I just returned to my studio after a year long absence. I took a dance class at school both semesters, but we didn't do much. My teacher was more concerned with brigade, so we spent most of the year watching movies or taking notes.
I'd been out for illness and when I got back yesterday, my limbs were jelly and shaking and today my legs are sore.
I was in pain, but it felt great, as weird as that sounds. I nearly cried, I was so happy to be back. I don't know how long it will take for me to gain my strength back, so that's why I'm asking. What's the longest amount of time you were not taking dance and how long did it take you to get back in the flow of things? I'm eager to hear others stories, so please share!

I know how u feel.............. my family moved so it took a whole year before we could find a ballet school!!!! On my first day back my teacher had us stretch every muscle and limb. It hurt at first but after awhile, it got better and now I'm super flexible again. It felt great 2b doing ballet again!!!

Well, I went about 14 years without dance. Didn't know what I was missing! But since I started... about a month and a bit. XD Just for summer. In August there's a week-long dance camp that's just sort of an intensive where you learn a bunch of random choreography that pushes your limits and stuff. So fun. =]

I was out for 6 weeks once due to a broken foot and it was very stressful because the performance would be about 2 weeks after when I got the cast off, but I worked really hard literally every minute because my ankle was so weak that I couldn't stand on releve without falling. But I ended up being fine in the performance, so if you work really hard it can take about 2 weeks.

long story short, i stopped dancing for 3 years straight because of a serious injury, and extremely low self-esteem.
i really regret that choice.
even though it held me back, i think it did help me. it gave me time to grow up and mature enough to take things that i like more seriously.

I haven't been away for more than about 2 weeks ever before. I don't go on very long vacations.

To date i haven't been dancing seriously for 4 years now. Its only now that i'm starting to really lose my strength and flexibility. I hope to go back soon. Needless to say i will be doing lots of pilates and yoga to get back on shape for my dancing return!

I started dancing pretty late in life, and apart from Summer breaks never really took time off except for last year when I got shin splints and was ordered to not dance for about 2 months. It was torturous because I so badly wanted to dance! But once I started again, I worked pretty hard so it didn't take me too long to get back into things.
