I've been thinking on this for the longest time, what happens to the mind when we die? We think, and progress in life; but not like other organisms do. The human mind is an unexplored place, full of secrets and mysteries. There are religions that say there is an afterlife, such as living peacefully in heaven or burning in hell. Does the mind go to another plane of existence/dimension? Or does it stay on Earth, wondering around the world, kind of like the Life Stream in Final Fantasy 7. If it does stay, can you see those who are already deceased and those who are still living? Do you become a ghost, and in some cases, haunt places/people?
I've also read a book called Life After Life, and it is truly fascinating. It is a summery of a collection of stories told by those pronounced clinically dead. You should check it out sometime.

I'll post more later, but for now, I'd like some feedback. 3nodding

There are a lot of things that we don't understand about ourselves.
Our brains are supercomputers, and our minds run off that. You can compare so many things between ourselves and computers, and still you won't find any computer on Earth as complex as our minds.

Did you know that we see in high definition, and have always seen in high definition? And yet technicians are nowhere near being able to create a picture on a television that even comes close to our own visual capabilities?

It we keep this to fantasy and the supernatural, nearly everything we take for granted as being "imaginary" has the potential to be real. If then we keep it to the human mind, there are already accounts of magic being used by certain individuals in certain ways. Take the Shaolin Monks for example, how the heck can they do what they do without being harmed? Scientists reckon that we only use about...what is it? Ten percent of our brains or something consciously? The rest of it wouldn't be there if we weren't meant to use it somehow. I can see that some people are now looking into how we can use our minds, such as the monks, but most of us have no idea where to begin. Anyone is welcome to look into this with me, but I heard something not so long back that said some scientists are researching it, and that they believe things like telekinesis (and much more) are possible.

Regarding what you were saying about what happens to the mind when we die, I'm not entirely sure what to say at the moment because I can't put the words to it at the moment. However, there is a quote from the guide of Vagrant Story that is VERY interesting...

"The body is but a vessel for the soul; a puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny. And lo, the body is not eternal, for it must feed on the flesh of others. Lest it return to the dust whence it came. Therefore must the soul deceive, despise and murder men."

It has been said that way back in time when we were closer with each other and the world we could do everything that we can now only imagine. Some speculate that humans have the potential of telepathy and communicating with another from the other side of the globe. They also say that once we were able to move the Earth and everything around us with our minds and the use of sound, just like those in "Avatar: The Last Airbender" can. That also includes moving inanimate objects like spoons and lamps.

If you look at those like the Shaolin monks, they have a very calm mind, body, and spirit by meditating a lot and keeping their levels of chakra very high and open. They are able to combine all three into one and are then able to do things like stay in the air for very long periods of time and walk on broken glass and flaming coals without getting hurt. "Mind over matter" holds so true. You just have to know how to do it and what it takes to get there.

There's too much to discuss on this subject and I suppose there's a lot of philosophy involved, isn't it? I agree with both Mel And E-Dragon but I don't have much to add for the moment. sweatdrop

Yes, there is quite a bit to discuss. I also agree with some of what Mel and E-Dragon said.

the Muslims believe that the body is a vessel, and that you are reborn into higher or lower cast systems based on how you acted out your life. That's most likely where Mel's Vagrant Story got its idea.

Edit:

Hindus and Bhuddists, not muslims. Should've known that since my class just got a lecture on this same subject not too long ago. sweatdrop

Thanks for pointing that out Berz.

That's Hinduism and Buddhism. Islam (followed by Muslims) doesn't hold to reincarnation. They hold to the Day of Judgment and an ultimate resurrection, like the other Abrahamic religions, but not reincarnation.

I suppose that since our mind is so complex, it would only be natural to have many religions, huh?

I must say that the human mind does seem like it could be some sort of portal into a whole new dimension. After all, lots of concepts come from great minds like Lucas, Tolkien and Spielberg; just to name a few. 3nodding

I feel that there's a lot more to ourselves that we don't understand. There are only an elite few groups of people in the world who know more about it, but even they don't know the half of it. The Shaolin Monks are one example of such people. The whole concept of mind over matter.

I'm not afraid to talk about what I believe in this sense because it truly is what I think. Some Christians believe they're very close to God in a way that many wouldn't understand. I personally believe that I have such a relationship with Him, because I have had thoughts enter my mind that I know are not my own. I even speak to Him this way. Telepathy between human beings may be almost unheard of, but people often pray silently because they believe that God knows their thoughts and what they're going to say before they even say a single word. If true telepathy is possible between people, we haven't discovered a way to do it yet (at least in the Western world).

It's things like that which make me wonder what kind of capabilities we actually harbour.

Yes, yes, they say the human mind hasn't been fully tapped into so there's still lots that we could discover about it. Maybe some of the things we see in fantasy or sci-fi shows might be onto something pertaining the things we could do if we could use 100% of our brains.

I think I understand what yer saying Mel cuz I pray silently too. Sometimes I think we are all part of a greater mind (God's mind maybe) and that's usually why some can't seem to come up with the same concepts but, it may also explain why some minds think alike. mrgreen
I hope I'm making sense here...
