In an interesting article I found on live science, there is evidence that there were 2 distinct groups of them with one dying out before humans were on the scene. Mostly I was interested in the science, but still, an interesting read!

They need some info on why those mammoths went extinct. And on top of that why the genetic diversity was so low. That could have left them unable to adapt, and that's gonna kill a species. burning_eyes kinda like that
