A month had passed since he had last seen the boy; it wasn't supposed to be that long, honestly, but there had been difficulty meeting up once more. Even still, Vikesh was in a rut at finding his young apprentice. Perched upon the hilltop, he sighed heavily, on watch for Otieno for the seventh day. How long could it take him to find this spot..? He was annoyed, but quite honestly, not all that surprised. A month of reflection.. while it would've been good for Otieno, probably hadn't changed the runt all that much. Inside or out, he was still the same brat he'd always been.

Smirking with a light chuckle, Vikesh shook his head. But.. wasn't that the good part of his apprentice? There was a difference in the two; Where Vikesh was reclusive and unfriendly, Otieno was young, and happy, and trusting. (It wasn't something he would readily admit, especially NOT to his apprentice's face, but damn if he wasn't proud of the boy. Otieno had made him quite the happy old lion.) He told himself, quietly, that when he grew older and tired of the job, Otieno would make a wonderful Host. Gods, probably better than he was.

..If only the rotten brat could show up on time, anyway. Shaking himself from thinking positively of his apprentice, Vikesh's mood turned sour once more, awaiting the arrival of Otieno. A push from the winds had guided him in this direction; as always, he'd followed the notion and arrived here. Otieno... sometime soon, he'd be here. And gods, if that brat didn't have it coming when he got here.

"I'll kill 'im," Vikesh mumbled to himself, slowly lowering himself to lay down and snorting slightly. "I swear, I'll kill 'im, and just tell Unyezi a crocodile did it. The boy is dead when I find 'im."

He supposed he was going to be a bit late. But it wasn't like he had been wasting the whole time! Yes, he had been doing things - important things! Sauntering forward, a smirk etched upon his face, Otieno tried to piece together the last bits of the epic story that would be told to Vikesh once they met again. Oh, the old lion would never believe it, true, he knew his apprentice too well by now, but it was something of a game, even a tradition, shared between the two. Otieno weaved the story, and Vikesh determined the truth from the muddled mess. Quite fun.

Stray bits of dark mane tickled his face, causing the smirk to disappear. Such an annoying thing! Young male cubs, dreaming of the day when their mane would first start to show, were in for a rude awakening. Otieno was still bleary-eyed from his. A-ha, Vikesh was so old, his mane was probably ready to fall out.

The stray thought of his master caused the young lion to realize that he was nearing the meeting place. As often as his sarcastic thoughts of the old lion were, Otieno was glad his separation from him was drawing to a close. He had actually missed him! Not that Vikesh would ever find out.

From within the landscape, Otieno picked out a stray hill and atop it...a lump. Leave it to Vikesh to still be here, even when he was pathetically late. Quickening his pace, he closed the distance between himself and the hill, summiting it in time to hear his master's death threats against him. The smirk on his face returned.

"You couldn't kill me if you tried, ol' grump."

Thoth was a good natured lion. He was calm and reasonable, but after all of his searching he was about ready to clunk Vikesh and Otieno in the heads for being so lost if he found them. When he found them. The priest and apprentice had been a secret high priority on the list of those who were left to find, if only because Otieno was the queen's brother (and Thoth's cousin!) and they were the only priest position completely lacking in a priest at the moment. They were one midwife short, but they still had Mitsuki. Other than that, they were pretty much all set.

His spirit was high after finding Namir, and he was making one last round the general area before heading back towards home to see if the lion had made it back or not. His hopes were high that Namir did, even if he had a bit of trouble with names.. he would be home.

Getting ready to take a break, especially when faced with an incline to walk up, it was only by chance that he saw two lions near the top of the hill. So much time had passed and Otieno had grown so much that he didn't immediately realize who it was. But he was in such an optimistic frame of mind he was willing to go and check it out, at least he could ask some questions. So instead of taking a break, he climbed up the hill.

"Care to wager on that, runt?" Vikesh snapped, not bothering to look back to the younger lion when his tone made his point damned clear. Flicking his tail, he kept himself firmly on the ground, not caring to see his lazy apprentice and be annoyed. "Do you realize, brat," he grumbled again, tone as annoyed and short as ever, "how impossibly late you are? If Unyezi doesn't kill the both of us when we return, I'll take being exiled or killed if it means doing you in myself."

