Best solo class is Warlock. They're made to be better at soloing stuff.
Hunters are fun and are really powerful in battlegrounds PVP. They aren't quite as good in arenas, but they can be good if you're a good player.
If you want a class that is really good in PVP right now I would choose either warrior or druid. Both are overrepresented in arenas at the moment, and work well with a lot of different combinations of classes.

...well if you're not competitive then yea go belf for hunter...but you should honestly be deciding between orc or troll.
Also, where the hell are you basing your facts off of Ketay about hunters in arena? A mm, survival or hybrid of the two hunter is deadly in high level arena brackets. They've got enough cc to screw anyone.
Also, based on my encounters and experiences in bg and arena I'd say that the bm spec is a waste of time. Yea sure you've got that stun and you can't be cc'd...but you rely on your pet, you lose your pet and you're useless.
But if you're not competitive and don't care about racials and what races are best with which classes....then do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

I wouldn't recommend rolling a class based on how well they do in pvp, blizzard is constantly shifting balances in the game. Here's a summed up guide for rolling a new character:
First, pick a roll you want to fulfill (tank/healer/spellcaster/melee)
Then, pick your favorite class that will allow you to fulfill that roll.
Then, pick your favorite race, based on either stats or looks, that can be that class.
Nothing else is that important. Do your research on the classes, too--specific, in-depth information can be found on wowwiki, as well as an overview. The official site is a broad, outdated overview, and you can check out your class's weaknesses by seeing what people are QQing about on the official class forums.
