Winter Arena

User Image

Description: As one walks in, they will see that the arena is now a lot smaller than the previous one, seeming to be starting some type of pattern. Now, the fighting area is only 100 yards in diameter, the ground covered in two inches of snow over soiled ground underneath, and the temperatures being a cold 20 degrees Fahrenheit, despite the ceiling being open with the sun shining down. However, there is no sign of a designated platform, meaning the entire area is pretty much game. 25 yards from the stands each are 10 feet blocks of ice, designated at each corner of the arena, blocky with no definite shape, yet can be stood upon with the right footing. The blocks are so thick, however, that breaking them is not something of ease, or melting them. In the middle, with a diameter of 30 yards is a sitting pool of water iced over with a nice firm sheet of ice, the water underneath being 10 feet deep. However, if it takes too much stress, the ice can easily break.

Ten Count Boundary: The ten count starts as soon as someone goes over the twenty foot wall into the stands, or into the pool of water. If a person is already in a counted area and the other fighter enters in, the count is reset. If a person is being forced to stay in a counted area against their own will, for example, by being binded by an indirect attack (such as vines, tendrils, etc.), then the count stops. However, the count continues if a person is using their own body to keep the other fighter down AND have no part of their body inside the fighting zone (as well as being at least five yards away from the fighting zone). In this case, the count is being counted against both members.

Crunch

Tres's feet dug into the snow with each step. Luckily Tres was wearing military boots and they would allow him to keep more traction on the snow than normal sneakers would but still, he kind of hated this. 'Why can't we just have a normal ring', he thought as he walked out from his caged corner and into the field. His hands would be in his pocket and his body would consciously shiver to produce body heat. That combined with his under shirt, shirt and leather jacket, and the fact that he was suited to harsh environments he was well prepared. he was fine as far as temperature went but still he just wanted to get this over with. His eyes scanned the white field for his opponent.

Man, I HATE the cold.

Reyin ran forward, donned in what garb he could manage to scrounge up at the last moment. In this case, a fairly comfortable fitting hoodie and his usual pair of pants. Were he better prepared monetarily he probably could have afforded some more fight-worthy gear. As it was, the hoodied and pants would have to do. His sneakers, on the other hand, were pretty worn. The thin layer of snow would have to provide all the traction for the poor guy.

"WHOOO!"

The blonde swordsman jumped from the stands, tucked into a roll when he hit the ice, and sprang up, and planted his feet, allowing the 5'11", 180 lb youngster to slide across the thin layer of ice in the middle of the arena before coming to a stop not more than six feet away from his opponent, Tres. The hood on the sweatshirt had flopped upwards, covering the top of his head.

Reyin, obviously full of energy, flashed a wide toothy grin at the guy before thumbing his nose.

He adopted a strange stance that looked like it was taken straight out of a Bruce Lee flick after the nose thumbing, and...all things considered, it probably was. He tossed his head back, allowing the hood to flop back into its normal resting place.

"What's up buddy? Ready to put on a show?"

This guy would have had to been the third to make the mistake of playing Tres's game and not there own. Tres was much larger than the blonde man who appeared in front of him. Tres stood about 6"2 and over 200 pounds, he was tall and covered in lean muscle.

He was clothed in mostly black casual clothing including a leather jacket and he wore his hair in dreads. Tres would not slow his walking pace momentum down as the man made his appearance, Tres would simply shift into his ready stance and continue moving forward with shuffling footwork. The ready stance was identical to a orthodox (left lead forward) boxers or kickboxers, nothing complicated.

Tres didn't really talk when he was fighting, but after fighting they could have the longest conversation reyin wanted.

The bruce lee stance, or the jun fan ready stance, was a stance semilar to the kickboxers but usually power (right) hand forward and with the lead hand low. Now there were two variations of this, the one bruce used in his movies and the one he used in real life depicted on the jkd hand book. The man seemed to take the fake one, which was usually a low side stance with the lead hand low and extended, and upon Tres getting in range he would take advantage.

Tres upon getting in range would throw the right low muay thai roundhouse to the opponents lead right upper thigh with the right shin. The low thai round came in down at the target at an angle with a tight arc that made the kick fast by removing the large arc roundhouses were usually known for. Tres would bend his rear knee to sink his weight into the strike while turning into it on the balls of his left foot and with his waist.

Tres's shin seemed harder than usual and would seem akin to taking a hard bat to the leg.

Aww man, this guy's no fun.

