The past few days had been rough. Really, really rough. With moving into the Science and Technology building and the fire that followed shortly thereafter, Scyeth just didn't know what to think. Didn't do a lot of thinking, in fact. The blond spent a lot of time not unpacking, but doing push-ups, reading and re-reading notes, things like that. It bothered him. It really, really bothered him. It was like the fire had finally gotten the deep-seeded fear to take root in his heart. Grasp and squeeze, the boy had never had a heartache like this one.

So finally, the Australian decided to do something about it.

One evening, or morning, or something (he was still horribly disoriented), he found himself at RuiZhi's dorm, pillow under his arm. He knocked. What if the Chinese student was out? Scyeth scowled and cursed the universe and its strange, twisted sense of humor and knocked again. And again. And again. Someone would answer eventually. (It did not occur to Scyeth how very offended he might be if someone else answered from inside his boyfriend's room.)

He just didn't want to be alone tonight.

With his hair unbound (it was still recovering from the fire's heat) and wearing his old pajama pants (he hadn't found the time to replace them yet), the Chinese youth sat on the floor, hunched over tomes in his lap. Perhaps unsurprisingly, RuiZhi had not been sleeping. He was knee deep in notes, jotting down information swiftly without looking at his notepad, his brown eyes trained on an open book. He had so much work to do, studies, notes to take and classes to prepare for...he hardly had time to sleep.

It came as a surprise to him when there was a knock on his door. Such a surprise, in fact, that he sat there for a moment and stared, as if the door would open itself. The knocks persisted, and the youth finally scrambled out of his plethora of papers, pushing most of them to the side and hopping over to the door to open it sharply. "S-sorry I was..." RuiZhi blinked. "Scyeth?" The young man immediately moved back, opening the door wide, "Come in! Are you okay?" He couldn't help but be a little concerned; he hadn't got to see much of his boyfriend since he'd moved, and that he was here so suddenly was a surprise.

Scyeth blinked, holding his hand up as the door opened. For some reason, he hadn't exactly expected it to do that. Maybe it was just the exhaustion doing the thinking for him, but sometimes even the little things didn't make sense. He shook his head once and blinked owlishly at RuiZhi before breaking into a grin. It was good to see him, no matter the time. He stepped and looked around at the pile of papers, quickly deciding not to ask.

"Tired," he grumbled, making a beeline for RuiZhi's bed. The Aussie flopped down on top and kicked off his shoes. He settled his pillow on the bed and then looked expectantly at RuiZhi. "So I thought I'd come keep you company," he explained. He yawned and rubbed his eyes, looking around the room. Much more lived-in looking. Much nicer. Mhhm.

He watched as the blonde was practically drawn towards his bed, like a force of gravity. RuiZhi smiled, closing the door behind him and moving to join the Aussie, sitting on the bed. Brushing his hair over his shoulder, he chuckled, "That's very considerate of you." He carefully observed Scyeth, making sure he was okay otherwise, and was soothed by his antics. It was normal, to be so...unexpected.

"If you're tired, why come keep me company?" he inquired with a kind tone of voice. He wasn't sure why Scyeth would come all the way to his dorm to sleep, when surely his own room had a bed identical to the one he was currently laying on. "I'm happy to see you," he added softly, "and you're welcome to be here, just...making sure you're okay, I guess."

Scyeth gave another great yawn and stretched, much like a cat does when it wakes up. Blue eyes a little duller than normal, he watch RuiZhi join him and gave an approving nod. Oh, god, questions. Why? Why did he have to think? "Because," he grumbled, curling up and wrapping his arms around his pillow. "I thought you might lonely," he added with a shrug. Of course, he had to reason to think that. Because he didn't actually think that at all. It was a great cover up though.

He released his pillow and rolled over, effectively flopping onto his boyfriend's lap. He was lazy and tired and his head hurt. And he couldn't sleep. Hadn't been able to sleep. Been thinking entirely too hard, you know? He nuzzled a leg and made a soft noise. Mhhm. This is nice. He could sleep here. It just felt better having someone around.

"I see," he tried not to grin, but it was a losing battle. "You're very thoughtful," he teased the blonde lightly, biting his lip a little as said blonde was suddenly in his lap. RuiZhi hadn't ever seen Scyeth tired before...not even when they'd first met. Perhaps that was all that ailed him, a lack of sleep? Strange.

