The little golden foal had managed to wander away from his pestilent family and had taken to exploring the surroundings on his own. It was a rather lovely spring afternoon. There was a nice break from the recent rains, and the grass was nice and springy.

He had no specific destination in mind. He figured he would just wander around, and see where he ended up. That was how he usually got places. But now he didn't have his mother following him around, and his brother wasn't buzzing in his ear.

He sighed and stopped under a tree where a bird was leaning over its nest, apparently feeding its squealing young. He sometimes wished his mother was more nourishing. It seemed as though she didn't want him around most times. Almost as though she wished she never became a mother. But he couldn't do anything about it. He needed her, and he took what he could get.

Yvette loved the spring; it was full of life and everything good and calming. He was not the kind of soquili that burst out into a run whenever they could during this season; he loved to just... soak in the surroundings and just enjoy everything that had to do with life.

Currently he had his head in some flowers. Well, no, not exactly, he was enjoying the colours and the scents that he could pick up, the blues and golds so much different from his bright red, dark black parts of his pelt, green eyes dancing around the ground. He was much different emotionally, than how he looked, he was told.

Hearing the sound of another living being within his area, he lifted his head to peer around, catching sight of a colt meandering around him. Smiling broadly, he turned his body towards the little one, his curled tail swishing back and forth slowly. "Hello over there, care to have some company?"

Shen came out of his personal thoughts at the sound of another's voice. He turned his head, looking around to try and find the source of the voice. When he spotted a stallion a small distance away, he tilted his head. This was indeed a strange looking stallion. He had seen a red on his brother, but never colours like this before. He merely stood there for a moment before speaking.

"Hello. What is that on your face."

He had never seen anybody wear something like that on their face before. But then again, the only others he had met had been his brother and his mother. We all others this different from him and his family?

The question was pretty quick to the point, and for a moment it had dumbfounded the Stallion, green eyes looking at the foal for a moment as his mind cleared up, before a soft smile spread across his maw. What an interesting question; usually it was "What's sticking out of your head mister..?" A breath of fresh air.

"These little things?" he asked, obscuring his vision so he could look at them, making an amusing face as he attempted. "Glasses, spectacles, I think is another word for them. They make it easier for me to regard this world. Without them, I can't appreciate everything well, the world is pretty blurry. Made for a harsh foalhood." He answered elequently, but always smiling a nd trying to make it sounds natural. Why rob someone of worldy knowledge?

"What brings you to this little field in the vast forests, if I may exchange your question for one of my own?"

Shen nodded his head in understanding.

"Ah, I see. So you see better with them, then. That is very interesting I've never seen anything like it before."

He smile lightly and considered the stallion's question. It was a pretty good one, and Shen had to think of how he would like to answer it.

"Well, I suppose I wanted to get away from my family for a bit. They can both be quite bothersome at times, and I finally slipped away from them, and I guess I seized the moment. So I set out to do a little exploring. Then I discovered a mother bird in this tree, and I was thinking of how nice it would be if my mother was as nourishing and kind as this bird was to her children."

He smiled faintly and looked back upward at the bird at her nest, still feeding her children. When he looked back at the stallion, he noticed something else different about his appearance. He had horns coming out of his head. While this was not all together new to the foal, as he, his brother, and his mother had horns, it was slightly different, because there were two, and they were in a different place.

"And what about those horns? It seems they have grown from the wrong spot, and that you have an extra one..."

It was refreshing to Vette to find such an intellegent little bit of company for this quiet day, the words coming from the foal's mouth holding merit and genuine curiosity and thirst for knowledge. "It's a family thing for me, my father before me had terrible eyesight, also. I think I am safe to say that it is a rarity in our great forests, though." He answered the colt's regard for his glasses. It was few and far between when he met another Soquili who held the same type of glass on their muzzle - only one other where he rested his hooves.

Upon hearing the reason that his little acquaintance had fled his home for, the larger stallion took a few steps forward to view the birds in the tree he had stopped at, green eyes reflecting his soft smile. "Ah, new life is always very wonderful to stumble on." he started, before looking down to the colt. "But did you not know, that when a mother bird knows her children are old enough, she flies away and watches them grow? Sometimes you need a little space to find yourself." he finished, never missing a beat, as if just recanting something he had heard. Yvette's family had never been very close, so the whole tight-knit relationship with members idea had been foreign to him.

After a moment's silence, the stallion gave a hearty, and yet soft chuckle, before nodding to the youth. "Yes, I'm well aware of my horns - another attribute from my father - who is part Kalona. I'm not where near as clear blooded as he, I only have bits and pieces of his heritage, and they're firmly attached to the back of my head."

Shen listened as the other stallion explained how he had his father's features. The glasses were indeed a very interesting feature and he believed him when he called it a rarity.

He also listened to the information the stallion had to give him about the birds. It was interesting to learn about the birds' customs, but he wasn't sure if the stallion was trying to make him feel better about his mother. He didn't entirely compare the bird to his mother.

"Well, that's fine, but I don't blame my mother too much. I know that she didn't want to have children. My brother and I were an accident. She's told us that, and I can understand that. I just sometimes wish she was more nurturing. She pretty much ignores me most of the time."

He yawned and took in more information about the stallion's father.

"Kalona? What is that? I think I've heard of it before, but I'm not entirely sure what it is."

He was rather enjoying the company of Yvette. He was glad he had met him today.

[ XD Sorry about the long wait! ]

"You look very well off, at least, little one," he stated curtly, looking the foal over once, not seeing any detriment on the smaller one's appearance. "She is probably just unsure how to raise foals, one who is so used to her own life. But I cannot judge another if I have not met them; that would be cruel." he finished that train of thought; the darker spot on the back of his mind nagged him slightly about his sense of kinship with all the creatures around him. He was so bloody soft, it told him - but Yvette had taught himself to shun out his darker heritage as a foal; no one appreciates a sharp tongue.

"Do you have siblings, at least?" he wondered out loud, apparently curious about his new little friend.

Hearing the conversation change back to his horns, he shook his head a bit subconsciously, smiling softly down to the rich coloured foal, before answering the question is a more serious tone - but nothing to darken his light voice. "Kalonas..." he began, "I haven't had too many experiences with them first hand; those in my family are only part and half blooded, and I don't know my grand-father as well as I should, but from what I've heard in stories and tell-alls from others, they're a race of Soquili, as we are, but hold a vindictive streak about everything." He paused.

"I've always assumed one stayed away from the Kalona, since they always sound so.. aggressive. Like demons." He finished, a curt frown was left on his face, as if he were still thinking deeply about that subject; it seemed so touch and go.

((No worries. I've been slow on replies lately, too.))

He nodded his head lightly at the next question.

"Yes, I do have one brother, named Huojin. He looks nothing like my mother and I, though. I assume he gets his looks from the father that my mother thinks doesn't exist. You see...I believe there might be something wrong with her. She seems to delude herself a lot and she has convinced herself that we have no father. But I know that can't be true. I only hope that I'll be able to meet him one day."

He sighed, thinking of his father. Wondering what he might look like, what he acted like, and what he might be doing right now. He brought his attention back to Yvette when he started to explain Kalonas. They sounded horrible. They must be, if he was comparing them to demons.

"That sounds horrible. But at least you're not like that. By your manner, and your description of how Kalonas act, it's hard to believe that you have any Kalona blood in you at all."

He smiled kindly at the stallion.