That grin never left Reyin's face as he dropped out of the stance before Tres had even closed the gap. The stance itself was just for show, as Reyin was 90% entertainment and 10% serious face when it came to fighting. As stated before, Reyin wasn't a martial artist, and he wasn't in the mood of pretending to be one. This guy was bigger than him, though, not by much, and looked like he knew how to fight. That wasn't to say Reyin was any slouch either. He looked like he was in about as good a shape as any human could be, but it was hard to tell underneath the hoodie, which, coincidentally, was also hiding his sword from view (save for the hilt popping up over the shoulder).

Since Reyin was stepping out of his stance, Tres' roundhouse would be a little easier to deal with since his center of balance was directly atop his legs.

"HUP!"

Up Reyin went, demonstrating a rather impressive vertical leap as he sailed overtop the kick aimed at his thighs.

"YAH!"

And then immediately straightened both legs to kick the soles of his sneakers into Tres' chest. Since it took mass to move mass, Reyin was glad that Tres didn't weight upwards of five hundred pounds, or he'd be having some troubles. But since the two weighed roughly the same, if the kick didn't floor Tres outright, it'd at least get some separation between the two as Reyin landed shoulder first onto the solid snow and ice.

Tres's kick was aimed to strike at a downward angle. This would allow him to place his foot down quickly and set him down in south paw stance. The round house technique had caused Tres to bend his knee's lowering his center of gravity, making him more stable, and Tres had set down his foot with enough power to send his foot through the thin layer of snow and into the wet yet rough ground beneath.

Tres would perform a boxers front block in front of his chest, still bending his knee's and leaning forward.

'Clank!', went the opponents feet as they hit Tres's forearms.

Tres would push against the opponents thrusting feet as they had slammed harshly into his bracer covered forearms. He would use his massive arms and powerful back and it would soon become apparent that while Tres's strength was at the sheer pinnacle of what a man was capable of.

"RAH!"

He shouted. His push would prevent him from being knocked prone by the kick but it would cause his body to slide back somewhat on the wet ground.

The opponent hit the ground and Tres smiled while explosively taking advantage. Tres would attempt to take the mount position. Tres would shoot forward as if with a double leg takedown quickly to place his body on top of the opponents straddling his hips. As he shot forward his arms would remain in front of his body. After taking mount, his hands would extend out to get control of the opponents wrist.

Reyin wasn't stupid. The moment he hit the ground and Tres backed up ever-so-slightly, Reyin decided he should probably get the hell out of dodge. His impact on the ice was rough enough as it was, he didn't need to get his face pounded. Tres shot forward, and Reyin took what amounted to as the coward's way out.

He ran away.

Sort of.

Reyin pushed backwards against the snow he was laying in. It didn't seem like he was going to make much progress, but we forget that Reyin had just skid across the thin layer of ice during his entrance and hadn't moved too far. One swift kick was enough to move him about a foot on the snow, which was more than enough to send him sliding backwards on the thin ice overtop the pool of water.

About to the end of the hole, Reyin sat up, drew his sword, and stabbed it into the ground. Water rushed up from the new puncture, just in case Tres decided to chase after him. It wasn't exactly going to bust open the whole pool, but running straight across the thing was going to be far more abusive than sliding on your back.

Once Reyin stopped he'd pull himself up to a standing position, this time with his sword in hand. Y'know, assuming he'd have enough time to actually get ready.

The double leg takedown shot always ended with one foot being planted to give the shooter the option to lift the opponent or simply push forward to knock the opponents body prone. However, Tres had missed the shot since the prone opponent kicked to launch himself upon the wet and now icy surface.

Tres smoothly in the end phase of the shot would do two things, in his right hand he would draw his machete from his boot strap and his left hand would dig through the snow and let his curved fingers draw a snow ball. Upon rising from the double leg back into his original stances footing he would toss the snow ball at the opponents face as a distraction for a moments thought.

Now the ice, Tres thought would give both him and the opponent bad footing. Tres was no slouch with a blade but his forte' was hand to hand and judging by the opponent drop kick; a lousy technique, the opposite may be true for him.

Tres knew what his goal was now that the opponent had drawn his sword and that was too get really, really, close. Now the question was...persue where the footing will suffer or not. Then just as Tres was about to step on to the icy pool of water he noticed that the opponent had just stabbed his sword into it breaking it up.

Now it would be foolish for Tres to follow, so his choice was made easy. Tres would stop at the edge of the pool. Tres would then look at the opponent and say,

"Teh Really?"

