Oh, the sweet sounds of summer. Birds chirping, leaves rustling in the refreshing breeze, it seemed like there couldn't be a better time in the world. Then again, Dichali hadn't experienced anything else.

It was early morning, and the newly matured stallion decided to see if anything seemed different. To his surprise, not much did. Everything was just... Smaller. The grass seemed further away when he bent down to eat, the butterflies seemed to move more slowly, but none of that bothered him. Only one thing really made him upset; throughout his entire childhood, he hadn't met any friends. Nobody to share the pleasures of life with, and nobody to tell secrets with or play tag. But he was determined to change that. Surely there was somebody in this big world who'd be willing to chum with a rambling stud, right?

Sevati twinkled along, fluttering in her smallest form a way above the nodding heads of flower blooms. Her wings, mane and tail adornments sparkled in the sunlight, and she flew along with a smile on her face and a jaunt in her flight.

She started flying a little faster, loving the feel of the wind blowing through her crimped mane and dived low to the ground, pulling up just in time so that her dainty hooves didnt drag on the floor. Once up above the tops of the tall grass again, she carried on her way, looking around as she fluttered.

She spied the stallion from a distance, cool blue, his mane and tail standing out starkly against his body because of how different the colouration was. Sevati flew over to him, hovering nearby and gave a bright greeting;
'Hey there!'

Dichali was slightly alarmed by the voice that seemingly came from nowhere. Once he realized the small figure not to far from him, he grinned. "Why, hello, Miss! What a lovely sight to add to such a lovely morning!" His flattery was unintentional, and kind of corny, but he meant it. This was the first Soquili he'd ever spoken to that wasn't family, and he was thrilled to finally meet somebody new.

He fluttered his wings gently while watching her, wishing he'd learned how to use them. But even more, the stallion wished he knew what to talk about. Surely they would find something? The weather, perhaps? It was lovely weather, but he knew it was a cliche. What was there to talk about? He was mind-boggled.

'Well thank you!' Sevati chirped, as she made a little loop in the air not far from where the stallion was standing. As with everything, her voice got a little smaller, higher in pitch and so she decided to land, dropping into the long grass a ways from him and changed, a shimmer in the air as she grew into a mare that was about a head shorter than he was.

'That's better, I don't sound so mouse-like now.' she giggled, dipping her head, the waves falling across her face until she flicked her head straight.

'And what is your name? I am called Sevati.' she smiled warmly at him, still all a glitter and lightness in body and spirit.

Dichali's eyes widened as the mare grew larger. He shook his head and took a better look to reassure himself that he wasn't seeing things. Only when she spoke did he stop staring.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Sevati. I'm called Dichali. But, if you don't mind he asking..." The stallion pondered for a moment, examining her once more. "H-how did you do that, Miss?"

'Hmm? Oh that! Well..I just can.' Sevati flicked a look at the stallion's wings.

'You can't do that? Are you not a flutter like I am then?'
The mare knew there were other winged types of Soquili, but his wings looked delicate enough to be a flutter as she was.

'It's just something we can do. We can fly around in the tiny form, but when we land we have to be big. Well, it's nice to meet you Dichali.' she smiled in an encouraging way at the stallion, he seemed a little nervous or something.

'Are you having a good day Dichali?' she asked.

"I am a flutter, I just..." He looked away, rather embarassed. "Well, I haven't quite learned how to fly, so I wouldn't know much about the tiny form." Dichali's face grew warm as he blushed. "But I am learning, I suppose."

A smile took the place of the pink blush as he answered. "So far, a very good day. Thank you for asking. Is your day going as well as mine, Miss Sevati?"

'Did your family not teach you to fly at all? I know I practiced from when I was a filly.' Sevati's wings moved back and forth in a fanning motion. She loved to fly, loved the freedom and the view from up on high.

'Do you find you get much lift when you do try?' she asked, moving a little closer and examining his wings. They didn't have the span of hers but much of what they did was magic so she supposed it didn't matter greatly.

She nodded;
'Yes I am, it would be hard for me to have a bad day though,' she giggled at Dichali.
'I'm a bright little mare, sometimes a little too much - I'm not being too much for you?' she asked, a smile on her face.

