Crevan liked the night. He had never been quite sure why, but it seemed reasonable to assume it was because it gave him cover and hid him when he wanted it to. His fur was dark enough that he could practically become invisible when the sun went down, and that was just the way he liked it.
The dog was restless, although it wasn't particularly unusual for him. He could never settle down, never just relax and enjoy the moment. He always had to be on the move, doing something, stirring up some sort of excitement. Crevan did not even enjoy it, not all the time, anyway. For whatever reason, his mind spurred him on. Perhaps it was bringing misfortune to others that made him feel good about himself.
He padded silently through the tall grass, flicking his tail. Somewhere, someone was waiting for him, although they did not know it yet.

Well, in a sense, at least, because Ujuzi had only been known to ever wait for a small group of individuals, and those were her eleven children, her alpha, Haiji, her packmates, and... even if only for a time, her mate, ex-mate. The female swept through the grasses at a comfortable trot, not afraid of anything but wary of much. She traveled at night because it was safer, when the dangerous larger predators would be sleeping, and likely her children as well, who she was scincerely hoping to come across one of these days. Until then she just needed to get away from the Pridelands for a while. Her heart still ached dully when she neared the den where she'd birthed her large brood, their scents long since faded but still fresh in her mind. It was when she began craving having those small bodies clinging to her for safety and warmth again that Ujuzi knew she'd been mulling on it too long. She had to get out, get some fresh air away from "home", and so when the pack made it' temporary disband she set out.
Ujuzi only really decided to stop for one thing, and that was a drink of water. Finally she slowed her trot to take a more cautious sniff of the air, pushing past the grasses still.

Crevan paused, lifting his muzzle. With a deep inhale, he caught a scent in the cool night air. It was another wild dog, and a female one at that. He raised his tail, a smirk spreading across his lips. It was his lucky night. He quickened his pace, a hungry look in his eyes. There was purpose to the night now.
It did not take him particularly long to find the female. She was searching for something, and so he remained silent, crouching in the grass. Crevan would not break her concentration, for fear it would cut the night's fun short.

Ujuzi's large ears twitched slightly as she thought she heard something, but as nothing leapt out at her she continued her search, though she had become aware of the stranger's presence and had a feeling he had not disappeared but was simply hiding or laying low. Just a feeling though.
Her search brought her to a generous sized series of puddles, and she approached them with great thirst, happily lapping up some of the liquid once she was sure it was actually clean for drinking. Her own tail swayed behind her, though not high like his if only because she was not in an inviting and happy mood, she really never was.

Within moments he appeared, fur fluffed out both in a display of confidence and his usual attempt at intimidation. The dog had thick fur, and when it stood up, it made him appear rather bigger than he actually was.
His silver eyes swept over Ujuzi with their usual greedy look, and there was nothing particularly kind about his expression. His voice was surprisingly quiet when he spoke, but like his expression, it wasn't very welcoming. "All alone?"

Ujuzi was calm as she lifted her head and glanced back over her shoulder at the male, eyes narrowing softly. She caught a few stray water droplets with a quick swipe of her tongue, but then lost just a touch of her casual demeanor as her hackles bristled with unease.
"What of it?" She asked with a warning tone, glaring the male down. She didn't care how big he was, if he was looking for trouble he'd surely found it. Ujuzi wasn't one to back down from a fight when it came to her safety.

"Oh, nothing. I just find it... interesting."
He was somewhat surprised at her challenging attitude, but did not turn away because of it. If anything, he thought, it made things all the more interesting. His eyes narrowed to match hers as he paced around, stopping on the other side of the puddle she had been drinking from. Crevan sat down, his tail wrapping around his haunches.
"Very interesting."

The female, by no means the submissive type, being accustomed to acting as the alpha's right paw and being a mother of eleven to boot, was not going to be intimidated, though what she refused to admit was the situation was just the slightest bit worrisome. It was obvious this male's intentions should be taken as questionable at best and dangerous at worst. Ujuzi growled briefly in warning, then lowered her head and took in a bit more water before drawing back from the puddle completely.
"Fine. Find it interesting by yourself." She shot out with dry sarcasm, licking her muzzle dry once again as she turned and made to head off on her way again.

Crevan watching her with a burning intensity, and couldn't help but smirk again at her words. When she turned to leave, he rose as well, following without bothering to leave some distance between them.
"No, I don't think so," he said, his voice still quiet as ever. "I would find it rather boring, being alone. I don't plan on losing your presence so quickly..."

Ujuzi was naturally aware when he stood up and moved over which was just what stopped her from being startled when he suddenly appeared in front of her, cutting off her path.
"I'm not sure I like your tone." She snarled, baring her fangs as her hackles raised in full, head instinctively lowering a bit as she took a step or two back, prepared for a fight it looked like. "Step out of the way, stranger."

"I'm not sure I like your tone," he murmured with a smile.
"No, I'm quite comfortable where I am. Oho!" A somewhat devilish gleam appeared in his eyes. "I assume it's you that is uncomfortable, then... well, I suppose it wasn't the best idea, wandering alone at night with a pretty face like yours..."

"My patience is waning..." Was the next to last warning he'd get. "Don't make me have to hurt you. Leave me alone, or I'll make sure no female looks twice at your face again!" She snapped this time, trying, with some caution, to move around and past him. For the time being she was sure of herself should she need to stand her ground and fight, or even to escape, but the situation was definitely sending her pulse racing with every passing exchange of words or spoken and unspoken threat.

"You, hurt me?" He laughed. "Listen, dollface, I'm sure you're a hell of a fighter for a woman, but that is a pretty big assumption..."
He moved again, once more blocking her path. Crevan's expression was purely smug, his tail flicking from side to side.

The only warning that the male would get by that point was the sharp narrowing of her eyes as her lips curled back and up in a full out snarl. She lashed out, taking advantage of the fact that he was still talking big to snap her jaws with every intention of clamping down on his face, his muzzle would be ideal. Just like that the normally collected female had had enough. She'd just have to chase him off, then. No more words.

Crevan had trained himself for quick reactions, and the moment she snapped, he tried to duck, but she had timed it well. Instead of catching his muzzle like she intended, her teeth hitting the soft skin around his left eye. He tore himself away, the slash she created extended to the middle of his cheek in the process.
Though he was a bit surprised by the sudden snap, he managed a chuckle. "Feisty?" he teased, baring his fangs.