Tres would then raise his lead left knee and then low side kick at the pool with the left heel into the pool of water. With the power of Tres's massive thigh's a huge shock would be sent through the thin sheet of ice on which Reyin stood. The cracks would spread out like a wave and form under Reyins feet. Now the thin sheet of ice would shatter and give way to the water and Reyin would fall in lest he could fly.

"So, you do talk."

Reyin was still all smiles, even after taking a snowball to the face halfway through his slide. It wasn't like the snow was hiding a rock or anything, so after a quick wipe, Reyin was back to his sliding. When Reyin had actually stopped, he was

, which meant he wasn't really in huge danger of falling into the icy depths. He was able to stand up, picking his sword up out of the ice in the process.

"And here I was..."

Tres' kick sent cracks along the circle of ice, causing Reyin to take a single step back as the ice shattered and spread out along the small pool of water. Standing at the water's edge, Reyin hesitated for but a moment, then he sprung forward.

The ice by itself was capable of supporting the blonde, as evidenced by his sliding across the pool twice now. With chunks of ice still floating, it was only safe to assume that as long as Reyin didn't attempt to stand on the ice, he'd be fine.

He bounded from right foot to left foot, shooting across the ice like a man possessed in three steps, ten feet hardly being a big challenge.

The blonde would launch himself from the last piece of ice with his left foot, dragging his right foot back behind his body as he did so.

"That you were a mute!"

And Reyin would lash out with a vertical kick aimed to catch Tres square in the jaw. His sword hand was kept up near his chest, with the sword held horizontally with the point facing to Reyin's left. Reyin's left hand, meanwhile, seemed to just hover above his waist.

Thats it

Tres thought.

rush in fast

Currently Tres's stance was left lead forward with his legs spread medium width and his knees slightly bent. His chest was squared forward albeit turned slightly to the right. His left hand was low with the left hand in front of the left oblique, while the elbow of the arm was held away from the body keeping it ready to move. The right hand was positioned in front of the chest, holding the machete vertically at a slight angle to the left so that the blade blunt edge would be positioned in front of his face.

Tres would as the kick would come in at his face, lean backwards while sliding his rear right foot back. Immediately after the kick would miss its target he would perform a low side kick aimed towards the opponents instep.

This kick would take advantage of the fact that the opponent was throwing a high kick with a ton of forward momentum on a slippery surface, this would send his momentum completly out of his control by knocking his stationary foot out from under him; sending him falling forward in a split.

The opponents weapon was held horizontally in front of his body with the blade pointing to the left in his right hand. After the kick Tres would simply shift his weight forward while following through with the downward momentum of the kick to put his foot down quickly. He would lean slightly to the left to let the opponents right kicking leg fall harmlessly to the ground. Simultaneously Tres would reach out with his vajra mushti glove covered hands to snatch the blade of the sword.

Tres wouldn't have to reach far since the opponent would be coming close so he would keep his left forearm in a vertical position as he would go for an overhand grasp, this would keep a constant barrier between the opponents blade and Tres's body.

Simultaneously Tres would attempt to place his right hand machete blade at the right side of the opponents neck, and during the turn of the waist he would slide the machete blade on the opponents neck to cause him to bleed without dealing any massive damage. Tres was not here to kill anybody, he could have drove the pointed weapon into the opponents throat but he didn't want to kill this guy.

Tres' plan was a pretty textbook example of why it was never really smart to leave your feet in a fight. But Reyin really had no such thing as a stationary foot. Hell, he was still practically flying into Tres when the kick was launched, and he wasn't going to stop soon after passing him, either. Tres' would kick at Reyin's leg and still find some success, however. Reyin's knee shot forward and the moment his toes touched the snow they started dragging rather uncomfortably. Reyin's foot was still almost at his head, and in the process of coming down when his forward momentum stopped and the blonde nearly did a face plant into the snow.

Unfortunately, the rest of Tres' plan involving grabbing the sword and slicing Reyin's neck with the machete were going to be put on hold, because, as said before, Reyin had a lot of momentum. Tres was free to follow up, but as it stood Reyin had traveled about ten feet past his target with that little jump.

"GYAH!"

Reyin was still far from being scott-free, though. His left leg was fully extended, toes digging into the snow while his right was bent at a roughly 45 degree angle at the knee. Unfortunately, he wasn't resting on the ball of his right foot and the strain of the sudden stop had nearly torn his quadricep.

