Unyezi was relaxing in the warm afternoon sun. He was laying out in front of the royal den, several feet away from it so as to enjoy the sun as best he could. It was nice to just relax, the cubs were all out and about- as was Aure. Alcmene was expected to come back at almost any moment, though, having been sent on a scavenger hunt of sorts to test what she knew about the area the pride lived in. He wouldn't be surprised if she got distracted along the way, either, so he was happy to chill.

In fact, he was almost asleep. Almost.

She had woken early to collect Njiru, but for some reason her nerves had gotten the better of her, and she had ended up putting their meeting off for a few hours. But, eventually she had gathered up her courage once again and had set off to find Njiru. After finding him, she had barely given him a greeting before setting off towards the royal dens. She made sure that he was following her, and silently she evaluated him to see how his temperment was today. She did not want him messing around when serious matters were afoot. He'd probably say some snide comments to his brother that Unyezi perfectly did not deserve. She was doubtful he'd grant them the right to marry if Njiru was being particularly nasty. Sini could really only hope that her good nature and politeness would be enough to cancel out whatever impression Njiru made on Unyezi today.

The blue lioness approached the royal dens, her steps unusually slow, her body unusually tense. Yes, she was nervous - this could be the end of her life as she knew it. When she spotted Unyezi, though, she was filled with dismay. It was just her luck that he was falling asleep, but hopefully he wasn't actually asleep. She'd hate to have to come back later and go through the embarrassment that would bring. "Unyezi? Is this a bad time?" Yes, it was a bad time, but she suspected that Unyezi wouldn't turn her away. She had done nothing against the other lion (excluding trying to marry his brother).

He didn't too much sleep the night before, dreading the day that was to follow. Not only would he have the displeasure of having to see and talk to his brother, but he was getting married. Or...would be. It really depended on whatever Unyezi decided. A part of him hoped that he wouldn't allow the two to marry, but...knowing him, he probably would. Just to see Njiru squirm, if for any other reason.

Sini had come later than he expected, since she did say morning and it was already...a bit past noon when she came to drag him to Unyezi. He didn't say much of anything to her, just a greeting and some comment about having been late. Aside from that, the walk to the royal dens was a silent one. He decided the night before that there really was no point in making the marriage drag on, it'd just make things harder for him. And...it gained nothing, much to his dismay.

As they approached the den he saw his brother's figure lying down, almost asleep. He didn't allow himself to hope, though, that perhaps he was asleep and this marriage would be delayed. So he just took a seat beside Sini as she to stir the king awake.

Dozing but not asleep, and ever vigilant in waiting for Alcmene to return from the little game they were in the midst of, he was easily woken by the approaching lions. His eyes popped open and the two lions he saw before him caught him off guard- mostly because there was never a good reason for Njiru to willfully approach him. He tensed, but decided to focus on Sini instead of his brother.

"No, not at all," he reassured her with a small, though forced, smile. Feeling the formality of this little visit, he got to his feet respectfully, "What can I do for you? The two of you?"

Unyezi couldn't help but glance back at Njiru again with slight suspicion before turning his full attention once again to Sini.

She made no effort to even acknowledge that Njiru was behind her. No, there was no reason for her to think about him or talk to him at this moment. She had to focus on what it was that needed to be said. Njiru would only be a distraction, because she knew he would have something to say if she gave him the opportunity to say it. So, in her mind she made the decision to direct this little conversation and give Njiru as little opportunities to talk as possible. He just needed to show that he was a willing partner in this marriage-to-be. If he didn't need to show that to Unyezi, she wouldn't have bothered to even bring him along with her. He was just too much to handle on such serious occassions, and really, Sini could do without the extra stress that having Njiru around brought her.

She gave Unyezi an easy smile (it took a lot of effort, considering how stressed she was at the moment). Deep down, the lioness was so nervous that fleeing seemed to be the better option of the moment. Taking a few moments to calm herself down and prepare herself for what was to come next, she met Unyezi's gaze with light pink eyes. "We are here to request your approval to become married." She spoke in a strictly formal tone, her words soft and without the harsh tones she wanted to put in them. No, she was the perfect picture of a lioness who truly wanted a marriage.