His... Family? He couldn't help but chuckle. "Well, my family adopted me when I was still in my basket. Neither of my 'parents' have wings like mine. My father's got wings, but they're like a bird's wings, which we found out function much differently than mine."

Dichali thought for a moment. Lift? What was that? "I don't believe I do... But I wouldn't exactly know. I haven't tried in a while."

A bright little mare, indeed! he thought to himself.
"I don't believe you're being too much. If you were, wouldn't I have made up a silly excuse and left by now?" The stallion grinned at her. It was hard not to.

'Really? Well I think it's virtually the same thing, I am pretty sure that those with wings of feather have a little help in getting lift as we do. We are after all slightly large to be whizzing around as easy as we do.' Sevati giggled, fluttering her wings again.

'Do you want to try again? There really is nothing like flying, you should learn as soon as you're able. You might find it easier to do so if you go small too.'

Sevati grinned back at him;
'Would you really have left? You seem to enjoy talking to me, and so I would assume you'd want company.' she teased him a little, and flicked her crimped mane in a dramatic fashion.

'But if you wish to leave me, then go! Go now!' Sevati made a flicking motion with a wing as though shooing him away before she dissolved into giggles again, tapping a hoof on the floor in her merriment.

"Well, from what I could see, feathered wings are good for soaring, while our wings are good for... Well, fluttering." Dichali chuckled and fluttered his own wings.

He tilted his head slightly to the side. "Go... small? How, exactly, would one go about doing that?" The stallion really was unsure about a lot of things when it came to flutters and their nature. He was raised as an average wingless foal after his 'father' had given up on teaching him how to fly.

"Well if you really want me gone, just say the word. I'll go right now! I mean it!" He slapped on the most serious face he could muster, but it was ruined when the mare went into her giggle fit. Dichali chuckled with her, glad to have found such cheerful company.

'I still think it's virtually the same, we both do what only the birds and insects should after all.' Sevati smiled, tilting her head and watching his wings fluttering. She fluttered hers in return.

'I..you know, I really never thought about how I do it. I just can, and know I can, and when I think of being small, I become small. Have you ever tried before?' she asked, before giggling again as he joked in the same manner that she had just done.

'Really? No. You're my first friend! And I wish to teach you how to fly, and do everything that's in your fluttery nature.' she smiled encouragingly.
'Well, I mean, if you want me to of course?'

"Insects?" He gasped and began to prance around her in a childish fashion. "We're like bugs! Bugs, I say! Bugs! We're like mosquitos and dragonflies and all of those creepy crawlies! Oh, what has this world come to?!" Dichali chuckled in spite of himself, and grinned anyway.

"Well, I never really knew our kind could do such a thing. If anybody had told me that before I actually saw it, I'd probably have laughed at them." He nodded, and pawed at the ground.

"First friend? Ha! Why surely you've met others you get along with than silly old me? And flying is just an illusion, see? The stallion jumped into the air, gravity quickly taking its place as he landed back on the ground. "I don't even need wings. It's just that wings tend to help a little." Chuckling, he added, "I'd love for you to teach me. It is getting kind of hard to convince others that jumping in the air is flying." He pouted playfully at her.

Sevati gave him a funny look, as if wondering if there was something loose in the stallion's head.
'Well,' she replied, choosing her words with tact and an accompanying smile.
'I don't quite think we are like bugs, do you think I look creepy? We are butterflies if anything.'
She nodded after her words for emphasis.

'Really? I think you should try..just sort of, know you can do it, think small!' she encouraged. Getting him to go small was the first step before flying lessons, so if he could do that then flying would hopefully be a little easier.

'If you do that first, then I will start to teach you.' she shook her head finally addressing his question about friends.
'I didn't live here originally, I moved after I became an adult, just drifted around until arriving in this area. You are really the first I have met.'

Dichali looked back at his own wings, and shook his head. "Maybe you're like a butterfly... Mine are more like a dragonfly's wings. Or a different insect, anyway." He fluttered them as if shrugging.

"Really? Well I'm sorry that the first other you've had to meet was a stallion as goofy as me." He chuckled lightly.

"So, all I have to do is... Think small?" He thought it was an odd way of learning, but closed his eyes and tried to think of the smallest thing he could; a ladybug. After a while, he opened an eye. "Anything happen yet?"
