I think I'm probably going to like this one.
For characters who don't yet have voices, or for characters who don't have a very good voice actor (say, in games where they're not really used much), or even characters from your own writing, who would be most suitable?
Also, you can put actors into real life positions of characters from videogames/anime and your own work. That's what this is all about.
For my vampire character who looks and acts a lot like Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, I'd choose someone like Brian Drummond who plays Zechs Marquise in Gundam Wing. Don't you think this guy's voice would suit Alucard, Hypno? Zechs - Tallgeese Destroyed.
For my pirate, it would be someone like Jude Law (only voice wise). If you could imagine Jude Law at least voice acting a flamboyant young pirate captain, blonde, and who's good with the ladies.
For my Northern, Scandinavian-type warrior (who's friends with the pirate), both in voice and facially, Kiefer Sutherland.
I'm hoping Jasta will like this thread.... smile

My goodness Mel, you have very good taste and I have to tell ya, I never heard of that Drummond guy before now. He does sound similar to whoever played Alucard in the original version of SotN.
I have an example of a hero who has never had a voice of his own and that's "Link". Yes, I'm talking about the boy in green, hero of the land of Hyrule and the always savior of the beautiful Princess Zelda. I can't think of anybody that could do his voice though, can any of you do it?
Kiefer Sutherland has a good voice, yes. I just don't like that "Jude Law" fellow for some reason. I think he isn't such a good actor and not half as good looking as Kiefer is. rolleyes

I don't mean Jude Law as in how he looks, I mean just his voice. It's very smooth and cultured and that's how my pirate sounds. You just have to add a bit of a seafaring accent on to it (no - not "arrgh Jim Laad!" style). You'd understand more if you could hear me. We must find a way to do this....

Oh, I do like this thread--and thanks for that link! *am SUCH a Zechs shipper... * smile
I'll have to give some thought to what actors could voice (or portray) my characters. In the Deryni fandom this is a constantly-recurring discussion, because Ms. Kurtz has often said she would love to have either a live-action or animated (or CGI, like Advent Children) done of some of her books. smile
I know a younger Daniel Day Lewis (about the time of "Mohicans") could easily play my vampire character Fitz... smile

I know what you meant Mel! It's just that because I don't like Jude Law, I can't really remember what he sounds like. I think, from what little I remember, that his voice isn't as cool as other voices I've heard.
And yes, it would be cool for us to chat on messenger. If you keep logging in on it next week, I'm gonna make sure to attach a mike to this computer and look you up. 3nodding
I'm glad Jasta came, saw and liked this thread. mrgreen
BTW, I still have no idea who could play any of my characters yet. I don't concentrate on their voices until after the whole story is done. And even then, sometimes I forget to figure out what they could sound like. sweatdrop

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Trailer Jude Law is in that, though you don't hear him much in that trailer. However, think of his voice only and try to think of a little bit of a seafaring accent in there. He's slightly different when doing interviews though, but still the same man and voice nonetheless - Jude Law - Interview.

I saw that movie cuz it seemed interesting. I certainly didn't see just cuz he was in it! Well, if that's the sort of voice yer character should have, then who am I to argue? mrgreen

The idea is, he's a smooth talker with a slight seafarin' accent.

I can't think of anybody that could do his voice though, can any of you do it? But he has had a voice! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66qUm2ypmIEAhhh... eighties cartoons! As for my own characters, I guess I haven't really thought about who would voice them, though I certainly have imagined their voices. My RPG characters tend to have some variation of my own voice, but that's mainly because I play them around the gaming table and voice them myself, anyway. And, similarly, the other characters in the group, for the most part, have my friends' voices (unless there's cross-play involved). For some reason, I don't really tend to cast real people as the voices of or even the whole person of my character (for some reason, I tend to imagine stuff as cartoons). But at the same time, I tend to want to cast voices or actors for fiction that I read. I have, of late, taken to wanting to put Ewan McGreggor's voice to Danilo Thann from Forgotten Realms (not his native Scottish accent, though; the one he used for Obi-Wan). Berz.

Nice idea Mel!
I didn't mean that Berz! Of course he had a voice in a TV show. I mean that in all these years of video game stories, he has never had his own voice. I don't know if the folks at Nintendo even liked the voice acting in those series.
I can see what you mean about Ewan McGregor's voice. He did s good job as Obi Wan. 3nodding

He did an even more phenomenal job in Big Fish, but the southern US accent isn't anywhere close to what I think of for Danilo, so...
On a somewhat related note, as it, too, involves voices, has anyone ever imagined a tune for poems in books that are supposed to be songs? I got to thinking about it a little bit when I was going over some parts of LoTR again. There's one song in particular that Aragorn and Legolas are both supposed to sing parts of and it got me thinking about how they would each sing their versus. Aragorn strikes me as a baritone and Legolas seems like he would be a tenor.

I have no idea what to add on the LotR cuz I am not much for recognizing what kind of voice a guy could have. sweatdrop There's that and, I don't know much about the concept anyway...

Well, it was basically by way of bringing up another sort of voice to talk about; singing voice. It can sometimes be very different from a character's speaking voice, depending on circumstances. It's applicable to bard characters.

You don't know what kind of voice a guy would have, Hypno? All you need to do is take a look at your characters and imagine his or her voice in order to put tone and dialect to it. When you have that, you should start getting actors in your mind who could potentially play that character either in live action or just simply in voice over.

Please don't mention Jude Law again. I still haven't gotten over that scene in Sleuth where he says "witty" in a peculiar way over and over again. rofl
Finding one to play one of my major characters, an assassin, would be pretty hard. The closest you can get is Gackt Camui, a Japanese singer and actor, the way he looks when playing Uesugi Kenshin. Even he isn't quite perfect, but close enough. Actually, the one who could portray my assassin almost perfectly is in fact a woman - Li Gong. She scared the crap out of my friend and me in her role as Hatsumomo from Memoirs of a Geisha because she reminded us so much of my assassin, both appearance and personality wise. He's a bit androgynous-looking but not that much, unfortunately.
Johnny Depp could play my assassin, but at the same time not. Haha. sweatdrop
My main character is also hard. I'd say Cate Blanchett would be perfect for her if she coloured her hair white; however, they'd have to make her shorter as my main character is barely above 1,50 m. Natalie Portman could also work, but Cate's voice suits my main character better. Her face, too, I think.
There is one who is absolutely perfect for one of my "middle" characters: Jeremy Irons. He'd be wonderful in the role as one of my earls, both when it comes to appearance and voice. Even if M - the earl - should change and Irons no longer fits as that character, I'd make a character form him to play. He's one of my favourite actors, can you tell? Only reason I watched Eragon.
