So my friends and I pitched in and got the core books for 4th edition. I browsed through the books during the preveiws of the new Hulk movie (Kick a** movie, BTW) and in the dark car ride home. Then I got to study what I could for a few hours before they wanted to try to make characters.
My god, I swear to you, character creation has never gone so smoothly for my group. And they knew nothing about the system besides what I told them! Then we got playing it. The combat was soooo smooth, so fast, I was able to do 5 encounters that night with them still doing role playing.
They removed multiple attacks in a round, which pissed off some of my players, but they were quickly quelled when I told them how much HP they have and about the interesting EXP system. They kicked he EXP back down to a flat amount. No CRs or anything. You're just given a number to devide amongst your PCs that don't die.
I'm still working through the kinks of figuring out some of the other rules, but the book is so easy to get through, we have little problem with that.
Anyways, this is mostly just my take on the game. Those without the book and having questions, talk back to me ^_^

Wasn't it? That movie kicked a**. But you gotta wonder if they are going to tie the Captain America and Thor movies (that come out later next year) into this loop. (Iron man and Captain America weren't really friends in the civil war comics...)
I haven't gotta to see anything about other then the preview that we have started in the member campaign sub-forum. I don't have the money currently to go out and buy the books, but my birthday is coming up soon so maybe my parents will surpise me...

I love the little jokes here and there they did, like the purple pants. You should have been in the theater when hehad said "Hulk smash!" Everyone was stood up and cheered! XD Can anyone else agree that there wasn't a first Hulk movie? Yeah, when I first looked at the preveiws and such, I was perplexed. I hardly understood anything. What did they do to HD? Do we get multiple attacks? What the hell is Passive Insight? What did they do to the spell system? So on and so forth. It all makes since after the browsing. *Hugs his books* So...so much simplier...

There is a Thor and Captain America movie coming out, my dad finds all this random stuff and e-mails it to me. (They should be coming out like July 09'). What do you mean there wasn't a first hulk movie? They came out with one like 2 or 3 years ago, I saw it with my friend from LA like 3 days after it came out. But the movie was a flop and never made it to DVD.

I'm glad it never did make it to video/DVD

Okay, suggestion when you do get and play 4th? DON'T try comparing it to 3.5 and such. My friends have been doing so since we got it, and it's been pissing me right off. One friend whining about there being no Druids, another bitching about the Wizards not being so powerful, ect, ect.
They don't realize that they tried to balance the roles of the game. They have different classes for different roles! Fighters and Clerics are typically defenders, Clerics and Warlords are buffers and Warlocks and Wizards are distant strikers! It pisses me off when he goes through and whines about no more spells slots and that the game is too nitty-gritty with no real discription. As well as calling it D&D for Morons, which, as their current ONLY 4th Edition DM, insults me, cause I enjoy the system!
Stupid PCs... can't wait to sick the Level 4 White Dragon on them... hope one of them freezes to death.

They thought that there was too fine a line between fighter and barbarian, so they kept fighter and got rid of barbarian.
As far as races go, they also got rid of half-orc and gnome, but added Eladrin and Tiefling. I'm sorry, but an Eladrin is basically an elf but has teleport at will (Eladrin Rogue? Broken?), and a Teifling is an evil aligned character. They snuffed gnome and put em in the monster manual and didn't even give a section for gnomes as player characters. That kinda pissed me off. No, I'm not comparing, I'm just noticing that they tried to do one thing, but ended up doing something else...and failed.
And yes, I do have to say that even for me, its D&D for Dummies. I'll give it the positive that its perfect for younger brand new players, but thats about it. The older brand new players and the older players will most likely stick with 3.5.
Honestly, 4.0 reminds me of pokemon or yugioh. gonk

No! Curse them! scream That just makes it worse from my point of view!
Why would they need to replace gnomes and half-orcs with another type of elf that can teleport, they already have like 6 different races of elf!
Yeah... from the look of things I think my D&D group will just stick with 3.5

-_- Yeah, the races are a little rediculous. Gnomes ARE still a playable race and all, but the fact that you have to look in the way back of the Monster Manual is kinda a downer.
They don't have 6 different elves though. That's just in 3.5. Eladrin are an elder race of elves or something. Been in existance long before the elves have.
Teiflings are awesome though, so I have no complaints for them. And the teleport isn't THAT horrid. They get to use it, what, once per encounter? Most of the other races get something that's almost as good as that, if not better in their own way.

As for that comment it seems reasonable after I re-read my dwarf fighters character sheet. But now I can't be a barbarian and get the fast movement ability. (I liked that speed bonus...)

Quote: In the monster manual they list like four or five races of elf, they don't need any more. I was referring to the 4th Edition one. They pretty much reduced it to the Eladrin, the ancient, otherworldly elves, and the Elves themselves. The 4th edition elf represents the wild elf. They have the Drow in there still of coarse, but they don't give off any pre-generated stat blocks. They're in the way back with Gnomes and Minotaurs.

Man, it's weird.
Some of friends here love 4th edition.
Others just b***h and moan about it up and down. Yet they still play.