With a slow turn of her head, her eyes met Njiru's, silently prompting him to speak about his willingness to become married to her.

His mind had managed to wander to this and that, mostly glad that though his eyes were directed at the two before him, he wasn't really seeing them. He was half in his daydream of blissful...take over, where he became ruler of the pride and everything else just fell into place after that. Then the word "married" was spoken, and he snapped back and blinked. At this point, Sini was looking at him, then he blinked before glancing at his brother. And his throat caught.

Was he supposed to say something? She already brought him, wouldn't that have been enough to convince Unyezi? It ought to be, but apparently...not. So with a sigh he cleared his throat. "Yeah, what she said.." he replied, then hoped that'd be that. Nothing else to say, really..

Unyezi's eyes didn't move from Sini, and he almost seemed frozen when she finally spoke up again. They were here together for approval to get married, for his blessing. Njiru. Njiru was here because he had found himself a mate.

Njiru.

The king wasn't sure immediately how to react. He almost wanted to laugh, expecting it was some kind of joke. Sini'ngozi was a respectable pride member, a trusted lioness and a priestess. She was a fine lioness, certainly- but with Njiru's vendetta against him, Unyezi had always expected if this ever happened it would be with a high classed lion so his shot at the throne became an actual possibility (though still very slim). His brown eyes went from Sini to Njiru when he confirmed the request, and then back to Sini. He couldn't help but worry a touch more about Sini in this scenario than his brother.

"You need my blessing to become married," he echoed, and realizing that no one had a very cheerful tone about all of this and so he put on a smile again.

PostPosted: Thu Jun 12, 2008 9:24 pm
An eyebrow began to arch higher and higher up on her forehead when Njiru voiced his rather 'lame' response. Really, was that all he could do, just mirror what she said? Did he not have a proper brain in his skull in which to process individual thoughts in? Sini was doubtful, really doubtful that he did. He was making it seem as if she had beaten him down into submission in order to get him to marry her, and though she had kind of forced it on him, she didn't beat him. He could have said 'no' at any moment. But, he had consented, and it was peeving her that he was seeming so sullen and empty-headed. He was showing that he didn't care, and what Unyezi needed to see was that the both of them cared about this and wanted to get married. Right now he would surely only see it from Sini.

...Well, hopefully that would be enough.

"Yes, we do need your blessing to become married, if you would be so kind to give us it." She bowed her head slightly, white-tipped bangs falling in front of her pink eyes. Sini was doing her best to appear humble and certain of her want. If Njiru failed in this area, Sini excelled. She knew how to control her emotions, she knew how to get what she wanted, though she would never use it against Unyezi. No, she would only use it to keep Njiru from becoming a truly large thorn in Unyezi's side. "We would both very much appreciate you giving us your blessing."

Their conversation continued seamlessly without him, which he was fine with. This sort of thing was like pushing a stick further and further into his eye to the point where even trying to pull it out would actually kill him. The news shocked Unyezi, no doubt, and his expression amused him somewhat. The look on the king's face, even at Njiru's slight expense, was just enough to make him get off of his a** and stand beside his (half-dreaded) soon-to-be mate. Silvery orbs caught Sini's disapproving eye, and he smirked in reply to it. She hadn't asked him to do anything but comply; her mistake.

After her last sentence, he grinned. "Right," he finally spoke up. "Well now that that's clear, do you think it'd be possible to speed things up a bit, your highness?" He slightly emphasized the formality, his grin turning into a sort of awkward smile. It felt strange, smiling at his brother. He just...couldn't do it.

It seemed like such a formal situation for a family marriage, but Unyezi would have expected nothing less from Njiru. Some happier tones would have been welcome most certainly, or so he thought up until Njiru smiled at him. Being called 'your highness' was not so strange, especially with emphasis, but the smile was awkward and not sinister. And then Unyezi realized this must be Sini's doing, for there was very little he thought that could be done to make Njiru even try to smile or be friendly with him. Unyezi had tried when they were young.

"Alright, then," he said, still smiling but now looking only at Sini (Njiru's smile was weird looking at). "You're both upper-middle class, so that is nothing to worry about."

