About Taelence

______________________

Taelence sat at the edge of the lake and fidgeted. It had been four days since her horrible confession, four days since she'd broken Teles's heart, four days since Teles refused to leave her permanently, and four days since Teles had left to sort things out in her heart.

Four long excruciating days.

Tael had sorted out her own feelings as well.

She loved Teles. She always would. But she was with Cho and she didn't plan on changing that.

She was not going to give up the closeness that she and Teles shared. The snuggling, cuddling, and otherwise comfort touches would continue because Tael knew she could not live without Teles's closeness.

She was going to help Teles find someone else. The fact that she already had someone in mind wouldn't be brought up because, quite frankly, Teles would probably kill her.

She sat watching the pathway Teles had taken when she left. That had been hard, very hard. The only consolation was that Teles would be coming back. Still Tael had gone to see Cho afterwards and had cried herself to sleep in his paws.

Today was the day Teles had said she was coming back and Taelence had gotten up with the sun and had been sitting out here all day.

I'll kill her if she doesn't come home today, she thought firmly. Better yet, I'll go looking for her and then kill her.

Teles where are you?

Ariston sat in the bushes, waiting for Taelence's signal. She had dragged him all the way out here to meet a friend of hers, whom had apparently left for a couple of days. Taelence hadn't elaborated and Ariston hadn't asked. He was however a little peeved at being led out here at the crack of dawn and been told to wait for the rest of the day.

He shifted a bit, trying to get comfortable.

I hope this friend of hers gets here soon, he thought. I'm getting hungry.

But while Ariston might complain, he really didn't mind. He'd do just about anything for Taelence; she'd offered him a place to live and for that he was eternally grateful. And then getting to know her had formed a Brotherly and Sisterly bond that was hard to break and harder to ignore. He'd come to care for Taelence, to want to protect her and keep her safe. Just as he had felt about his Brothers and Sisters before they chose to leave home.

And so he found himself crouched in the bushes since dawn, not really able to protest and not really caring to anyways.

The past four days had been somewhat of an emotional meltdown for Teles...and the weather had seemed to reflect that at the place she'd been. At least now she was close to home.

Her azure eyes stared semi-blankly at the ground she was treading upon as she walked. She was looking a bit rough around the edges. Four days in the wilderness away from everything would do that to a kit, regardless of how clean they kept themselves. Her long tail was lightly dragging behind her in the dirt and her ears were drooping to the side lightly in her dejection.

Surely after four days she would have felt better?

