Leaving home from work (I work at a grocery store) with my dad (he picks me up) and we flick on the radio. RaceLine Radio Canada is on, and he starts talking about the biggest open rally in the world: Targa Newfoundland. Targa runs across the province on public roads, and anything and everything can happen. Targa is also a historic rally, which means you can run classic cars in their own division or against the new hot heavyweight AWD machines. Just as he starts interviewing a guy about the late model division.... My dad drives by the Shell service station on the way out of town. There, fueling up at the Full Service pumps, are 2... TEAM SUBARU CANADA TRUCKS! I was like "Dad, we're so stopping!" So we did. On the trailers behind the trucks were all shined up rally cars: a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi driven by the Paynters, and a brand new, 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi in full race trim! No one has EVER seen the car race, it's so new. The Targa number 926 was already on the machine (the 2005 Impreza ran in Canada's rally series with the number 1 on the side, that labelling was removed, you could see the outline where it originally rested) and I swear, if that was car to own, I would want it in a heartbeat. The only problem: I didn't have a camera! Me and my dad talked with the guy for 10 minutes, he was still waiting for the other drivers to hurry up with grabbing snacks (explains the guys in blue jackets at Sobeys who were talking about running back to the haulers).
I'll never wash these eyes again, that '06 WRX looked like a BEAST.
Here's the website to see the car:
http://www.targanewfoundland.com/targa_entries.htmScroll down to entry number 926, that's the 06. The driver's of the '04 are breaking it in at Targa, the drivers of the new car drove the '04 machine last year. The 2004 Subaru's number is 901.
