“May this idea is stupid.” Tango couldn’t help but voice his thoughts as the pair walked down the silent street, May’s head turning left and right, seeking out a building that she hoped to be able to recognize.

“It’s not stupid. Me and Kyra did it when we were younger. It’s nice.” May defended, pausing in her search to shoot a glare at her son. She’d spent a long time on the object clutched tightly in her right hand, the least Tango could do was appreciate the gesture.

“You’re sisters. And more importantly girls. I don’t think the same concept applies to me and Pollux. We’re bo-“ He bit down on his tongue and a snort that sounded something like a giggle of victory- crossed with a choking pig- escaped from May. He saw her glare from before, and raised her by ten. “I still say this is stupid.”

“You say a lot of things. I’m slowly learning how to drown you out.”

Seriously though, May? A friendship necklace?” He huffed a disappointed sigh, shoving his hands in his pockets, kicking a stray pebble out of his way in the road. He had to admit, the bright pinks, greens, blues and yellows would make the other boy happy. Anything made Pollux happy, but he grimaced at the idea of getting any form of jewelry back from the boy. After all- he doubted Polly had anything that fit his tastes. It made him nervous at the idea.

“I know its around here...some...where...” May murmured snapping Tango out of his thoughts. He looked up, no longer gazing at the streets, to take in the buildings before him. With another, hopeless sigh, he quickened his pace to make it to the designated door and raised his fist to knock.

By the time his fist hit the wood for a third time, May had made it by his side and slipped the necklace into his palm. The beads felt cool in his hand, and he rolled his eyes skyward, praying to some god this wouldn’t turn out to be an insane ordeal...like the skirt shopping.

Samuel shuffled toward the door in his boxers and rubbed his eyes. Nine was early for him. Hell, noon was occasionally early for him. He figured, though, that any matter this time of day was certainly an emergency.

The man flipped down the peephole cover and peered outside.

Oh, May, you silly lady.

Samuel gave a little snort of laughter and shook his head, closing the eyehole.

"One moment, please," he projected and shuffled back into the living room. The tiny body on the futon just twitched. Samuel approached and kissed Polly lightly on the temple. The child awoke...slowly.

"Hmmmn?"

"Tango's here."

Polly was suddenly fully awake and grinning as he leaped off of the futon and flew to the door in his grey nightgown. Samuel shook his head and pulled on a white t-shirt and pair of cargo shorts from the day before.

Polly whipped the door open and laughed.

"Hi! HI!" He was too excited for just one greeting.

Tango knew it was Polly’s father who spoke on the other side of the door, from the way May stood tense and her face instantly went into flames, before he even recognized the voice. He was tempted to poke her and see if she fell over like a stick. He fought back the urge only because he heard Pollux’s footsteps as he came to the door.

He wasn’t particularly surprised with the enthusiasm the boy showed at his visit. He was, however, surprised to see he was in his Pjs still. Was it not normal to wake up every morning at five? The Taurt household all seemed to be in the habit of it. Well– excluding Raito. He took some time to break into the habit.

...So then–

He shot a dirty glare at May, coming to the conclusion she was nothing more than a cruel tyrant who liked to deprive him of sleep. She seemed unaffected by his gaze, as her face was still red, and didn’t seem to be dying down. The insane woman just stood, staring at the open doorway, as if waiting for a ghost to appear. Dummy.

He turned his attention back to Pollux and without a word, threw the necklace into the air, not particularly caring if the boy caught it or not. It wasn’t exactly breakable, and if Polly wanted it bad enough, he’d catch it.

"Wait, wait, let me get yours!" Polly cheered and immediately turned, allowing the necklace to clatter to the front steps. He went to his toy box and pulled open the 'special drawer', removing a red-beaded necklace and clutching it in his hand. Only then did he start back.

Samuel, however, had beaten him there. Now fully-dressed, he grabbed May's hand and kissed the top of it briefly.

"Good morning, May. Tango. How are you?"

A little hand then jutted out around Samuel's legs, followed by Polly's body. His father laughed as the child moved to stand in front of him.

"Here, Tango!"

Tango gave a grunt of nervousness and frustration as he saw the necklace fall to the floor. With a sense of trepidation, he bent to pick up the fallen object. When he stood he saw Samuel making his way towards them, so quickly, he shuffled to May’s side, giving the male a better view of her without his head in the way.

To his surprise, and probably more importantly- May’s, the man didn’t simply greet his mother, but rather, kissed her hand. He watched in amusement as the journalist instantly started to open and close her mouth, no sound coming out. It was, apparently, her favorite thing to do in Samuel’s presence.