RuiZhi lighted one of his hands on his boyfriend's cheek, gently trailing his fingers into the blonde locks. "You look comfortable," he murmured softly, brushing his hand through Scyeth's hair in slow, methodical movements. He wondered if something was bothering the older boy, but wouldn't dare to ask. Instead, he was momentarily content to stroke the blonde's hair, unintentionally drawing his fingers over an elongated ear in the process.

It was nice to have him here. The Chinese boy didn't realize how much he'd missed him until now, having him in the room again. He had been more lonely than he'd given himself credit for, burying his nose in books not to think of it. "Maybe..." It was against the rules. But...

...but...

"Maybe you should move your stuff in here," he suggested quietly. If no one knew - and how could they possibly know? - it wouldn't cause any harm. Right?

"Mhhm, I know. I often have to marvel at my own generousity," Scyeth mumbled, smiling to himself. He just nodded, settling further onto RuiZhi as the other student stroked his hair. The blond started to purr like a cat. His hair was a strange topic, really; hair was a source of family pride. Usually, Scyeth would not let anyone touch a single strand of golden lock, but on the rare occasion that he did, he really, really enjoyed it. If it were long enough, he'd probably let RuiZhi brush and braid it. (Not that he'd ever admit to liking something so...feminine.)

He cracked open a blue eye, nearly asleep. "Move my stuff in here?" he parroted, intrigued. Now, that didn't sound like a bad idea. At all. "Are you sure?" he asked, too lazy to lift his head off his boyfriend's lap. "I'm pretty messy," he warned, smirking to himself as he sighed and nuzzled his pillow-lap again. "And I have a cat. Somewhere." Who knew where that devilish creature had gotten to.

The youth stared in silence for a time, trying to define how he felt about his boyfriend purring. Genuinely purring. Human vocal cords couldn't do that, but he already knew Scyeth was not human. RuiZhi found it...attractive. Cheeks darkening slightly, he continued to draw his fingers through those golden locks, enjoying the feel and Scyeth's apparent enjoyment of it himself.

He chuckled softly. Scyeth, questioning moving in? It appeared the Aussie was growing, a lot faster than RuiZhi himself was. "I'd like it," he said softly, trying to keep the other in a state of near slumber. If he hadn't slept all this time, he didn't want to wake the other once sleep was obtained. "I'm orderly, for the most part. Banish and I get along...we had time to bond after all." His hand paused near the lobe of Scyeth's ear, fingers tracing over the length gently.

"We make up for what each of us lacks, you know. We're good together, you and I." RuiZhi's voice was quiet, and he couldn't tell if he was still talking to his boyfriend or to himself. The words were comforting, almost like another realization more than a statement.

He'd have to find that cat of his. Father would be royally pissed if he knew he lost Banish. (Even if the cause was a fire. Crud. He needed to tell his father about the fire. Urk.) "Well, if you'd like it," he consented. He'd do anything if RuiZhi wanted him to. He'd go and conquer the world, if it would make him happy. He'd even leave this nice spot to go do so. A saddness spread over Scyeth then, both blue eyes opening as he realized he could not. He could not.

He was not good enough yet.

Shutting his eyes and slowly hauling himself up, Scyeth pushed his hair out of his faced and fixed the Chinese student with a keen look. "Ah, right," he agreed absently. I lack more than you know, friend, he thought wryly. He stretched and popped a shoulder. "Mhhm. Well. Let's go get my stuff now; everyone's asleep. I think." He was pretty sure it was late. He hadn't unpacked his clock yet. "All my stuff is still in its boxes, anyways." They could just grab it, come back, and sleep.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 18, 2008 3:46 pm

"Now?" RuiZhi was somewhat surprised by the haste of which the agreement came to. How are you sure? turned into right now was a mystery, but it was so very Scyeth. "Ah, o-okay." He stood, looking momentarily lost as he started to move his books and papers back into a place more suited than the ground. He wondered what the blonde was thinking, coming to him so late, almost sleeping and then...that look in his eyes, ready to move right then. Maybe that was his plan all along?

