Tiny broze-colored hooves hovered ever so slightly above the ground, the foal attatched to them giggling with glee. After what seemed like forever of flapping his wings to make them stronger, Amitola was finally able to use them to lift his small body from the earth. "Oh, I knew I would learn before that pesky girl! That other boy, too!" He was referring to his two 'cousins' that he lived with. His parents were busy taking care of his siblings, the ones he figured were more important to them.
The foal had not a care in the world about his surroundings. If he did, he'd probably be off chasing the butterfly that was fluttering by and asking it questions, or he'd be staring at a ladybug to try and count its spots. Instead, he was hovering above the ground, flapping his wings as hard as he could to try and get higher in the air. His efforts were in vain. With wings not yet strong enough to support his weight for a long time, the colt fell to the ground in a heap.

Yazmina was skyborne again. She much preferred being in the air to on the ground. Not that she minded the teepee or the others she shared it with. Not even the two leg. But there was something wonderful about being able to see the world beneath her while she stood on nothing--or seemed to anyway. Floating, drifting, she liked being lazy and simply riding the wind. She was also, however, curious, and when she saw the brightly-colored colt beneath her, well, she had to circle lower to see what he was doing. And once she'd spotted his attempts at flight, she couldn't help but call out, "That's it, you're doing--oh!" He'd fallen and she dropped the rest of the little distance to solid ground, hurrying toward him. "Are you all right?"

Blue eyes widening, Amitola screeched. "When the hell did you get there?!" He had picked up quite a few things from his 'aunt' Dusty, which included a few swear words and all about the birds and the bees. After examining the mare, he grinned. "Uh... Of course I'm alright! Me? Get hurt? Pfft!"
In reality, he'd hurt his leg, but didn't want to show it in front of a girl. He thought that girls liked tough guys, and didn't want to be seen as weak. To prove his point, the colt jumped around a bit, trying his best not to grimace from the pain. "See? I'm fine."

Oh, goodness. Yazmina's eyes widened a bit. "I. Well. I." She backed off a step or two. "That is. I was flying and I saw you and then you fell and well." The language had completely thrown her out of any steady train of thought.
But as she watched him jump and hop, she could tell he was favoring one foot a little, and that put her back on track. "I didn't mean badly hurt," she assured him. "You're much too good at flying for that, I'm sure. Just a little hurt, that's what I meant. You're sure you're all right?"

Amitola considered her words for a moment. Only a little hurt? Perhaps. "Well... I guess my leg's kinda sore. But what's it matter? There's not much I can do but walk it off anyway." He nodded. Having gotten hurt many times before, the foal knew the drill. If you weren't bleeding and could still stand, walk it off. If it was bleeding, go tell 'aunt' Midori or Dusty you had a booboo and get a two-legger to patch it up.

She shifted her weight a bit from hoof to hoof, watching him and debating whether she should offer to help. It depended on how bad it was, she supposed. She'd wait a while and if it didn't improve, well, certainly she could scrape up the courage to help. So she nodded and smiled encouragingly.
"My name is Yazmina, by the way. What's yours?"

He grinned. "My name?" His luck was terrible when it came to introducing himself. Either he'd be ignored, or they wouldn't care. "Well, Miss Yazmina, if you really must know, I'm Amitola." The foal's tiny chest was puffed out, and his grin broadened. "But don't call me Ami. That's a girl's name." Nodding, he fluttered his wings, excited to have met somebody new.

He was adorable. Yazmina couldn't help but laugh at the chest-puffing, but she didn't mean to mock. It was pure amusement and her laughter was light and clear. "I really did have to know," she insisted. "Otherwise I wouldn't know what to call you at all." She bobbed her head a little and added, "It's very nice to meet you, Amitola, but you don't have to call me Miss. Just Yazmina will do."
She fanned her wings a bit as well. Not entirely intentionally. His fluttering just encouraged her to move her own. And, really, it was idle motion when she was interested and his wings were definitely different enough to intrigue. "I promise not to call you Ami. You deserve the whole name. It suits you, I think."

Amitola blinked and thought for a moment. "But... Auntie Midori says that beautiful mares should always be called Miss. And I think you're very beautiful." He smiled and nodded, not exactly comprehending what he'd just said.
"You really think so? When I came out of my basket, Mamma said that it means Rainbow in some two-legger talk. I guess I do look kinda like a rainbow, huh?" The foal did his best to twist his head around so he could see his colorful pelt. "What does your name mean?"

He was a colt and that made the flattery different. She still blushed, a little, but she didn't trip over her tongue. If he were older, no doubt she'd have stumbled for a while. As it was, she said, "Thank you, Amitola, that's a very nice thing to say."
"I do think so," she answered. "And your mother was right. You have all the colors of a rainbow. I've never seen anyone like you." That was honest truth. "Oh, my name? It means jasmine, like the flower."

"Well, Daddy's got rainbows like me. 'Cept he's got a different tail. And his hair's different. And he doesn't have wings like mine." He nodded, swishing his tail around. "Ooo! And his horn's a different color. And, and, and, he doesn't have spots on his back end like me. I get that from Mamma." Smiling, Amitola asked, "Where'd you get your stuff from?"

His enthusiasm was truly infectious. Yazmina felt a little like bouncing, herself. "From my parents, as well," she told him. "My stripes from my father, my color from my mother. My wings and horn came from both of them."

"So they like... Both had wings and a horn? So cool! Only Mamma has both a horn and wings. Daddy only has a horn." The foal jumped on his front hooves excitedly as he saw a butterfly. "Oh, look! It's got wings kind of like me!"

Yazmina startled slightly, wings fanning out just in case she needed to get away from whatever had made the colt jump. When she spotted the butterfly too, though, she laughed at herself and shook her head. "A little like yours, yes. Do you suppose you're part butterfly?"

Amitola made a funny face and pondered the question. "Part butterfly? I dunno... Are you part bird?" He cocked his head to the side and circled her, examining her wings more closely. "Why's there purple stuff on 'em?"
