The day began as any other. Mahavir rose with the sun and foraged for a berry or two as several blue birds danced overhead. He shot them an angry glare when one brave bird tried to run away with some of his hair. I just had to have long flowy hair... Mahavir thought, grumbling. Even though the sun was bright and the air was clean, Mahavir's mood was still sour. Needless to say he's the exact opposite of a morning person. But in order to get to his next destination, Mahavir needed every ounce of daylight. So with a quick flick of his hair, Mahavir bid these bright lands good-bye and started north.

Huff, huff, arrrgh!

With a louder thump than necessary, Mahavir plopped himself to the ground. Nearly half the day was gone and he seemed to be heading nowhere. Mahavir couldn't be sure, but he might have passed the same rock 4 times! A small furry animal had told him a lake stood to the north, but it was pretty apparent there was no lake. In fact, it was a desert. Embarrassed at having been tricked by a small rodent, Mahavir decided it was best to go another direction. But which one? Looking over his shoulder, Mahavir saw that stupid rock sitting to the east.

"West it is!" He shouted while sticking his tongue out at the rock.

Before long, the sun which followed Mahavir for so long of his journey began to set. Soon he would have to give up for the night and rest. Luckily, it only took an hour or so before Mahavir found grass again, so his hooves weren't very sore. Around him, some small trees reached towards the starry sky. Mahavir didn't like the idea of resting someplace that he knew almost nothing about, but it seemed he had no other choice. By now he usually came across another animal who told him about the land, but as far as he could tell only trees occupied his land.

"Well, at least I have the stars to keep me company..." Mahavir sighed.

The day began as any other. Estelle woke up rather late in the day and didn't have to budge for breakfast, for she made her favorite field her sleeping place. There was an apple tree just a few yards away, which was very convenient as well. By the time she was finished with breakfast, the sun was already high in the sky. There really wasn't much for the mare to look forward to in the day... And that was because al the fun happened at night.

It certainly "made her day" when she came across a stallion or mare that would chat with her. But eventually they would have to leave. She had yet to meet someone more than once, so it always seemed like these meetings were too short. She had drilled in her head that it was a good day if she came across company, and that she was lucky. It was a very, very different mindset than that she had as a foal... But those were times she did not want to revisit.

So she spent her day "exploring", if one were to call it that, the surrounding forest. She spent more time than usual in the dark woods, and when she left the treeline the stars were already out. To Estelle they were invisible past the thick canopy of the trees, but in the grassy field... It was a perfect view.

Stretching her legs, she smiled as she looked upwards at the sky that matched her coat. She inhaled deeply, as the night air seemed to be so much fresher than that of the day...

"Mmm?" There was an unfamiliar figure in her field. Nobody was around this late in the day, or more so this early in the night. Her ears perked forward as she caught onto what he said, and her smile widened. She swallowed a giggle as she recognized the voice and the shape to be that of a stallion. Squaring her shoulders and walking with a little more bounce in her step, she tried to sneak up on him the best she could.

"At least you have that, right?" She agreed, the smile in her voice evident.

Mahavir didn't have to wander far in order to find something interesting with this little field. What started out to be a rather dull evening seemed to be taking a turn in the right direction. Perhaps there was some reason Mahavir's instinct told him to go west. Maybe it was this very reason that was currently sneaking up behind him.

Mahavir didn't want to seem weak or easily startled, especially in front of a mare, but there was nothing he could do when the stranger snuck up behind him. The field had such an eerie quietness that the mare's voice broke the silence like a flock of birds in a clear morning sky. Now, Mahavir didn't squeal like a little foal, but he did jump several feet and let out a little yelp. After Mahavir's brain clicked that the voice had been a mare's, he quickly tried to gain his conposure.

Once his heart had settled slightly, Mahavir returned her with, "It would seem I've been granted far better company." He hoped the mare wouldn't think him silly for his reaction to her, but the tone of her voice told Mahavir she wouldn't mind a shocked reaction. He was in awe of this mare; she seemed to blend together and become one with the night sky.

Before he continued to babble on any further, Mahavir turned on the charm and asked, "What do they call you, if I could be so bold?" with a wide smile.

A wide smile broke across the face of the yellow-hued mare, her lavender eyes twinkling with delight at his scare. She lowered her head, looking up at the stallion with a coy tilt of her head. Even if she held her head high, she'd still have to look up - this stallion was much taller than she was. "Asking for a fair mare's name is bold? Than I must say you're simply daring then." A giggle escaped her lips as she leifted her head, flicking her long tail his way.

"But it's not really pertinent what 'they' call me," Estelle said, looking up at the stars, "but what I call myself. The name's Estelle. Now, may I be as bold as you and inquire after the name given to you?" Though her tone hinted at playful teasing, she didn't want to offend the stallion at all. Then again, he came off as more of a playful type than that to be offended by her giggling and "flirting", if it were to be called that.

Besides, if he didn't want to talk, he could always turn tail and leave her field now... Though that would be no fun now would it?

Mahavir liked this mare already. She had a spunkiness to her that was refreshing to see in a mare. Most would have gone into some story about how their mother named them, but this mare, Estelle, doesn't listen to anyone else but herself. Mahavir watched as she flicked her tail and couldn't help but think how cute her laugh was.

"Oh oh, Estelle is it? Very interesting." Mahavir said. But instead of answering Estelle's question, Mahavir walked around and slowly circled her. In the growing darkness, it was difficult to see her mane and tail; instead they seemed to blend in with the sky. The feathers in her hair were like the first stars in the sky. Once he thought it'd been long enough, Mahavir finally answered, "The name's Mahavir. I'm not sure what others call me, but that's the one I like."

Mahavir thought this would be a good way to keep the playful mood going. Besides, he liked a mare who could hold her own in a conversation. She certainly had a way of holding his attention.