The youth finished quickly, looking around. His room, while definitely his, was not cluttered in the least, as he had precious little belongings to begin with. There'd be more than enough room for Scyeth, and he'd have no problems sharing the bed; RuiZhi's trust in the blonde was absolute, something that didn't come up as a surprise or a question. It simply was, and that was good enough.

Padding quietly to the door, he opened it again, making sure it was propped open for quick entry. "Lead the way."

No, not his plan at all. But it turned out to be much better than his half-baked plot to sleep uninvited, so the blond was more than happy to adopt it as his own. He brushed some hair behind his ear as he watched RuiZhi neaten up an already neat room and shook his head. It was going to be interesting when his mess was cluttering their space, hmm? Their space. What a peculiar thought...

Scyeth finally heaved himself to his feet and motioned for RuiZhi to follow him. He was fairly quiet as he padded through the halls, boots thrown somewhere on RuiZhi's floor. People were sleeping. Well, it wasn't like there were that many Science and Technology students yet, but still. It was the principle of the matter. He arrived at his dorm and pushed the door open, heading right for the small pile of boxes in the center of the barren room. He grabbed a few and looked at RuiZhi. "Can you grab the rest?" He really didn't have that much stuff to hide. Besides, RuiZhi had pilfered some of his belongings when he went away...

The youth followed without question, looking curiously at the small pile. It was just like when Scyeth had come back, and...RuiZhi remembered he still had a good deal of his belongings. He nodded to the blonde, stacking the boxes and picking them up carefully, making sure he had enough room to look around them. It would do no good to drop the other's belogings so thoughtlessly.

"I got it," he said quietly, smiling a bit at Scyeth. RuiZhi felt giddy for some reason; it could have been that he was willingly bending the rules, or that he was going to be calling his home shared with someone else. Both made him feel light and butterfly-swarmed in his chest. He padded out of the room and back down the hallway to his - their - dorm, light of foot and quick.

"Haven't found my cat yet," Scyeth remarked quietly. He didn't exactly miss the cat; no, he and Banish never saw eye-to-eye. However, he couldn't help but hope the small black menace was still okay, wherever he was lurking. (It was really that lurking part the worried Scyeth the most. Who knew when he was watching?) "He got out during the fire, you know?" Though, now that the blond actually thought about it, the school of basic learning was probably a good place to check. After all, that's where they had been living up until a few days ago. Yeah. He'd go look for him later.

The Aussie snuck back down the hallway, toeing open RuiZhi's door and shuffling sideways, trying to keep the door open long enough for his boyfriend to slip back through. Once accomplished, he just set his things down in a pile on the floor. Who needed to be organized now? "I'll....do something with them later," Scyeth said with an owlish blink. It was too much to ask to actually do something intelligent with them at this very moment. A yawn. A stretch. "Okay?"
PostPosted: Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:25 am

"We'll leave some food out for him," RuiZhi replied, somewhat distracted between the boxes, Scyeth and the talk of Banish. He knew the cat was self-sufficient, and not normal by any means...much like his owner, the youth supposed. Putting the boxes down, he nodded to the blonde, casting a glance to the side to observe the other. Scyeth's expression was enough to make him grin; the poor guy really was quite tired.

He closed the distance between himself and his boyfriend as the other stretched, wrapping his arms around Scyeth's torso. "That's fine," he murmured quietly, feeling soothed by the closeness. RuiZhi peered up at his sleepy counterpart. "You should go back to getting some sleep for now."

Scyeth blinked again, taking a moment to register the fact his boyfriend had attached to him again. Hmm. This was nice. "Nnn," Scyeth said, agreeing. He nuzzled RuiZhi's neck and settled his chin on the other boy's shouder. Ahh. This was nice indeed. Hell, he could go to sleep right here if he really wanted! The blond hummed pleasantly, the noise quickly changing back into a purr even Banish would be jealous of.

That's when the sleep blond realized they were still standing. He grunted and shook his head, trying to ward of the sleepiness just a little further. He reeled back a bit, peering at RuiZhi with sleepy eyes. Bedtime was a great idea, but- "How are we gonna do this, exactly?" he murmured, the purr not entirely lost. He didn't want to just assume; who knew where this left their personal boundaries? He didn't mind sharing a bed, but...he just....didn't want to mess this up. He couldn't mess this up.
