Evie had been trying very hard lately to get out of her bad mood and get out of the house. So far, it seemed to be working alright. She accompanied Anastasia out of the house on that particular day to find a flea collar for Oscar, since the little one-eyed b*****d seemed to have become a moving continent for the wretched things. Scratching idly at her bit-up arm, Evie walked alongside Ana and listened with patient contentment to the teenager's cheerful babbling.

"I think we should find him a cute one, y'know? Like, like a nice baby blue one. It'd match his eye so well."

"Whatever ya say, hon."

Fate liked to work in funny ways.

Tango, himself, hadn’t been having exactly a walk in the park with May over the past few weeks. Being the genuinely concerned softy as his mother liked to put it, he didn’t exactly thrill at seeing the aforementioned woman so upset, after having just been cheered up. It seemed life had something against May, as she’d take one step forward, and two back with her emotions nearly every time.

Needless to say, when May decided eating was no longer a necessity, it became apparent to Tango that she definitely needed to get out of the house. Unfortunately neither his aunt, nor Raito had been in town lately. Both opting to go to...well...somewhere not to the advantage of him... leaving him to fend for himself with the May problem.

So, that was how the dynamic duo found themselves walking out of a café, a mopping May and an agitated Tango. He felt like shouting “Look, I’m trying. What more do you want?” But he knew his sarcasm and attitude wouldn’t exactly reach out to the woman at the moment, so instead he bit his tongue, took her hand (Like she so often liked to do, despite the fact he hated it) and lead her down to the marketplace.

Maybe she could find some mutated flower or something to take home and cheer herself up with

Not paying much attention to where she was going, Evie brushed past people, stepped on toes, and knocked things out of other's grasps. She ignored the annoyed looks and angry cussing that followed her as she cut a path through the crowd, leaving it up to Ana to apologize for her as usual.

"Sorry, sorry - she's, uh, blind in one eye, makes her angry - I'm sorry, here, here's five bucks to replace those eggs, I'm sure it'll wash right out - I'm sorry, here, I don't think he landed on his head-"

"You worry too much," Evie said as Ana caught up to her, her face flushed rosy green. "They'll get over it."

"Yeah, like YOU get over things so easy?" Ana said in a rare spasm of spite. She regretted it the instant it came out of her mouth as Evie's jaw set and her nostrils flared. "Oh, god...Ma, I didn't-"

"Y'know what, Ana. ******** off for a while," Evie snapped, jamming her hands into her pockets and walking faster through the crowd. She slammed her shoulder into a woman walking with her young son, and kept moving without apology.

Feeling like a pure, unadulterated jerk, Ana rushed up to the woman, wringing her hands.

"I-I'm sorry," she said, looking mortified. "S-she didn't mean it."

May stumbled a bit as she was bumped, frowning in response. How rude. However, true to May’s character, she remained silent about her thoughts and was perfectly content to keep on walking. Maybe if she walked enough Tango would give up and take her home? Those dreams were shattered as a young...green teen walked up to her to apologize for the other woman’s actions.

Oh snap. ALIENS! May’s eyes widened to unmeasurable size as she looked from the green child to Tango.

Tango, however, was not amused in the least with the ‘alien’ and instead snapped to his mother. ]“Oi. Did you see that?” He snapped, angered, “Don’t apologize for other people. It’s pointless. She was the rude one, not you.”

“Tango...be nice.”

Ana sighed, running her gently glowing hands through her curly hair in distress.

"I have to," she said miserably. "I made her mad, I just said something I shouldn't have. She doesn't mean it, she's just..."

Ana shook her head sadly.

"It's been this way since a friend of hers died."

She flushed green again, realizing she'd let slip more than she should have. Clearing her throat hurriedly, she dug into her pocket and withdrew a few pieces.

"Here, for the trouble," she said, pressing them into the woman's hands.

Tango watched as May’s own expression darkened. Oh. Right. Now not only was she upset about a run over dog that she didn’t own, she was sinking back into the depression that was Carrie’s death. If only the girl before her knew.

May turned her hand back over and let the coins drop back into their owners hand. “I don’t want your money.” May murmured. “You shouldn’t have to, literally, pay for her upsetting people. I would never do that to Tango.”

Tango scoffed, as if May really had a choice in the matter. Though he probably would never give up his money, willingly, to strangers, her actions made sense to him. “Is she your mom?” He asked, his eyes narrowed as he turned behind him to look for the woman that had already melded into the crowd.

"But you're upset," Ana said, looking miserable. "It's all my fault, let me at least buy you a, a cupcake. Or, o-or something..."

Wringing her hands as she looked around in distress, she realized Tango had asked her a question. She nodded, trying to regain her usual sunny disposition.

"She is," she said, looking around for Evie. The girl was angrier than she'd thought - she'd simply taken off, leaving Ana behind. "She's...I...I should find her, I take care of her. She hasn't been right, ever since Carrie-"

She clamped a hand to her mouth, looking mortified with herself. The money May had given back fell to the ground in a tinkling mass and she blushed so bright her skin looked lime green.

"I sh-should go."