Grunting slightly as he rose, Vikesh took a moment to put himself soundly on his paws, glad to see he still had SOME size on Otieno. The boy- which, he begrudgingly admitted to himself, was becoming an inappropriate term- was certainly growing. Like some kind of horrible, annoying, back-talking weed. Smiling slightly at the thought, he took a minute to look over his apprentice, making a paced path around the other lion.

"So what's the story this time, hm?" He queried lightly, in mock-amusement. "Damsel in distress? Gods calling you off onto a fantastic quest?" Vikesh snorted at this, rolling his eyes. "You know, if I don't remotely believe your story-" he paused at this, fully well knowing he wouldn't- "Or, rather, I don't find it entertaining, I'm doubling your training."

He stopped in his seemingly mad ramblings, however, when he heard the approach of another lion. Ears flickering, Vikesh put on the best- and, a fact Otieno probably knew well from seeing the old lion, his FAKEST- smile, cheerily raising his head toward the other.

"Why, hello there!" He called brightly, all of the previously annoyed tone gone from his now honey-sweet voice. "Good to see you! Thoth, isn't it?"

Giving an exaggerated roll of his eyes, Otieno, slouching a tad, prepared himself for what would be an inevitably long winded speech and a demeaning discourse. Typically he would obviously ignore such a boring display of words, but given the circumstances not even Otieno wanted to overly test his master's temper. He was late, inexplicably late, and if conceding to a bit of lecturing was the only punishment in store for him, then he was lucky indeed.

"About as late as the God of Death is for you," he snorted softly in response to Vikesh's inquest, half hoping that the old lion would not hear him. He would, of course, because the old codger had a way of hearing all of the wrong things and none of the right ones!

Tightening his posture as Vikesh stood, he flicked his tail in amusement at his master's question. "Actually, the gods called me off on a quest to rescue a damsel in distress! It was quite fascinating, really. There I was, after defeating twenty scores of raiding hyenas, when the very sky split open and the gods themselves fell from above! The mighty ones stood and with booming voices said "No other lion, so handsome, bold, and strong, could possibly complet-""

The obviously fake story was discontinued when the storyteller realized his audience's attention was directed elsewhere. Turning his own eyes toward the approaching lion, a genuine smile that countered Vikesh's fake one soon appeared. "Thoth!"

The greeting barely heralded the tackle that Otieno lovingly gave his cousin. They had done this often when he had been a cub, but it was a completely different affair now that he was no longer cub-sized. "How've you been? How's Aure? How's everyone? It's so great to see you," he spouted off with familiar youthful exuberance. At least only his size had changed, right?

The weary purple and blue lion came to a stop when he was addressed kindly by the elder of the two lions on the hill- for a moment he was surprised, disbelieving. That was definitely Vikesh and--

"Otieno!" he cried, toppling over when tackled by his now rather large cousin. It'd been so long, he couldn't remember the fuzzball being quite this fuzzy! He really could care less that they were in the presence of a high class priest who very likely was unamused.

"You've grown so much!" Thoth laughed, shoving Otieno from him, standing up and shaking himself off, "Aure is fine, last I heard she had borne a bunch of cubs. We've been settled for some time now, I've been off looking for all you stragglers just as long now."

Vikesh was going to have a word- rather, words, in this instance- with Otieno later on his snide little comment, but for now, he would put on a friendly smile- it was his duty, after all. He would admit to himself, however, that there was some entertainment in Otieno's fake story; the boy caught on well.

...Hm. Maybe he wouldn't be so harsh in his punishment for Otieno's tardiness as he'd planned. Vikesh considered this for a moment- he could... serve to be a tad nicer, he supposed..

...well, at least until his apprentice made a fool of himself by TACKLING Thoth. Cringing visibly, Vikesh had to honestly pause a moment to regain his composure. Otieno could be scolded later for his childish actions. For now, however, it was not the two of them, and Vikesh had appearances to keep up!

"Cubs, hm? How wonderful," he spoke gently, the smile once more fixed on his features. Sobering slightly, however, his gaze fell to the ground.

"Well, my sincerest apologies for being gone so long, Thoth; especially if it kept you busy all this time!" Vikesh shifted uneasily at this, his ears flickering. "My training for Otieno... it would seem I made it too difficult," he spoke lightly, tone perfectly flat and lacking emotion. "Entirely my fault. I shouldn't have kept the Pride waiting so long."

Glancing up to Otieno at this, a slight glimmer of frustration in his eyes, Vikesh continued.

"Are you ready to head back, apprentice?"
