 She didn't often wander far from 'home' anymore. Home was where her heart was, along with her children and her mate, but her spirit still had a trace of wildness that would never go away; born from a night of passion between her parents.
That wildness found her wandering now, following the river until it split. She then followed the fork that lead to the end of the forest, opening into the plains. How long had it been since she'd felt the wild wind whipping through her mane?

Well, that and she was feeling like a bad Grandmother for not seeking them out sooner, but couldn't have they also done the same with her? Well, she shook her mane as she walked, no use dwelling on that or she would become grouchy.
Ardia soon found herself out in the open, rolling plains stretching before her, edged in the far distance in darker green of trees. The wind made the grass ripple like waves on water, and she strolled out, letting the sun warm her back as she meandered along. This was something else she'd forgotten about, how nice it was during the summer. It seemed she had been so cut away from everything that she had lost track of the seasons change.

Tossing her head she broke into a gallop as she emerged from the woods, racing across the plains as she hadn't since she was much younger than she was now. Two sets of foals grown to adulthood... That was how long it had been since she'd raced with the wind.
So beautiful, it was, being one with the world again. She would have to bring Nuka with her next time... Or maybe one of her sons or daughters. Maybe one day she'd run into her mother again...
Those thoughts slowed her racing, bringing her movement to a halt at the top of a hill overlooking the plains. The wind lifted her mane and tail like a blue and white banner, flickering it in its grasp before letting it go. Somewhere out there she had family... More family than those she had grown up alongside. Somewhere...

Ardia continued to wander along, just taking in the prettiness of the day and her surroundings. She shut her eyes for a moment, inhaling the scents on the air, the breeze tugging at her mane, before she opened them again, casting her eyes all around her.
The mare carried on moving, and then started trotting, moving faster and faster, until she was flat out running. She'd not done this for a long time, feeling the ground under her thudding hooves, both tail and mane streaming out behind her.
She started to climb a hill, puffing a little as she slowed again, and when she had climbed to the top she stopped, suddenly seeing the mare that was already stood on there.
'Oh, hello there.' she said, giving a smile.

She had stood her ground firmly when her ears caught the sound of hooves thundering in her direction, ready for whatever came... She had expecting something more, perhaps, than the soft smile that had greeted her, bringing a smile of her own to her muzzle. "G'd'afta'noon."
Her words sounded strange even to her own ears, having spent a bit too much time in silence for the day. She couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head slowly. "Don't suppose y'understood a lick of that... Ah know Ah didn't. Might as well try again." Her smile was still light, eyes filled with youth and amusement. "Hello."

There was no hint of recognition for Ardia; after all this was her grand-daughter (though that was unknown to her), and the mares colouring was misleading.
'I don't know,' she replied, her ears still flickering after the younger mare had finished talking.
'I got something, the 'noon' bit mostly. Hello to you to as well.'
Ardia glanced around swiftly, her nose gently twitching as she scented the air, striving to see if there were any others around that might have accompanied this young lady.
'I hope I am not disturbing you? I didn't catch any sign of your being around until just now.'

"No, you're not disturbin' me any. Ah just came out here to run and paused for the view. Feels good t'be away from everything for a bit." She nodded slowly. "Thought there might be a chance I'd run into my mama too. Been a while since I've seen her or my brothers."

'I have been too on my own lately so I am glad that my company isn't unwanted.' Ardia gave a soft smile, her body language showing that she was open and at ease around the younger mare.
'You have a large family then? I'm the same, I've not seen as much of my children as I would like, but I'm hoping to change that over the days to come. I decided to find them, rather than wait for them to come to me.' she gave an apologetic cough.
'Where are my manners? My name is Ardia.'

"Ah do." She nodded once more, her smile soft as she paused to think on her family. "Two brothers by my Mama and another two brothers and a sister by my Pah. Ah've also had five of my own an' mah oldest girl's had two now." She shook her head. "Y'pause to think about it all and you wind up feelin' worlds older than y'really are... And you wonder where that time when you were young enough t'still hide between your Mama's legs went."
Something about the mare's name tugged at the back of her mind as being familiar... But she couldn't quite reach what it was. Shaking it off she let her smile brighten as she glanced up. "Atsila. Pah kept tellin' me it meant 'wild fire' like Ah was some sort o' trouble when Ah was little. Ah told him Ah was just like Momma."

Ardia nodded, agreeing with a touch of amusement;
'And this comes from a mare years younger than me! But I know what you mean, I know my children have children, but beyond that..I could be a great-great grandmother now for all I know, and it makes me feel terribly old. But also proud if it is the case.'
She smiled back;
'That's a lovely name.' she nodded again.
'My daughters have given my joy and headaches, when they were younger more so though. Who is your mother dear? I may know her.'

"Ah've never met anyone who's known my Momma. Pah said she had a wild spirit an' that's what drew th'two of them t'gether." She nodded slowly, closing her eyes for a moment as she tilted her head up. "Said she was hard t'find in the same place twice... 'Course, it would be nice t'know that someone else knew her. Kitara's her name."

Ardia gaped, her mouth dropping open for a while..could it really be? After all, there might be another Kitara out there. But Ardia could see it now, she could see her daughter in this one standing before her.
'She has a wild spirit, so much so that I haven't seen her since she was old enough to see the world herself. Kitara is my daughter.' the older mare said, shaken at running into what was obviously her grand-daughter without even realising it.
'I am so very happy to have met you!'

It was her turn to stand back now, looking over the elder mare as her words sank in. Kitara, her mother, was this mare's daughter? Yes, she could see it... Moreso than the mare standing before her would be able to see her resemblance to her mother, no doubt. They had nearly the same coat color... And that one white sock, just like her brother.
"You... Look a lot like her... Ah mean, she looks a lot like you."

Ardia smiled even warmer now, her eyes crinkling up as she beamed at her grand-daughter.
'My grand-daughter..Atsila. And she has some of me, some of her father. I miss my daughter, but now I feel like I've found a piece of her. I am glad we are family.' she paused, a faint twinkle in her eyes.
'Tell me, are you mated? Do I have, dare I ask, great grandchildren?'
If in fact she was a grandmother twice over, she would have to insist on meeting them, or being pointed in the right direction as to where she might find them!

It was strange, finding family like this. Even though she had known that it was out there; had heard stories from her mother, it was still strange. It did make her smile though, especially when she was asked questions about her children... And Nuka.
"Ah am... He's a good stallion. Stubborn, but good... An' we've got two daughters an' three sons. On top o' that mah oldest daughter's got two girls of her own." She shook her head slowly. "Seems crazy jus' talkin' about it so simply. They all run about and do their own thing... Mah brother comes back every now and then too. His name's Sedi... The other one's named Beau."
