About Ariston

______________________

It was late in the night, around 12 am. Ariston lay on his back watching the stars and trying to decipher their alignment. Part of being a Mystic was being able to read the constellations and planets. Yet he was very much out of practice. The weather man on the tv that morning called for a clear night later on and Ariston found it the perfect time to re-hone his skill.

So he had headed out to his favorite spot, the meadow, wanting the lovely quiet that came with dusk. It didn't take much to concentrate on the sky, Ariston was only too happy to sit out there for hours until he'd learned what he'd wanted.

He sighed happily and stretched. There was nothing better than stargazing.

Magali quietly made her way home. Keani had left earlier from the store and wouldn't let Magali go with her, stating she was too busy to babysit her. It hurt but Magali knew Keani did care about her, even if she didn't show it all the time.

In her own contemplating about Keani's treatment, Magali didn't notice the stargazing fox. If she had, she would have tried to avoid him and not walk so close to him.

Ariston watched the vixen quietly until she was almost on top of him. He shifted slightly, giving her warning that he was there.

"Hello," he said quietly. "Come out to do some stargazing?" he asked, curious.

"Supposedly there's supposed to be a meteor shower around one. I'm surprised that others aren't out here," he shifted onto his feet and held a paw out. "I'm Ariston."

Jumping back in alarm, Magali staired wide eyed at the male. Looking around she tried to fine out who this Ariston was talking too. Finding no one, she had to give in to the knowledge she had to talk to this strang fox without Keani around to calm her.

"Uh...uh I didn't mean to disturb you." Magali said barely above a whisper, "I wa- was just pas- passing through."

Ariston smiled warmly at the startled Vixen, trying to calm her down.

"I'm sorry," he said, his voice muted. "I didn't mean to startle you. Are you alright?"

He sat down and arranged his tail around himself.

"You're not disturbing me, actually," he motioned to the place next to him. "Would you like to sit down?"

Magali staired at the male fox trying to find any trace of deciet in his eyes before slowly nodding. Suggie kept trying to get her to talk to others more and would be disappointed if she passed up a chance to talk to a nice enough fox.

Sitting down slowly, Magali introduced herself, "I...I'm Magali. Y-you mentioned a Me-meteor shower?"

Ariston smiled and shifted slightly to give her more room.

"Magali," he repeated. "A pretty name for a pretty vixen."

He turned his gaze back up to the sky.

"Yes, supposedly there's supposed to be a meteor shower. Sometime soon actually," he pointed as a star suddenly streaked across the sky. "Look! There one goes. This must be the very start." He sighed happily as more stars becan to fall and light up the sky.

"It's amazing!" Magali whispered, her nervousness lifting a little with the flashing of the stars across the sky. It would return once she realized where she was and who she was with, but at the moment she was enjoying the stars. "They are so beautiful, I've never seen so many shooting stars before."

Ariston smiled at the vixen.

"Aren't they?" he asked happily. "In the summer you tend to get large meteor showers like this. I come out here all the time, just to watch. It's magic." He turned to look at Magali.

"Have you ever seen stars fall before?"

Magali shook her head yes, still lost in the sky above them.

"But it was only one, nothing like this."

It made her glad she hadn't left earlier from the shop, since she would have missed this amazing sight, "Will it last very long?"

Ariston smiled at Magali, happy that she found the sight as beautiful as he did.

He shrugged.

"It might last all night, or it could last another three seconds. Life is kind of funny like that. But the weather report this morning said it would probably last about two hours. Still even if it's a little on the short side, it's worth seeing. These are better falling stars than some other showers I've seen,"

Magali smiled as Airston spoke. They really were worth seeing and she couldn't believe something so beautiful happened right above them and most didn't even realize it was happening.

"I can't believe more arn't out watching this, it's amazing."

Ariston smiled and turned to Magali.

"Not many care really. After all, to them, these are just stars," he sighed and stared again at the sky. "To them, a meteor shower is just that, stars falling. They don't see it as anything else. Pretty maybe, but not enough to waste an entire evening watching. Sad really, no one seems to want to stop and smell the roses anymore. Too busy rushing everywhere. They'll miss it only when they realize that it's gone."

"Then it's their loss and our gain." Magali said, "I think the world would be a better place if more would slow down and stop to smell the roses."

Laying down on her back, Magali lost all thoughts of heading home and simply enjoyed the scene above her. Right now it didn't matter she was in the presense of a male she barely knew or that Keani would surely be upset that she wasn't home yet. The only thing that mattered was the here and now and she was going to enjoy it.

Ariston smiled.

"Yes," he remarked. "You're probably right. Do you have some place to be?" He suddenly asked. He wasn't a mind reader, but Ariston was pretty good at guessing other's thoughts. It came from being a Mystic. Something about how he was trained to read the signs of life in the world.
