Edward and Rosalie always claim they don't want Bell to be a vampire. The way I see it is the only thing bad about is the appetite. And as Bella stated it's more in return. What's so bad about living forever?
So what are your views on this?

Well for one, Rosalie wanted a child. And, whatdoyaknow, vamps can't have kids.
Tough break for her.

I think living forever would get boring, personally.

Well, Eclipse pretty much explains Rosalie's whole reason why she wants Bella to stay a human. Y'know with her whole backstory and everything.

Edward, on the other hand, thinks that vampires have no souls and since he cares so much for Bella, he doesn't want her to become a hell-doomed souless creature like himself.

Basically, the whole ordeal comes down to their paradigms versus Bella's and the reader's.

Personally, living forever would be a bit painful when you realize you've outlived your old family and friends and the only people you'll only have are the other vampires.

Edward doesn't want to "kill" Bella. He knows what she'll become, and doesn't want that for her.

And...who cares about Rosalie? wink JK. But really, should her opinion matter?

It's not the living forever, it's the things she will lose that are tied to mortality.

I think they're all idiots, actually xD But I can't say I wouldn't do anything to live forever with Edward whee

Aside from the previously stated "hell-doomed and soulless" reason, there is also the fact that Bella may not live through the transformation. I don't think Edward could live with Bella's attempt to join him ending in her death. The simple idea of her trying and dying probably makes Edward crap himself. Just my personal opinion on that last one. burning_eyes

You don't seem to get the whole "you will never die" thing. You get to see the rise and fall of the human race and watch as the world slowly falls into chaos and be there when the sun begins to enlarge and burn up. Yeah, that's what everyone dreams about.

Uh..I think it would suck pretty bad to live forever...
Not to mention you'd have to keep on moving around since you don't age, and imagine having to repeat high school over and over again.

In addition to the reasons already given, if you have read the first chapter of Midnight Sun Edward, before meeting Bella, is extreamly world weary, even with the rest of his family with them. He would not want Bella to ever feel that way, and living forever, she probably will at some point or other. Also, there are many minor more selfish reasons that he probably only fully admits to himself, like missing her being clumsy and trully needing him and her smell. There is also the Volturi to worry about now, who will almost certainly try to recruite her as she is resistant to some powers. Finally, he knows that even if vampires do have soles, the fact that Bella is a vampire will make her less innocent. Once a vampire she will have thoughts of killing people to take their blood, even if she doesn't do it. Thoughts that as a human she never would have had.

I think that's a really good point--> That Edward is maybe a little selfish sometimes too. He wants Bella the way she is. It's like he said in Twilight, I believe... something to the effect of: "Would you know what I meant if I said I was only human?"