Reyin ducked his head down and peered through the space between his right arm and chest, aiming to get a good view of where his opponent was before acting next.

Tres's lack of gaian inexperience was showing. His opponent seemed to be making mistakes but Tres was failing to take any real advantage. He didn't have first blood and every second that Tres did not have that made him more and more agitated.

'Ssllllliiiinnng!'

Went the opponents blade as it would probrably slide cross Tres's forearm bracer as the opponent flew past and would eventually go nearly face first ten feet behind him in the snow. In Tres's previous movement he would make a clockwise turn with his waist and now he would follow through with that movement to face the opponent as he went past.

As Tres would turn to face the opponent his left hand would reach inside of his jacket and would remove that machete blade that had the handle broken off in the last battle. He would take up the blade in his left hand and in the same motion toss it at the lower back of the distant opponent. The blade would spin horizontally. The opponent may catch the handless blade out of the corner of his eye coming at his back. He would use the power of his turn in the throw.

Tres immediately after turning to face his opponent and tossing the blade would begin to move towards his opponents back. He would switch the machete to his left hand, in his right hand he would draw his ka-bar knife and would simultaneously move towards the opponent with shuffling footwork with his left side forward. The blade would be held low with the blade pointing forward at a slight upwards angle. The right hand would be in front of the face with the elbow held close to the body. .

"Nnf!"

Reyin fell flat onto his chest, allowing the machete blade to whiz past and sink into an ice block not too far away. Reyin rolled over onto his back, then kicked up to his feet which was a pretty damn hard thing for the youngster to do without the snow.

He rocked back, caught himself, then dropped his stance and rushed in towards Tres.

Seemed that his opponent had two weapons, which was a bit of a concern since they were both sharp and Reyin was filled with meats. But a four and a half foot longsword had more reach than a machete, so Reyin was going to make the most of that range.

Spinning the sword in his right hand, Reyin attempted to stop his forward momentum a good six feet in front of Tres. Once in that position he'd just swing his sword across his chest in a horizontal, right to left motion. The two would be far enough away that the resulting wound, should Tres be unable to dodge, would only be an inch deep at the most.

It was a fairly simple slash, without risking too much follow-through while sending the message 'get any closer and the next cut will be about a foot deeper'.

With that long sword the opponent had a considerable reach advantage and Tres currently didn't have his throwing weapons on him. Tres would step back as a fencer would, feet sliding smoothly against the snow on a short but quick retreat while turning his waist in a counter clockwise turn to put his chest more square to the opponent. This would let the blade pass harmlessly just in front of him. Tres didn't want to go back too much because now the opponent was pushing him towards the pool of Ice.

Immediatly after the blade would make its pass in front of tres's body, Tres would touch his left hand machete against the upper portion of the opponents sword and would step in while pressing the blade out to his left side, Tres's left hand would remain on guard. He did this to prevent the opponents blade from running him through and to get in close.

Since Reyin was swinging from right to left, either Tres had managed to push Reyin's sword back to Reyin's own right side or Tres was pushing the sword out further to Reyin's left. Assuming Tres' intention was to push the blade away following the swing, it'd most likely be pushing the sword to Tres' right, and Reyin's left. Using the machete blade put Tres' right left hand out past his body, and before Tres could begin to advance, Reyin reacted.

"Hnf."

The subtle motion of shifting his body weight forward caused the snow to crunch beneath the balls of his feet as his left foot took the lead. Then, without much warning, Reyin's sword dipped down, dropped behind Tres' machete, and then pushed the weapon in towards the center of the two fighters just before Reyin pushed himself upward with a jump.

"HYAH!"

In a similar motion that he had performed during his first fight, Reyin went into a moonsault, kicking upwards with his right foot aimed in the general direction of Tres' right hand. The toe of Reyin's foot would hit somewhere along the wrist or closed hand and, with any luck, disarm the bigger guy's machete.

Of course, there was still the knife to worry about. And since Reyin wasn't much of an acrobat and had even less traction than before, he actually landed chest first in the snow following the kick. Still, there was a knife to worry about, and Reyin wasn't much in the mood for being stabbed while laying prone on the ground. Hands underneath him, Reyin didn't make it more than halfway up before he attempted to pounce before opportunity stabbed him in the back.

So he did the only thing he could really hope to do. He lunged forward, shoulder first, at Tres' midsection in the best impression of a football tackle he could manage.