After a moment the girl caught her wits, and going a shade deeper in the face stuttered out “G-g-good m-morning S-s-Samuel. F-fine I’m d-doing. A-and yourself?”

“Proper grammar, May.” Tango reprimanded with a chuckle, his eyes glittering at his new found amusement “It’s ‘I’m doing fine, and yourself?’ not ‘Fine I’m doing. And yourself?”

May shot an alarmed look at her son, realizing her mistake, and turned to look desperately at the male before her, wishing to disappear into the floor.

At that moment, thankfully, Polly showed up with his necklace. Tango swallowed a lump in his throat before reaching out to grasp the object. Much to his surprise, he loved it. “Wow...” He breathed out, taking in the sight of the dragon before him. Awe-struck, he barely realized that he’d lifted his hand out with the other boy’s necklace in it.

Samuel just chuckled. Oh, May, he'd only met you once, and he knew precisely what to expect.

"We're doing quite well, thank you."

Polly took his necklace and giggled gleefully, taking it and looping it around his neck. Awesome! It was perfect.

"Do you like it?!" he asked Tango of his own necklace, fiddling with his own. Yaaay!

“That’s good,” It came out as a high pitched squeak and she wanted to cry. How come she seemed to suddenly forget how to talk normally whenever Samuel was around? Oh, it was aggravating, for sure. Not knowing what else to say, she simply lowered her eyes to the ground, staring at the laces of her shoes, not saying anything else. Coming was a bad idea...

“I do.” Tango answered, sliding his own necklace around his neck. “You did a good job,” He praised, his hand coming to Polly’s head, patting it twice. “Thanks.” He lowered his chin down to his chest, trying to look at the necklace from where it sat around his neck. “Where did you get this, anyways?” He asked, his fingers coming up to touch the edges.

Polly grinned, bouncing on the balls of his feet.

"Daddy let me use some stuff from the store!" he chirped, "I'm glad you like it!" He knew how much a pat on the head was, coming from Tango. It was just as exciting and pleasant as a hug or maybe even a friendly kiss.

Samuel smiled fondly down at his son and sighed. Gracious and generous. Either he was doing something right, or Polly was the second coming of Jesus.

"Well, would you like to come in?" he asked suddenly. He didn't mind May's company, and he knew how fond Polly was of Tango. That, and it was only polite after leaving guests on the porch for so long.

May opened her mouth to reject. Really, she did! After all, her stomach was churning uncomfortably at the mere sight of the man before her, and she was sure her face resembled that of a tomato. That was a bad idea, this was a bad idea. The thought repeated itself in her head like a mantra, and she felt dizzy. Someone in the back of her mind sneered to her that someone like Samuel probably was either gay, or had some dainty little princess waiting for him somewhere. After all, good looking, charming, REAL LIFE gentlemen didn’t exist in this world. Or, at the very least in May’s.

So when she opened her mouth, she was surprised to find that it came out as an only slightly lowered pitch, and it was assenting. “Of course we would. Thank you, Mr. Samuel.”

Well, the politeness she was seeking was there, but the words weren’t and she looked down to see Tango smirking devilishly at her. Ah. Yeah. She thought there had been something funny about her voice. It was that of a prepubescent monster. “A-actually...” She stammered out, looking at the ground, “I-I think w-we should go...it looks like...we...urm...uhm...woke y-you up. I-I’m sorry...” She found when she was counting the cracks in the sidewalk it was a bit easier to talk to the male. Sure, she still held that mortifying stutter, but at least her words were in the proper order.

Tango let a genuinely disappointed frown grace his features. He, for once, didn’t actually want to go, just yet. He wanted to see Polly’s green bear, and he wanted to ask the boy if they could play fetch with it or something. For the first time he actually wanted to hang with Pollux, and May was dragging him away? He shot the closest he’d ever come to a pleading glance at Polly, then his dad, hoping one of them could change the woman’s mind. The bear! For Christ’s sake, he wanted to see the bear!

Samuel smiled at the first sentence, but it fell as soon as the other crossed May's lips. as he that frightening? Was she that uncomfortable? He saw Tango's pleading gaze and looked down to Polly who just looked back. Ah, those eyes, bright as they were, seemed full of some kind of deep sadness.

"Had you not woken me up, I was liable to sleep through the day," Samuel replied as his eyes left Polly's, "and, please, if there is something else keeping you from accepting, tell me."

