It was a quiet morning - the kind that Dejiki loved best. A delicate breeze flittered through the rogue lands, gently rippling Dejiki's fur. With a sigh, the youngster closed his eyes and drew a deep breath, and almost drew back in surprise as the cool air bit him with its distinctly refreshing chill. Straight away, he grinned. Today, he decided, he was going to have a rather good play. Checking to make sure his parents were out of sight, the young wild dog cub darted playfully into the long grass in search of something to do (or, if he was lucky enough, someone to play with).
“There’s gotta’ be someone around here,” he muttered, lifting his nose in an attempt to draw a scent – he found none, “Ah, gawd. I finally leave the den by myself, and there’s nobody around to tumble with.”
He pouted – the thought of not having anyone to tumble about with in the grass on such a wonderful morning was certainly a disappointment. After all, it wasn’t everyday that he felt so full of energy, and he was just so keen to have a go at playing a game. Even a chat to someone from his own age-group would have been nice. Playing with his dad, after all, was only 'cool' to a certain extent. Dejiki really needed someone else to spend some time with.
“I’m sick of talkin’ to adults,” he sulked, ears drooping. Disheartened, the young pup plonked himself down on a rock amongst the grass, and began to chew on his paws in slight irritation, “Man, it's times like these that I really wish I wasn’t an only child. Geez, other wild dog families have more kids, don't they? I'm so bored by myself. Ugh.”
He gave an irritable snap at a passing fly.

If only the little wild dog knew he was being watched by a certain juvenile cheetah...
It had been a few weeks since Aang's parents had told him to leave his home, and not to return until he was a wiser Sanamu... The Moto'dola had finally found where he was hiding, and sought to erase him from the universe to ensure their conquest was complete. It hurt, knowing an entire Maji'mbari group would likely be wiped out... All in an effort to protect him, a little cheetah born with arrows on his fur...
He tried not to think about it, but he'd do as his parents wished... Until he was older and stronger, he would not return to his home... He would explore the world and hopefully find friends... And allies. Others who would help him rescue his home from the pit of despair.
He didn't think about any of that. Instead, he just watched the wild dog... Biding his time until...
"FROWWWWWR!"
A rather pitiful roar as he made his move, diving forward and tackling the wild dog to the ground, tumbling along with him.

"Wh-whoooaaaah!"
Dejiki reeled backwards in surprise as he turned to see, from the corner of his eye, the body of a young cheetah hurtling towards him. In an instant, the cheetah’s paws has curled mid-air over Deji’s sides, locking him in place, and the two fell in synchronicity, tumbling over each other into the dust.
At first, the little wild dog was shocked. A pang of fear rushed through him… perhaps his assailant was a predator, intent on ripping him apart! Perhaps they'd slice open his stomach with a claw and rip out his insides, or swallow him whole with one quick gulp! Perhaps, just perhaps, he’d never live to see his parents ever, ever again!
With a yowl, the young dog struggled in an impulsive attempt to hurl his attacker off and regain his footing, but after a second of wriggling he stopped. On top of him, it seemed, was another youngster, pinning him to the ground. He didn’t look too threatening, actually, although Dejiki had to note that he was a feline, and his mother had warned him that felines were very tricky in general.
Still, the arrival of the juvenile presented Dejiki with a potential playmate. Dejiki was quite unaware of whom exactly this stranger was, or the ordeals the cheetah had faced, but to Dejiki, this didn’t matter one bit. He was another ‘pup’, and that was all Dejiki needed to know at this point.
“Oh, sheesh! You freakin’ scared me, there!” he grinned, still lying underneath the stranger, his paws pressed against the feline’s chest, “I thought you were some kind of nasty monster or something!”
His smile fell for a moment, and he paused in thought.
“You… aren’t a monster, are you?” he asked cautiously, "Bloody 'ell."

Aang's grin widened as they tumbled, and he grinned down at the wild dog triumphantly from his spot on top. At his words, he paused for a moment, and pondered.
"Do I look like a monster? I don't think I'm a monster," he said, rather seriously, before shrugging it off and bouncing off the pup. "I'm Aang! What's your name?"

Dejiki paused, chewing on his lip thoughtfully as he stared up at the young cheetah’s face.
“I dunno... monsters are sneaky. I hear that they can take any form, shape-shift into any creature and eat little wild dogs, carving jewelry from their bones. At least, that’s what my parents tell me every night before sleep…” he leant forward as Aang released him, “Oh, but, uh… I’m not scared or anything. I guess you're not a monster, 'cause you're not wearing jewelry. Well, it's nice to meet you, Aang!” his eyes brightened, “I’m Dejiki… but you can call me ‘Deji’. It sounds more heroic, don’t you think?”
Grinning broadly, he snapped energetically at a passing fly.
“Any monsters that cross us are dead meat!” he laughed, nudging Aang’s side, “I mean, who needs adults, when us ‘pups’ like us can do the job just as well, right?!”
