Shopping was boring. Soooo boring that Austin was overjoyed the moment they managed to get to the diner place that evening. It was called a Food Court, not that he cared, or even remembered, and he and Kaeden had scarfed down their food so fast that they had almost choked, before running to the playground area next to it.

They were watched, from a distance, but that didn't matter. They usually WERE. Austin climbed the nearest stuffed shape, holding his arms up in the air. "This is my ship now, bukkos!"

Regardless of the fact it wasn't a ship... and had no water to be seen.

Kaeden was climbing up after him, having wolfed down his own food and followed Austin, was climbing up a different shape. "Okay, that can be your ship. This'll be mine!" he declared with a grin. Never mind it was smaller than Austin's. He went for the biggest.

He was just glad they weren't shopping anymore!

As the boys played, a woman sat down in the food court and started the slightly annoying process of pulling her baby off her; it was with resigned hopelessness that Lindy Naaktgeboren had learnt that Casca did not want to go in the pram. He liked climbing up her like a monkey, arms around her neck, and digging his claws into her back until she looked like a tic-tac-toe board. She had a baby sling and they called truce with that; he still didn't like it, but he put up with it, and he didn't put up with the pram.

There were other children there. He looked at them with big grey eyes, considering, as she took him out and looked around to see where the best chance of getting fruit slices was at. "Dere!"

"Dere? There?"

One little claw stabbed in the direction of the playground. "Dhere! Play."

It had horrified her a little how quickly he had learned, how he knew about two hundred words already, and about ten sentences that he could string together. It had been what, two weeks? "I'm not sure, baby. Can you say 'one gazillion germs'?"

He looked up at her with his big soulful eyes; one bat and they were shiny with tears. "I wub yoo," he said.

"Oh god," said Lindy. "You little -- ugh. You emotional manipulator. Look, just for a little while, okay?"

He looked satisfied and smug as she dropped him over the barrier to the playground and stood there watching as he crawled over to the other kids, starting to climb his way up a shape by digging his claws in. She winced. Once those claws got sharper, he was going to do one hell of an amount of damage.

Oh, well. Repha'im used to eat his micromachine cars.

"An' I'll be lootin' your ship, then!" Austin said, waving around an invisible sword in his imitation of a pirate. The only fault with this was there was only one ship on the entire island that they came from, so it was hard to loot other ships in real life.

But reality had never had any influence on Austin, so it was all good. "Yargh!" he yelled, jumping off of his "ship" and starting to climb Kaeden's.

"Oh no you don't!" Kaeden replied, looking around for something to fend off Austin with. She grabbed the new belt that they bought him. Then started to use it against him. "You already got your ship!"

And he didn't have anything to be looted, anyway. He didn't even notice the winged boy.

The jumping had looked good; before his mother could jump the barricade and rescue him from whatever injury he could give himself, Casca jumped over to the other shape the other boys were on, clinging, pulling himself up on top. It looked like fun. He wanted to join in, too: he sat down, tail twitching, and looked up at the boys amiably.

They were fighting: so he raised his claws and opened his mouth and out came the tiniest and most pathetic growl ever. Even Casca looked embarrassed at it. His tiny gargoyle voicebox was not a good growler yet.

Austin stopped mid "battle" and looked towards the growl curiously. "Oye, oye, Kaeden... it'sa sea monster!!" His eyes lit up at the thought, seeing as this "sea monster" was a LOT less scary than Tock was, so it was fair game for an epic battle!

Kaeden looked a bit more stunned. Not by the growl, but by the simple face someone just jumped onto his 'ship'. Then at the embaressed look on the strange winged boy's face and the suggestion that this was a 'sea monster', he grinned.

"And he's attackin my ship!" he replied, backing up a pace. "Avast ye!" Whatever that meant. Rory had pirate movies and they had watched them.

Unfrightened, and rather pleased at the attention, the little gargoyle boy growled again. This one was a bit more confident, and he swiped one claw out in a move anybody could have dodged; he was just a baby, after all. He got on all fours and started crawling towards both boys.

Austin jumped out of the way, giggling wildly before he caught himself. "We'll 'aveta net him!" he said, grabbing for the younger boy. "An' we can make 'im like the KRAKKEN!!"

"Tha' would be awesome!" Kaeden said, grinning madly at this idea. He had also been laughing at this 'attacking' as well. "'N then he can take down other ships 'n stuff!"

He also reached for Casca like Austin was.

Casca stuck his butt up in the air and wiggled: to anyone who had ever owned a cat, it was fairly obvious as a pouncing pose, and he was just contemplating which one would be better to pounce. In the end, Kaeden won out, and he launched himself at the other boy -- his eyes glowed momentarily as he pounced at him, making both of them slip off the shape and off to the padded floor. This was even better than playing with Dirk Dingo.

"He gotcha Kaeden, but your sacra... pies will not be in... um... Pain!" Austin said, dramatically before jumping off of the shape to get into the fray.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:57 pm

Kaeden had let out a yelp when hit. On the ground, after he realized he wasn't in pain - that much - he started to fray his arms. " 'E's got me!" he said dramatically, grinning from ear to ear. "Save yerself!"

"No way! We can't let our krakken get away!" Austin said, wrapping his arms around Casca's waist. "We'll rule the seven seas with him!"