It seemed to May as if all the sound in the world melted away leaving only the soft tinkling of the coins as they hit the ground. Somewhere next to her, she heard Tango take in a sharp breath and May narrowed her eyes. “Carrie...?” She repeated the name that had been just playing itself in her head.

“May.” Tango’s shock slipped away into that difference shield he used so often. “Don’t be stupid.” He warned turning to the green girl. “Coincidence. Her friend, by the same name was recently killed.” He spoke, purposefully avoiding the name.

Discreetly, he took a slight step forward, covering the coins with his foot. Despite what he said about coincidences he wasn’t exactly positive that’s all it was. So he’d hold her coins hostage until they talked about this. “I’m Tango. This is May. ...What’s your name?”

Ana cared little about the money, but her ingrained politeness kept her from running after Evie.

"I'm Anastasia," she said, bobbing her head. "My...she's Evie. It's very nice to meet you."

Tango was willing to let the other child go then. Satisfied with her awkward appearances and the strong scent of Kiwi that was coming off of her in waves, he was certain she was a child like him and once she was gone he could inform May of such a thing.

May, of course, never could do things the way he wanted. “It’s been a pleasure to meet you too.” She murmured, bending down to pick up the coins and sliding them in Tango’s hand, knowing he’d take care of them. There was still a bitter tone in her voice, but May’s better personality was winning her over and so the next words that left her lips Tango assumed would be her doom. Her eyes roamed behind her, noticing the woman had disappeared in the crowd completely. “Will you need help finding her?”

Ana smiled politely, inclining her head again. At the question, she wrung her hands and gave a feeble nod.

"If it's not too much trouble..."

Evie, as it was, was in no mood to be found. She'd taken shelter in a cafe a ten minute walk away, drinking weak tea and glowering at everyone around her. She was being given a wide berth, as though she was rabid, which she appreciated.

There was something in May’s expression that told Tango the girl’s response hadn’t been exactly what his mother had expected. It was smile, almost unnoticeable to even him, but it had been there, and he fought the smirk that wanted to rise to his lips. It seemed his mother would never learn her lesson. If you didn’t want to help- you don’t answer.

“I think she went that way.” Tango pointed back behind them. Ah, well. Mind as well help so they could get out of there faster. The scent of Kiwi was too strong for his taste. May was a dolt for not connecting the dots yet.

“Right. Well then, lets go. Shall we?” May made a motion with her arm, offering for the green haired child to go first.

Ana nodded and lead the way, ignoring the jostling crowds and looking intently for Evie. She had an unpleasant cold lump of guilt making a knot of her stomach and making her queasy - she hated it when someone was angry with her.

"God, I gotta apologize," she murmured, mostly to herself.

Evie saw Ana's bright green hair bobbing along on the sidewalk, but made no move to get up. She was a little bit calmer now, though not by much. Let her come - she'd apologize, Evie would apologize, and things would settle down again.

Then she noticed the woman she'd slammed into following Ana like a dog.

"Oh, for the love of god," Evie muttered in disgust. She was NOT apologizing for something she felt no regret for.

May watched as the girl took the lead, and giving her a bit of a lee-way, began to follow. Her eyes locked with the ground, watching the cracks beneath her feet. A childish memory snapped to her brain and she attempted to avoid each of the cracks on the sidewalk, a feeble attempt at keeping her mind away from her body's aching desire. Man, so that was how it felt to be addicted. Funny, she didn't particularly care for the feeling.

Tango followed as well, his hands shoved in his pockets, his posture slightly slouched. He, however, unlike May- kept his eyes up and opened for the woman who had bumped into them. It wasn't long before he caught sight of her at a small cafe (It looked remarkably like the one he liked to frequent. Damn, he hoped he wouldn't have to share.) watching as her 'daughter' approached. Likewise- it hadn't taken the woman long to notice May.

He figured it was safe to assume the woman was displeased when he saw her mouth open, probably muttering to herself. After all, his mother only did that when she was pissed. So unless Evie was the type who talked to herself frequently, he knew he should drag May out of there fast.

"That her?" He asked, stopping in his tracks and pointing with his head. He wasn't sure if the young girl's mother would exactly see him through the throng of people. After all, she was looking at May, not himself. "She looks...pleasant." He murmured, trying to get May's attention subtly and get her the hell out of dodge.

His plan backfired when she looked up from the ground, locking eyes with the other woman. Instead of turning around like he'd hoped, she sped up her pace a bit, to walk a closer to Anastasia. He knew it wasn't in May to demand an apology. After all- May was a meek, shy woman when she wasn't on the job. She'd probably stutter out an apology, as if it were all her fault and then turn tale and run. Yet, the determined look on her face spoke volumes, and he could only scowl silently at his mother, trying to figure out what was wrong with the aforementioned female. Che~, how annoying.

Evie did not look away as the new woman approached, her face a mask of stone.

"What the ******** are you looking at," she said icily once May was within earshot. "You got a problem with me?"

"Ma," Ana said desperately. "Please, don't pick a fight."

"Stay out of my business, Anastasia."

Evie stood up, arms crossed and looking colder and more remote than a glacier.

"What do you want."
