerous muay thai matches, then it said something about him: "This man isn't competing for fame or riches, he's competing to become a woman."

Parinya Charoenphol, or "Nong Toom", as she now is so affectionately known as, has competed in several muay thai matches for the prize money that eventually went to pay for a sex change operation. I thought this was very intriguing and as the TV report went on, it continued to interview her. She's both a wonderful person and hardcore in the ring. I don't know where I could find footage of her victories, but they are impressive. She's lived an incredible life and has gone through so many hardships, so there's no wonder why there's not a movie made based on her life.

Click Here for information on the upcoming movie, which is so appropriately named "Beautiful Boxer", set for a release date January 21st, 2005. I'm not sure about you guys, but I personally can't wait.

I remember seeing a documentary on her. Him. Whichever, but yea, I think it would be a movie I would want to see, most definitely.

Well, I wasn't aware of it, but the movie came out in asia in 2003, so I got a chance to wach it, as my freind had bought a dvd of it from hong kong. It's a wonderful movie, although a bit hollywood-ized; the theme is still apparent. Especially fron the line "It's hard being a man; It's difficult being a woman, but the hardest thing is remembering who you really want to be." I love this movie. Go see it if you have the chance.

Really? Great movie, with mind boggling stunts. ALthough its a little too stunt driven.

Its about a thai warrior from a small village who's ong bak (buddha statue) 's head was stolen, and he has to go through bangkok to get it, and the boss of the dude who stole it hangs out at a bar place with a NHB street fight betty thingy going on in there the whole time. So the main character (ting) gets caught up in that stuff by accident. Great movie. Its in Thai, though.

We're at a serious lack of good martial arts movies/documentaries currently. I want to take a look into the ones suggested here however, but in general, there needs to be more!

Sounds good. I'll definately check it out if I ever get an opportunity.

EDIT: Saw the ad for that movie on tv today. Looks pretty wicked.