Polly knew enough to not speak. You couldn't reason with an adult, he knew that much. You could, however, puff our your lower lip and give the puppy eyes until they caved. That usually worked.

May rose her head at the sound of Samuel’s voice. Her orbs seeking the green ones that the voice’s owner possessed. Instead, however, she came to lock them on Polly’s bright bi-colored orbs.

The annoyance she usually reserved for Tango when he tricked her into doing something she didn’t want to, was built up in her chest by the young boy almost immediately. May, after all, was a horribly sore loser, and she could already predict emanate defeat, just by that look in his eyes and the voice of his father still ringing in her ears.

As a last ditch attempt at still winning the argument, she drove her eyes away from the child only to lock on the emerald iris’ of her son. There was a pleading tone in them that she wasn’t accustomed to seeing, and just beyond that, she could see smugness. Oh yes, he already knew he had won.

She let out a defeated sigh, muttering something about a “darn brat” under her breath before looking up at Samuel. The blush that had died away in the face of surrender returned with full splendor as she fought to keep eye contact without giving into her wobbly knees. She swallowed the lump in her throat, that suddenly felt all too dry before stammering out “I-f we...aren’t b-bothering you...th-then I suppose...I would...that is to say...we...yes, we would...love...the uhm...er...”

“Company?” Tango finished for her, looking up at her with a devilish smile on his expression.

“Aa–yes. Company” Oh, for sure she’d love to stay in Sam’s company, she just wasn’t so sure her poor heart could handle it. ...Oh well, too late to back out now.

Samuel smiled and nodded. Perhaps having May in for an extended period of time would be less pleasurable than he'd thought. A stammering companion was much less--ah, but no, he couldn't think such a thing. It wasn't right.

"Please. Do come in. V byenvini," he said and stepped aside, allowing room for his guests to enter.

Polly was bouncing again, giggling to himself and positively bubbling over with pure glee.

"C'mon, Tango! We can play!" Again, apparently.

May hung her head, finding the cracks in the floor much more interesting then any of the people around her. After all, what was it her mother always used to say? ‘She looked so intelligent...then she opened her mouth.’ Ah, yes, it was a hard life sometimes.

Tango took in May’s reaction to Samuel and sighed, rolling his eyes skyward. She could be so...weird sometimes. Oh well, wasn’t his problem. He turned to Pollux with an excited grin, one that was highly uncharacteristic, yet matched his age none-the-less. “Can we play in the yard with your bear, too?! Does it know tag? I bet playing tag with a bear would be fun!” He paused, a devilish grin forming on his face “There’s no way you could catch me, Pollux.” He goaded, a smirk on his face suggesting that it was just a childish taunt rather than an insult.

Oh yes, he wanted to run around and pretend May wasn’t related to him the least. Especially not when Polly’s cool dad was around. Much to his surprise, and a horror (Or was it shame?) May chose that moment to snap out of whatever stupor she had been in to snap at him.

“Playing with bears? Tango, if you make that thing chase me so help me-“

He rolled his eyes once more, this time in an exaggerated motion. “Now, May, why would I do that?” His eyes narrowed, giving her the look he saved for her dumber moments.

“I don’t know? Payback for the shirts? Something.”

“Oh? I already got you back for that. Anyways,” He turned to Pollux, his moment of childish enthusiasm dying back down to his normal self, his hands finding a way to his pants pockets, his thumbs only sticking out. He yawned, showing he was bored of the situation, and his mother, already and jerked his head to Polly. “Come on.” He murmured, eager to get away from May before she could question him on his words.

“...huh?” Was all she could murmur before giving a defeated sigh. With her son ignoring her, she was left only to hang her head once more towards the ground- more in an attempt to recall whatever prank he'd done to 'get her back'- then in her shame of her actions in front of Samuel.

Polly just nodded and watched as Tango talked. In response to the taunt, he murmured a soft 'bet you're way faster', but just as soon returned to his automatic, monotonous reaction. He didn't understand why Tango was so mean to his Mommy and, even then, why she allowed him to be. He'd learned over time, however, that other people raised their kids differently than Daddy did him. That was fine with him!

"Mint knows how to play lotsa games!" Polly said and grinned as he led Tango out the back door, "I taught her!" Indeed he had. The poor thing could barely go a day after his birth without learning a new 'game'.

Back in the house, Samuel turned from watching the children go.

"Would you like so tea? Food? Are you hungry?" he asked May softly, "Can I do anything to make you more comfortable?"
