The past few days had been hectic, much too much so for Mimea's liking. She was tired and was still as far away from finding her new name as ever.
The lioness wanted nothing more than sleep.
She padded silently over the hill, ears perked but eyes heavily lidded. She felt as though her body was screaming for rest, even though she had done very little that day. Finally she came upon the mouth of a cave in the side of the hill. It seemed a perfect shelter for the night, so she entered gratefully, only to find that it was already occupied.

Once upon a time, Kiraku would not have taken kindly to this intruder. He shuddered to think of it now. While he wanted a bit of peace and quiet, a single lioness wouldn't be too much of a bother.
"Come on in," he said in his quiet voice, noticing she was retreating. "I don't mind sharing."

"I... oh, okay, if you're sure."
After her last few encounters she was a bit reluctant, but she thought of Jasiri, possibly her one positive experience on this quest, and decided to take a chance. The den was deep but fairly narrow. Mimea eyed the lion's curly mane with curiosity. His pale fur helped him stand out in the darkness.
"My name is Mimea."

Aku nodded at her. "Not a problem." Really, it wasn't. Sharing wasn't exactly a burden. The den was small, but big enough that he had more than enough room for himself.
"Mimea, then. My name is Kiraku. Where are you from, Mimea?"

The lioness instantly took a liking to her new denmate. He seemed easygoing and friendly without being pushy or creepy. It was a nice change from what she had already experienced.
"I'm from the Jini-msemi. Have you heard of it? It's a little pride in the swamps. I'm going back soon. Right now, I'm on my naming quest."
She looked at him hopefully.

Kiraku shook his great, shaggy head. "Nope, I'm afraid I haven't. It sounds interesting, though. A naming quest, huh?" He had never heard of it, but took a stab at guessing anyway. "Looking for a new name? Is it tradition or something? I like the name Mimea."

Mimea was a bit disappointed. "A tradition, yeah. When Jini-misemi cubs are born, they're given baby names, simple little things like nicknames. When they become adolescents, they leave the pride in search of their true adult name."
She shrugged. "I like it too, but I won't mind changing it, either. I haven't found any clues yet, though. Where are you from?"
Maybe hearing about a different pride would take her mind off of her home.

"I see. I can't imagine changing my name, but I guess that if you grew up knowing it was only a nickname, it wouldn't be so hard."
Aku licked his paw, running it over the top of his head. Blasted mane insisted on sticking up in loose spirals. "I'm from the Bahari'mtoto, but I haven't been there since I was a cub. I... ah..."
He looked away, feeling a bit awkward. "I was a pretty terrible kid. I left on a bad note with my family and haven't felt up to going back yet."

Mimea didn't seem particularly fazed by this piece of information. "Being out on your own really makes a difference, don't you think? I'd say I was a pretty insufferable cub too!"
She smiled sleepily. "I'm sure you'll know when the time is right. I mean, you seem fine now. Maybe it'll be soon."
Mimea rested her head on her paws, making an attempt to stay awake for the conversation.

"Yeah, I s'pose," he said, still feeling a bit uncomfortable. Aku never really opened up to anyone, although he had been making an effort as a part of bettering himself. Admitting his mistakes was still hard - something he got from his father, he supposed. The familiar pang of regret stabbed at him as it usually did when he thought of his parents.
"Hey - are you tired?" he asked, looking down at her. "You don't have to stay awake if you don't want to. I won't be offended, I promise."

"No, no, I'm fine," she said, closing her eyes. "Just a little sleepy, that's all..."
But truthfully, she was exhausted, and within moments Mimea was fast asleep, dreaming of the swamp and of big lions with curly fur.