The truth was, Teles knew it would take a lot longer than four days for her to be more like herself again, but she couldn't let Taelence see her so...so off. Still, she had a good walk before she was even in sight of the place she had departed, so she still had plenty of time to perk herself up.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
It was early afternoon when she rounded a bend in the road, and just before that she'd lifted her tail and somehow put a light spring in her step, ears perking forwards and her eyes coming up.
There was no way she was going to let Tael see her as she had been walking back. Sure, she still looked a bit rough still, but at least looking like she was feeling okay would perhaps null her outward appearance. She smiled as she saw the white, hibiscus flowered kit standing stark still and seemingly intently gazing down the path. Teles flicked an ear forwards, the other in a more relaxed, but upright, pose. It definitely wouldn't be longer than a few seconds before she was spotted.
Teles was right. Taelence had spotted Teles and was running full tilt towards her. She'd missed the charcoal colored vixen so much!
"TELES!" she cried out happily as she collided with her friend. Tael laughed and snuggled her friend until she was sure that it really was Teles and then let her up. She brushed twigs and leaves out of Teles's fur and then looked her up and down.
"Teles, you look like hell," she said unflinchingly. It was true. Teles could try all she wanted to look happy and perky, but Tael knew her better. Teles was, for all intensive purposes, miserable.
My fault. My fault. My fault. All my fault, the steady chant started up in Tael's head. She pushed it away, trying not to let Teles see it on her face. While Tael knew that she had sorted out her feelings, that hadn't made the pain, or the guilt for that matter, go away.
Something we're both going to have to deal with, she thought.
"You need a bath," Tael said, nudging Teles towards the path that would take them to the hot springs. "A nice long hot bath."
Ariston watched as Taelence collided with a charcoal colored fox. Teles, Taelence had called her. This was the vixen Taelence had wanted him to meet.
She's pretty, he thought. Taelence just wants me to talk to her. Well now I can see why.
The vixen was a mess and Ariston winced when Taelence said as much.
I won't be able to help her though if she refuses to talk to me, he mused. I don't work like that.
He got up quietly and followed them in the underbrush as they took the path to the hot springs.
The squeal could have been heard for quite a distance. And it made Teles wince and grin at the same time, before she was bowled over by her beloved friend.
"Eeeeeeek~! Tael!" She squeaked, but was more than happy to nuzzle into Tael's familiar fur and lightly fluff her friends fur, trying not to mess it up at all. She was flat on her back and when Tael got off, she slowly sat up and shook the dust and dirt from her fur.
Her friend's blunt statement had the kit pinning her ears back and caused her eyes to stare at the ground beneath her paws. After a moment, she glanced up at Taelence and sidled over to her friend, nuzzling her cheek. Her eyes clearly held her emotions, and Teles could see she still felt guilty as hell. Her ears had perked up somewhat, but immediately flattened at the mention of a bath.
Of course, they perked back up when she mentioned it was a hot bath.
"Tael, I think you should join me~ It'd be a nice way to just spend time with each other, considering I have been gone four days." She murmured to her friend, walking along and needing no assistance. She hadn't really been to the hotsprings yet, as most times she either groomed herself clean or found a good pond or brook to clean herself in.
The steam rising off the pools looked lovely, and no matter what Tael said in response, she'd be going in...willingly or not. Still, she got close to the edge and sat down, flicking her tail in front of her so she could pull out the remainder of the grit lodged between the strands of fur. Once that was done she rubbed her paw vigorously against her face, scratching a small itch.
She felt more relaxed now that she was 'home', with the kit she loved dearly, but couldn't have. She'd kind of come to terms with it over the past four days, but not fully.
Heaving a sigh, she padded into the hot spring, rolling her eyes from the sheer pleasure of the hot water easing away the aches in her muscles. Oh, it was heavenly~
"Why didn't I know there was a hot springs here before?" She questioned Tael, sinking up to her jaw in the hot water. It felt so damn good she could have fallen asleep if she wasn't so wide awake.
Taelence buried her face in Teles's fur for a moment. Teles was a comfort Tael had dearly missed. She finally pulled herself away and followed Teles to the hot springs.
This is something we'll be fighting for our whole lives isn't it? she thought. Was it better then to give into temptation? Tael didn't have an answer to that.
She watched as Teles stepped into the springs and settled. She giggled at Teles's expression of surprise and pleasure. The giggle, however, turned into a wicked grin. Tael took a running leap and splashed into the hot springs. She came up laughing and spouting hot water all over the place.
"Why?" she repeated and then blushed furiously. "Well it has a sort of reputation.......for couples........and what they like to do here."
She turned her face away and bit the bottom of her lip. Then she laughed.
"I guess it's a good thing that these springs self filter themselves. Who knows what we'd be swimming in!"
Ariston watched silently from the bushes. He didn't know when Taelence would call on him. So as much as he wanted to give them their space, he couldn't. He stared at the charcoal colored vixen.
