Dustin yawned and stretched out his massive black and red wings. He had been napping most of the day underneath a willow tree in the meadow, glad for the peace and quiet. He had left the teepee early this morning after hearing a squabble break out between the two half-brothers he lived with and didn't quiet want to deal with it. He looked out over the meadow and smiled as he watched two rabbits playing near by. Life was good for the dark stallion.

Yazmina liked willows and the way they whispered when they moved. Unlike other trees that rattled or clattered their leaves together--even rustled, in a strong wind--willows sighed. They were quiet and somehow peaceful. If she'd had to pick a favorite, she might have said they were her favorite tree. Which was why she'd landed in a clearing between them and wandered now, ears swiveling to catch the sounds around her as she walked. She caught sight of a pair of rabbits playing and stepped forward faster when she saw one dart away. Now where was he going like his tail was on fire? Laughing, she ducked beneath a few willow fronds and lifted her head--only to spot the stallion. Sleeping? No, he looked to be awake. Still, if he'd come for quiet, too, her laughter might not exactly be welcome. She quieted and only bobbed her head a little by way of greeting.

The black stallion was a bit suprised at the sudden appearance of another like himself. It had been sometime since he had seen or talked to anyone other than those he lived with, let alone another who had wings and could fly. He noticed her sudden quietness upon stumbling across him and he gave her a gentle smile to let her know he was alright with her being there. It might be nice to have some company, he thought to himself. "Hello, Miss. Nice day out isn't it?" he began still smiling and hoping he would not offend.

Oh good. She hadn't bothered him by popping in unannounced. A measure of tension melted out of the way she held herself and her wings relaxed, not tucked so close against her body. She smiled back, too. "Hello," she answered. "I didn't realize there was anyone here. I hope I didn't startle you."

He chuckled at her comment and shook his head. "On the contrary. I think I was the one who startled you since you were not expecting anyone to be here." he said politely and stood up to stretch. He had forgotten how long he had been laying there and his legs were about to fall asleep. "My name is Dustin and it is a pleasure to meet you." he said and gave her his customary bow.

"I suppose you're right," she said, "but you were here first." Which wasn't really the point, was it? She dipped her head again in answer to the bow and said, "My name is Yazmina. It's nice to meet you, Dustin." She looked around a bit before her glance went back to him. "Were you just resting?"

Dustin shrugged his shoulders. In all honesty, he hadn't been the one here first. "I wasn't really the first one here. Technically the tree and and rabbits where. I am just a guest here in this peace." he said looking about. This was his first time in this place. He had found it one day while flying over head and decided he would have to come back and check it out and today was that day. "I wasn't really resting. Just trying to escape the high activity that goes on at the teepee where I live. It gets to be too much sometimes with everyone there."

He had a point and she nodded. "Of course the trees were here first, but they don't usually mind the company, I think." Curiosity made her ears p***k forward. "Do you have a large herd?"

He chucked. "I don't think the trees really mind the company either." he replied and was amused at her curiosity about his herd. He never really thought of it as his. "You could say that it is large. There is myself and seven others. Five of which are related." he replied and then curiosity of his own caught him. "What about yourself? Do you have such a large herd?"

"Seven and you so...eight? That is quite a few." It was from her viewpoint, at least. She hadn't run in to any of the larger herds yet. "Oh, no." She shook her head. "There are only three of us, and none of us related."

"Yes, it is quite a few and so there is plenty going on. Hence why I am here instead of back there." he said and smiled at her. He had never had a herd before coming across the one he was in. It was big from the start and so he could not imagine what it was like living with only two others whom you were not related. His expierence was either him alone or surrounded by many others. "Three is a deicent size, I imagine. Never had anything smaller than seven other than being alone."

"It must get very loud," she offered. "And confusing sometimes. I don't blame you for being here. I think I'd be here too." She smiled at him. "It's a decent size. Not too big, not too small. It must be hard to go anywhere with eight."

"It does get rather loud sometimes when they yare argueing. But Settia steps in and handles it. She is the eldest of the herd and sort of the one in charge." he said and stretched his wings one by one before folding them neatly on his back again. "We really don't travel as a herd. Settia sometimes goes out with her son, her two grandsons and great grandson and its usually to visit family. She has a pretty large family from what I've heard. Never really met them except for the ones who I live with."

"Then they're not yours? Your mate or children or anything?" Her ear twitched and she resettled her wings again. "I apologize if that was rude, but with that many, it seemed to me that they'd be your family too."

Dustin chuckled as it would only be natural for one to assume that with a herd so large some of them would have to be related to him. "It was not rude at all. No need to appologize." he said with a gentle smile to let her know her question was okay with him. "I am not related to anyone in my herd. I have no mate or children. To be truthful, I have never really had a family. My mother was murdered when I was very young, right in front of me. I don't remember much about the whole incident or much before it. I just know what my name is and that I did have a mother. From then on I pretty much lived on my own and survived day to day. I pretty much joined this herd out of something to do and for the experience." he told her, for what reason, he did not know. It wasn't like he was ashamed of his past or afraid of it. It was just that, his past and there wasn't anything he could do to change it.