"Njiru!" she hissed at him, apparently displeased with his attitude. They weren't going to get anything if he continued to irk his brother and edge him on. Sini could almost be certain that with the way Njiru was acting, he didn't want to get married to her. Well, she knew that he really didn't want to marry her, and that she really didn't want to marry him. But he had pledged his word, and she had pledged her's. Neither of them were going to back out of this. Their pride would not last through it, and pride seemed to be a valuable thing to herself and to Njiru. If anything, Njiru's pride was what kept the other lion functioning. Sini too functioned on pride, because she would be disgusted with herself.

She had to admit that she was a little surprised when Unyezi consented to them getting married, especially with the way Njiru was behaving. But, perhaps Sini's own good behavior was enough to encourage Unyezi to overlook Njiru's current attitude. "Thank you," she said sincerely, dipping her head slightly, white-tipped bangs falling in front of her pink eyes. "Your kindness is well appreciated." The words translated to: Thank you for putting up with Njiru for these awkward moments and ignoring his attitude.

Njiru's smirk was brought back when Unyezi turned his complete attention to Sini. It was amusing to see the king be uncomfortable, or...at least it was to him. He had ignored Sini's reaction to his words, and merely kept on with his smirk, mind completely elsewhere. There wasn't much else he could say, no doubt Sini would have his head later on for saying what he did only moments earlier. That is, if she'd be able to find him later. She'd be lucky enough to see him at the end of the day after this.

And so he sat, eyes staring blankly at Unyezi, though they were really looking past the lion's figure. He would sit through this, bored out of his mind, and speak when asked to, and then he'd be gone. Sini would be out of sight and out of mind for the rest of the day, and the two wouldn't have to suffocate each other sleeping that night because he...really wasn't planning on sleeping in the same den as her.

Quite unlike Sini's idea of what Unyezi must have been thinking about the whole situation, Unyezi was more than happy to imagine that this was hard for Njiru. Requesting the consent of your younger brother, especially when you loathed him, for something so personal certainly must have been grating on the nerves. But it was Unyezi's job, and he was happy enough to do it. He too, in the back of his mind, hoped that this would distract Njiru from his underhanded plotting of regicide.

OK, regicide might be a bit dramatic.

"I'll pass along the information to Unyenyezi," he said amicably, "I'm sure you won't forget. Congratulations, the both of you." Still smiling, he looked from Sini to Njiru (who had the oddest blank expression for the circumstances) and back to Sini.

She nodded her head slowly when Unyezi said he would pass the information on, and now was the best time to get Njiru away from the other lion. The more quickly Njiru was away from Unyezi, the least amount of damage that could be caused by the dark lion. Sini personally did not want Unyezi to think unpleasantly of her for bringing Njiru into his presence and not keeping him under control. She respected the white king, far more so than she could ever respect Njiru. The lion just sometimes plainly grated on her nerves, and there was only so much of him that she could handle before she needed her peace. Sini was most certainly not ready for the married life, probably less so than Njiru was. But, at least their mutual dislike of one another was certain to keep them separated for most of the time. Sini would somehow survive this marriage.

"Thank you," she said sweetly, completely making up for Njiru's less than agreeable mood, "for the congratulations. I hope to talk to you again, soon." That was her signal to Njiru that it was time to go, but she doubted the other lion would actually listen to her. Instead she simply walked away and removed herself from the situation. If Njiru started acting up, she wouldn't be around to take part of the blame. She was making him her problem, but that didn't mean she'd take the fall for every one of his blunders. That was not what married life meant.

Sini's words broke him out of his trance, and his eyes went from the lioness to his brother, wondering what exactly was going on. It took more than a moment for him to finally catch on, and when he finally did he stood on all fours and bowed his head slightly at his brother. "Yeah, thanks," he said, the bitterness in his voice still there, though he tried to sound genuinely grateful. He turned to leave, following a bit after Sini, with his eyes trained on her figure. "See you around.."

And with that he started walking in a different direction, mind still reeling over how he'd gotten himself into the situation. Figuring it was something only the Great Lion could ever tell him, he dropped the thought and went on to think of what he would do for the rest of the day. No....the rest of the week. ....No.......the rest of his life, married to her.