There was something about her, that he just couldn't quite put his paw on. It was almost as if she was familiar some how.....
Ariston shook his head. Whatever she was, he wasn't going to figure it out by staring at her. The only way he would find out would be to talk to her. And he couldn't do that until Taelence called him out, so it was a moot point anyways. Ariston settled down to wait.
Teles pinned her ears and closed her eyes as Taelence made her spunky entrance into the hot springs. When her friend came up, Teles opened her eyes and laughed before shoving a small wave of water at her with her front paws.
"You're silly."
And yet when Tael answered her question, Teles looked at the water she was in with a look that was boardering disgust.
'Ewwwww...' She thought, wondering just what they were swimming in, however, the thought and look faded as Tael explained that the spring was also filtered through its own natural ways. At that, she relaxed again, head tilting before she paddled her way over to Tael.
'...couples' spot... Does that mean..? No, Tael wouldn't have done that to Chocolate.'
At that first spark of thought, Teles had felt a quick crest of hope before it fell once more. This little visit to the springs was for cleaning and relaxing...but it didn't mean that Tael and Teles couldn't play with their familiar antics.
Teles nuzzled Tael with a slight, devious grin, slapping her tail wetly against the water's surface. That was, of course, before she lightly dunked her friend under the water with a yip, using both paws to hold her down for just a couple seconds before she let her friend up and swam away with a peal of laughter.
She turned back to watch her water-logged friend and scrubbed at her face with her paws, giggling lightly.
"Oh, Tael, I missed you~"
Taelence struggled as Teles pushed her under then popped up laughing when Teles let her go.
But the look Teles had given Tael the moment she'd heard the words 'couples spot' had cut. It had cut deeply.
The chant in her head began again.
I can't help what I chose! she thought desperately. I tried to make this as painless as possible for us all. And I'm still ******** up.
But she slapped on a brave face, and smiled.
"I missed you too Teles," she smirked. "I think I drove everyone crazy when you left." She slapped the water with her tail.
Ariston settled down and closed his eyes. Taelence would come and get him when he was needed. Other wise, he didn't see the need to bother them by spying. So without further ado, he began to doze.
"Well, I'm back now, so you can just drive me crazy, Tael~" Teles snirked at her friend, paddling over to n** at her cream and orange ear. "And cheer up, I'm back. Don't make me dunk you again."
Wily as ever, Teles smirked and tossed her head, nudging at Tael with her forepaws. She was desperately trying to turn their situation into a more relaxed and happy one right here and now, even if she didn't feel the best herself.
With a yip, she dove under the water and underneath her friend, flipping to paw at Tael's stomach before popping out of the water on the other side with a bark of laughter. Simple things like this made her feel lighter emotionally and made her relax more.
Tael grinned wickedly.
"Are you sure you want me to do that Teles?" she asked seriously. "I mean....driving Crimson crazy is one thing....but there are so many evil things I could do to you." She giggled. Not that she would ever do anything to Teles but the threat was still funny.
She laughed as Teles dived under her and tickled her belly. She in turn dove and swam around Teles's submerged half, tickling her with her tail. She popped back up and sprayed a mouthful of water at the vixen. She grinned, seeing her expression.
"Teles you're already wet. What's a little bit more water going to harm?" she said as she slapped her tail against the water, hard.
Ariston flicked an ear. He was still listening to the two vixens, but he wasn't watching. He didn't need to.
She's so familiar, he thought. I know her....why do I know her?
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
It was a steady chant in his head as he dozed.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2008 11:40 pm
"Just remember that turnabout is fair play then, Tael~" Teles said quirkily, a dark look overcoming her features to match Tael's wicked grin.
Teles couldn't help but laugh and then stick her head back under the water to watch Tael as she was tickled in a bout of revenge. And when she brought her head back up, she was promptly sprayed in the face. For several moments, all she could do was stare in shock before Tael's words snapped her out of her semi-daze and she pushed several sprays of water into Tael's face.
"Take that~!" She squealed, laughing all the while.
Smiling in a way that offered peace, she swam up to her friend and nuzzled her briefly before turning and padding away, her tail floating lazily behind her like a serpent on the water.
"I think all this play has gotten me sufficiently clean, Tael. I don't have any soaps or anything, but I feel...better." She said decidedly as she clambered out of the water, shaking every inch of her lithe body briskly to rid herself of all the water droplets before trotting a couple feet away and sitting on her haunches, sticking a back leg out so she could begin to set her fur back into its rightful place after four days of being mussed.
Taelence shrieked as Teles splashed her with more water. She grinned and splashed a little back before she watched Teles get out of the springs. She sighed and eyed the hot water longingly before getting out herself. She quietly padded over to Teles and started to right the charcoal colored vixen's fur straight as well.
