In the end, it took Kissimmee the greater half of the hour to stop the big red lion from lamenting. Jaden, who had been struggling to figure out this situation ever since the brute had crashed into him, had retired to nurse his wounds on a stump a few lengths away. He’d counted the lengths out, just to be sure the lion didn’t try anything funny. This was starting to be a rather miserable day, he thought to himself. Already his red fur had turned purplely in patches- but he was pleased to see that at least one of the lion’s black rimmed eyes seemed to have a shiner on it.
“Now now,” Kissimmee hushed. “Let’s stop this nonsense. I’m sure he knows who you’re talking about.”
Atreyu finally sniffed, and shifted his tail. Finally stopping his weeping, he shot a dirty look towards the war-torn Jaden. “How could anyone be so callous?” He breathed.
“Callous?” Jaden balked. “We need to take a few steps back here. I don’t even know who we’re talking about. I don’t remember being with any lionesses in the last mon-“
Atreyu sniffed, and looked away. His jaw was set and his eyes narrowed. “She’s not a lioness.” He half whispered.
“What?!” Kissimmee gaped. Oh, this was too good! The cheetah mused. She loved a good scandal. Life had been so positively droll back in the savannah. She shot a look over to Jaden, who didn’t seem as scandalized by the statement that she was.
Jaden wasn’t scandalized- interracial relations were hardly an issue for the brilliant looking leopard. But he could see in the cheetah’s eyes that she was adoring every moment of the drama unfolding. With a sigh, Jaden looked upwards and tried to consider who it might have been. Knowing she wasn’t a lioness didn’t really even the playing field of tails he’d chased even this last month.
“Yeah… that doesn’t really help me figure out who this is.” Jaden chuckled nervously.
Kissimmee scowled at Jaden. “What are you, some kind of tramp?”
“I’ve been called worse.” The leopard preened.
The lady shook her head, but perhaps more forgiving towards the distraught lion, patted his head. “Well…what is her name? How is anyone supposed to get this story straight with out some kind of name?”
“…Her name is Marzi,” The lion sighed, slumping his head forwards.
Kissimmee wasn’t aware of the scandal yet, but Jaden gave her a pitiful look in preparation of it. Oh, she was going to love this. But, truthfully, Jaden was a bit surprised. It was no shock to know that Jaden, lover of all the ladies, was in such a predicament- but he was surprised to hear of a lion in a similar situation. Even then… Jaden was not all that sincere. But was this…?
“I, uh…” Jaden started. “Well, I know who she is- I mean.”
Atreyu sniffed. He didn’t know what to say- by now, a kind of embarrassment was replacing any kind of fury he had over the male. But more then that, he was so irrevocably jealous. How dare he…
The leopard stood up, furrowing his brow questionably. “I’m afraid I don’t really understand. I’m not in love with her, if that’s what you think.”
“But she said-“
Jaden scoffed. “Hey, hey. I’ve got a lot of lady friends. She’s a lovely girl. And, it’s not my fault you haven’t ever told her how you feel.”
Kissimmiee nodded. “Yes, that’s not very practical. As whorish as my dear escort is, he can’t be blamed for the affections of some….?” She asked, searching for a word.
“Wild dog.” Jaden offered.
“Yes. Wild dog.” Kissimiee responded to Atreyu, before her face fell and she suddenly jolted back like lighting. “Wait- what?!”
As it were, it took longer to catch Kissimiee up to speed then it did to stop the big brute from crying.
