Name: Anjali Frangipani
Age: 24
Height: 5' 6"
Hair Color/Style: Black hair, long but worn in a braid to keep it out of the way, bangs held away from the face with a headband. (Note: Anjali's braid reaches to her mid-back; her official art is inaccurate in that respect.)
Eye Color: Gold.
Build: Thin and wiry, with some muscle to her from doing gardening work (digging, raking, moving earth/planting flats, etc.) but not anywhere near body-builder level. Small breasts.
Nationality: half-Indian, half-British, physically favoring her Indian side. (She speaks with a light British accent and Indian lilt to her vowels.)
Occupation: Gardener and Groundskeeper.
Likes: Gardening, traditional Indian music, mythology, theatre, tea.
Dislikes: People who screw up the environment, boors, alcohol, loud music, cacti.
Hobbies: Tending to her collection of plants, breeding plants through traditional methods, reading (especially Shakespeare and other playwrights), hiking, experimenting with tea blends.
Personality: Friendly and genial but soft-spoken - she'll talk to you if you talk to her, and she will be polite and engaging, but she prefers to be working or relaxing with a good book... or perhaps with calm, polite debate and conversation over a well-set tea table. Anjali is cultured and educated and carries herself that way - if anyone looks down on her for doing 'menial' work, she'll whack them with her knowledge and dignity so hard and fast they won't know what hit them. She's also not afraid to take charge of a situation, and can be rather mother-hen over issues or people that concern her. And over her plants, of course.
She's a strong and hard worker, and is not afraid to get dirty when she needs to. In fact, Anjali is at her happiest when elbow-deep in dirt and worms. She keeps a number of rare plants in her care, and goes so far as to talk to them every night in hopes it'll encourage them to grow better. Anjali also enjoys a challenge, taking on the tasks of everything from breeding rare plants to landscaping and renovating blasted garden areas that most would never deem salvagable. When on the job she's very much take-charge, confident in her abilities and in her judgement, and while she remains professional she certainly twitches if someone questions those things.
Anjali also treasures her routine, and has a set pattern of doing things every day. Her way of coping with stress is to absorb herself in the familiar comfort of that routine, letting it motor her through the days without her having to really be involved.
Background: Anjali grew up in a moderately wealthy family in India, with an Indian father and a British mother who was also raised in India. As she grew older she discovered a love of plants, especially tropical plants and those from the rainforests, as well as aquatic plant species. After going to university in England to study botany, she decided that science and dissecting plants on the chemical level was not the way she wanted to approach flora for the rest of her life. She dropped out of college and went into landscaping and gardening, despite her parents' disapproval (although they did get over it - it was just somewhat of a shock at first, since they placed a high value on education and had wanted her to be a doctor or something of the sort). While she hasn't made a name for herself in that arena yet, she hopes to develop a business of traditionally cultivating rare exotic plants and tropical species to sell, both for money and for the propagation of rare types of plants.
Her relationship to her family is cordial, but not super-close - they do their own things, and she does hers, and it works out alright.
Reason for Coming to Island: Supposedly hired as a gardener and landscaper, with the promise of room and board and first crack at exploring the rainforests to seek out new or rare species to use in her breeding programs.
