 Part i : the tale
The history of this ancient race dates back at least a hundred years, an average wolf living no higher than twenty years of age. The pack that is told in this tale started out small, consisting of no more than ten wolves, with only two being documented. The first was Skeith Natcheva, the alpha and a large brutish male who's pelt was a deep ashen gray. The second was his mate, Lucia Natcheva, a thin yet very beautiful wolf. Her coloration resembled the fallen snow that occurred during the winter time, her scent reminding one's senses of the fresh spring that had once occurred and will happen again. These two wolves ruled their pack with a gentle and fair touch which led to many creatures joining their ranks in an effort to find themselves a peaceful home.
A harsh winter that year led to the death of many of the pack. This unfortunate and direful event resulted in the pack's numbers reducing. It worried the alpha pair, for Lucia was heavy with pups and was due that spring to give birth. The decision was made for the pack to leave their territory in search of a new home, one that had been sheltered from the horrible winter and would provide them with plenty of food for the remaining frigid season. Their prayers were answered.
This new territory contained every necessity for life. The game was plentiful, water sources were nearby (although frozen around this time of year), and the surrounding vegetation consisted of many trees, ideal for covering up ones presence. The land was surrounded by high cliffs on all sides, save on this opening which the pack was lucky enough to find. The icy grip of winter had hardly touched the valley, as the land did not even resemble the dead. In the spring the land had proved to be even more bountiful. Paradise had been found.
Thus Lucia's children were born. Three pups blessed the pack that year, each strong and hearty babies. Two of them resembled their mother, yet the last was dark and painted with a white symbol on his chest resembling a downward pointing arrow. This young male was granted the name Nujcap (which translated to 'marked' in their tongue) and grew to be a powerful and highly intelligent wolf. He became the successor to Skeith, who was not yet old enough to die yet old enough to retire. Nujcap had learned much from his elder father, the two enjoying each other's company. Due to the plentiful game a lot of free resting time was available, yet Nujcap's mind never ceased to keep moving. He watched the stars, observed the weather, explored the territory, and even watched the tendencies of his pack mates. Nujcap Natcheva would eventually be named the true founder of this mountain dwelling pack, his named never forgotten.
It was unfortunate that the young male died prematurely from disease. He spoke to his father many days while Nujcap resided on his death bed and they both began to create a grand scheme to create an undying race, the perfect race of wolves that would be the strongest, the fastest, and marked just as he had been. Gifted with intelligence and immunity to disease. Some say that Nujcap had been plagued with deliriums to contrive such a incredulous thought but Skeith took the young male seriously and would honor his death wish. The pack had been loyal to Nujcap and Skeith alike and so they agreed to do as the dying wolf, or a prophet as some considered him, wished.
Skeith and Lucia bred once again and again and again, where upon finally another pup was borne in the image of Nujcap, honoring the brilliant wolf's markings. The alphas proclaimed this new pup, who was also male, to be the basis of their packs appearance. This new child, named Fleay, meaning 'comet', bore the mark of an upside down teardrop shape, resembling a comet, or shooting star. His pelt was as black as the night sky, his eyes an exotic lime. He was raised with nothing but the best education, being ordained to succeed his father and plant the new foundation for this pack. Fleay was the sovereign prince and all bowed to him. Yet he was taught to not let this power go to his head, but to use it wisely. Thus he did. In time both Skeith and Lucia passed away, leaving their son as alpha. Fleay had a few things in mind for this pack. The first was that only selective breeding was to occur. Only the strongest and smartest wolves would allow to breed with his children who had gained the look of him. Eventually all other colors would die out, leaving the resemblance of himself, and Nujcap, left. The second was to become a secretive society, leaving not the territory of the mountains. The third to educate all wolves to the highest decree. His pack would reign supreme, their paradise valley being given the heavenly species that he and his predecessors created.
Part ii : an ancient race
Fleay, now alpha of this valley pack, was mated to a wolf equally as intelligent and witty as he. She went by the name of Rinth and they mated many times to try and produce look-a-likes that resembled their father in every feature. Two males and four females were both with the same dark fur, physical build, white markings, and lime eyes over the coarse of Fleay and Rinth's relationship. And from there they only allowed only these pups to mate, and none of their other children. And so this continued throughout the years, only allowing the wolves that resembled Fleay and Nujcap to breed. Eventually all other coat colors were bred out as well as all other physical build. A conformation standard was written to find the perfect specimen.
General Appearance: This species of wolf had become larger with time, yet not excessivly heavy. It is only found within the one region of the volcano, being isolated for so many years. The characteristc marks of this species is a dark coat, a white or light gray mark on the chest (in a veriaty of shapes) and lime green eyes that are healthy and proud. The legs are long resulting in graceful strides that carry the weight well. Most wolves that belong to this race are undyingly loyal, proud, and believe in their ancestors decisions.
Size and Substance: - Size: They, for the most part, are larger than the average wolf and able to take down large prey, such as moose, with only two or three wolves participating. Their bodies are long and elegant with perportionate limbs and well fitted ears. - Substance--Males can meet up to 140 pounds with females being slightly less heavier.
Head: - Expression--Alert, watchful and cold. Dignified. - Eyes--and peicing sahde of lime green that greatly contrasts with the coat color. They should be the common shape of a wolf's...being somewhat almond or diamond shapped. - Ears--Erect and well fitted ears. They shouldn't look too big or too small. They should be a shade or two darker than the body color (the same as the led and tail color). Ears should be fully rotatable and are used to help exress feelings, emotions, and situations. - Muzzle--Long and tapering with a slanting stop that streamlines the top of the head. The mouth should be gaping, but not too much as to resemble another species (such as the tasmanian tiger). All teeth should be present, and slightly enlarged due to the increased body size. - Nose--Black.
Body: - Neck-- Thick and balanced, should hold the head well. - Topline--Level - Body--Strong yet streamline. - Chest--Thin yet large enough to hold a healthy set of lungs. Should act as a plow during snowfall. - Tail--thick and bushy, yet not too bushy to resemble a fox. Should reach the ankles and should not exceed furthur.
Coat: Double coat with the third alyer on the back to reduce permeability to the rain. Should be thick and healthy yet earthy, as no not promote noticable shiny-ness.
Color: All hairs should work together to speak one color: black. The darkest parts should consist of the ears, tail, muzzle, paws, and legs. The body's fur should be dark at the base but lighter at the tip. Multiple colors are noticable including grey, black, and dark brown. The only exception is at the chest where a lighter path of fur should be present. If no patch is present than a wolf cannot be accepted as breedable. This patch should not extend along the neck, somach, or shoulders and no other white should be found anywhere along the body. It can come in a variety of shapes such as stars, hearts, necklances, diamonds, and just miscellanious blobs.
-----------------------------------------------------------
It was not only their build and color that had changed, but their habits had changed as well. Their language had changed, as well as their beliefs.
