Via Wikipedia's definition, an original character, or OC, is a character created by a fanfic author or roleplayer for an established canon storyline. This Creating An Original Character Tutorial, by Maisha Foster-O'Neal, is great at explaining what an original character is and how to make one. Examples of original characters: Yiesha's OCs, UPC Fidelity.
