She was angry, so angry! She couldn't believe that the dog had had the nerve to steal right from under her nose like that, and was even angrier at herself for not being quick enough to stop it.
Mimea growled to heself, stalking through the grass. She wanted to go home. When would this end?

Tobwe had been watching.
It hadn't even occurred to him to try and help the lioness save her meal. That would've been interfering, and he was there to watch, not to participate.
The smaller lioness interested him. She was far from his type - her muddy brown pelt was especially unattractive, he thought - but she acted as though she were from an entirely different world. Curiosity got the better of him and so he followed.
Tobwe crouched nearby, watching.

The lioness continued to fume. That kill was supposed to last her for another day, at least. She could hunt again, sure, but it was a principle of the matter! Mimea had worked for that food, and the wild dog hadn't.
She spun around to storm in the opposite direction for a while when a bright blaze of turquoise caught her eye. What was that? Mimea tilted her head, studying it for a moment, when all of a sudden - it moved.
"Who's there?" she called suspiciously. Mimea did not want to deal with yet another jerk.

He didn't seem particularly worried about being caught. In fact, he didn't seem particularly emotional either way. A slow grin spread on his lips as he rose, nodding to the female.
"Hi there. The name's Tobwe."

"Yeah, okay," she said angrily. "That's great and all. Why are you watching me?"
How long had he been there? The idea that he had been following her for some time was unnerving. She thought she had been alone! What embarassing things might she have done? Like... like...
"The wild dog!" she growled. "Were you there?"

"I sure was," he said breezily. "Unfortunate, really, very unfair." His voice wasn't condescending, but it wasn't particularly concerned or sympathetic either. "It's pretty clear that you aren't from around here. A rogue would typically defend his meal, I think. Where are you from?"

Mimea did not like this lion much more than she liked the wild dog. What kind of lion followed another one around, for no real reason? It was creepy.
Therefore, she did not want to tell him about the Jini-msemi. Would he follow her back if she did? Ugh.
"I'm from the Pridelands," she lied, thinking of Jasiri.

Tobwe tipped his head to the side, a thoughtful look on his face. "Hmm."
He had met Pridelanders before and they had never been as strange as this female. They were, in fact, painfully average, at least in his eyes. No, he was sure that she was lying. It was quite obvious.
"Fascinating, because I've never met a Pridelander that looks like you do, or acts like you do. Tell me, then, who were the late king and queen? I hear they just passed away recently..."
He eyed her, waiting.

"I... they..."
She glanced around wildly, as though the names would appear out of thin air. It was clear that lying was a stupid idea, but she doubted she'd be any better off had she told the truth.
"My parents never cared for the monarchy," she lied quickly. "They had to stay in the pride because of family, but they raised me away from the rest of them. They never taught me about the pride or its history. When I was old enough, we left."
Mimea held her breath, watching for his reaction.

"Funny that they could keep you hidden from such a large pride for so long..."
He began to grow weary with the lioness. The things she had to say held little interest for him. Tobwe had found her unique because she was a foreigner, but she wouldn't even speak about that, insisting that she was from the Pridelands.
"For future reference, the king and queen were Mufasa and Sarabi," he said, wandering away carelessly.