Anyone who didn't understand the scene before then would have assumed that Tael was cheating on Cho. But being that Teles and Tael were the best of friends and practically family as well, cleaning each other's fur wasn't a big deal. Tael worked on Tele's shoulders, neck, and back before moving on to herself.
"The only reason I hate getting wet," she proclaimed. "Is having to put my fur back into a comfortable position when I'm done. It's such a pain."
She grinned and went back to straightening out her fur.
All most time, she thought. I've seen Teles. Talked with her. I'll have to leave soon. I don't particularly want to be here when the s**t hits the fan.
She grimaced for a moment.
Teles isn't going to be happy with me.
Ariston heard the two vixens getting out of the water and tried to shake the sleep off. It wouldn't be long now. And from what Taelence had told him, he would need to keep his wits about him in dealing with Teles.
He sighed.
What fun this will be, he thought.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 15, 2008 9:25 pm
The social-sort of grooming was relaxing...and, Teles could admit, felt pretty darn good. So when she had finished her own fur, she moved over to Taelence to return the favour, even using her paws to straighten out some of the more tangled strands.
"It's nice to have someone else around to reach the tricky places, though." Teles snirked, grinning at her friend with a gleam to her eye. Bonding time, it seemed, was a good thing for both of them...and Teles didn't find herself too jealous of Cho for most likely getting the same treatment. They were a couple, after all.
With a small snicker, Teles batted at Tael's pristine white tail, enjoying playing with the fluffy fur as she lay upon her stomach.
"So, what have you done these past four days, aside from driving everyone else crazy?"
Taelence relished Teles's attention to her fur. The difference between having a male groom you and a female was that a female alway knew exactly where to groom. Tael smiled at Teles.
"Always nice to have someone reach those places. A dreadful pain to have to do them yourself," she slipped her tail out of Teles's grasp, grinning. "Teles, don't you know by now to leave my tail alone?" She asked.
She caught her breath for a moment.
What have I been doing? she thought. This is probably the moment to mention it. But...the moment I do...I'll be giving up Teles for good. Can I do that? Do I want to?
Tael looked at Teles. The answer was simple enough. She couldn't keep Teles from true happiness anymore. If that meant giving her to someone else, well Tael would just have to deal with that.
"Actually," she said slowly. "I've been up to something quite interesting, actually. You remember me mentioning that Crimson was up to something?" She asked. "She was up to something...and so was I." She hesitated but strove on.
"We've added a new member to the household,"
Ariston sat up. It wouldn't be long now. He'd only have to wait until Taelence called him out of hiding. And then it would be all up to Fate.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 15, 2008 10:13 pm
"No. And besides, your tail is too pretty to resist~!" Teles squeaked lightly and tried to batter the tip as Tael removed her tail from Teles' range. She pouted a moment before a grin took its place as she looked at her friend.
She yawned lazily, watching Tael through half-lidded eyes, concerned about her friend's sudden silence and look of uncertainty. When she began, Teles nodded, still wondering just what Crimson had been up to before Tael let the kit out of the bag.
"A new member of the family? Do you mean that Crimson adopted Cho...?" Teles asked, flicking her ears this way and that in confusion. "Was that why you didn't want to mention anything, Taelence..?"
Of course, there was an alternative. Crimson might have adopted a kit or something...or she could have adopted another male and... Teles' eyes grew wide, though she had already dismissed the idea earlier... Was Teles separating with Cho and this new kit was her new mate?! Surely Taelence wouldn't do that to Chocolate?
And where did that leave Teles again?
'No, no... Calm down. If Tael and Chocolate were already together and were still together when Crimson was bustling about, then that's not the case.' Satisfied her thoughts made sense, she sighed lightly, expression finally clearing.
"Look, Tael, if Crimson adopted Chocolate, it's fine~ It's a big deal, but you didn't have to keep it from me." She murmured with a small grin.
Taelence smirked.
"Well please do resist," she said with a smile. But the smile drooped as a play of emotions played across Teles's face. But when she finally heard the conclusion of those thoughts, Tael could hardly contain her giggles.
"Teles...that's not exactly what I meant," she said with a grin. But she hauled herself up and walked towards the bushes.
Better now than never.
There were voices and a rustling and finally Taelence emerged with another fox tailing behind her. Or to be more precise, a male fox.
He was handsome, there was no doubt about that. His coat sparkled faintly like stars and he had a warmth in his eyes that not many had. He was the type to listen to anything you had to say and you knew he'd never judge you for any of it.
Taelence turned to Teles and gestured to the male fox.
"Teles, this is Ariston," she smiled at him. "My foster brother."
Ariston looked up as Taelence peeked into the bushes. He got up as she said:
"Time to go, Ariston,"
So he had followed her out into the open and had stood there as Taelence had introduced him. He was able to get a closer look at Teles then.
Oh yes, he'd thought. She's beautiful. And in pain. It's obvious...
But he bowed his head slightly to the charcoal colored vixen and said in a very pleasingly deep voice:
"Lovely to make your acquaintance Lady Teles. As Taelence has just said, I am Ariston,"
