You know them, I know them. They're the foods that we should eat more. They're the foods that we like/love/do not mind, that are NOT high in fat that are very good for us...

What's your favourite slim food, and how do you think you could incorporate it into your diet more?

For me, my slim foods are:

Smoothies: I use frozen berries with soy milk, yogurt, and usually a banana, and as a vegetarian with thyroid problems, I have a special additive powder stuff that kinda changes the consistency but is still nice. I should drink them more.

Plan! I just bought loads of frozen berries, and have yogurt and soy milk on hand all the time. once a day from now on.

Spinach:
I enjoy it in everything almost.

Plan! Moar sautee'd garlic spinach. (This is so easy I'm going to share, you take garlic, start sautee-ing the garlic in some oil, and then after a few minutes, add looooots o' spinach, stir it about for around five minutes or until the spinach starts to wilt.

Bell peppers: ... need I say more?

Plan! Eat them. ._.

SHARE!

Frozen berry vanilla soy milk goodness:

This is a wonderful cooling snack, my most awesome friend thought it up, the soy milk has a very nice creamyness and as you smoosh up the berries it will all solidify into something veeereh nice.

For this you will need frozen berries. A cup. Vanilla extract. And soy milk, Preferably silk, NOT the low fat kind.

Take a cup, fill it with berries (not quite to the top), they have to be smallish, so if you've got strawberries, you'll need to cut them up. Think nothing tooo much bigger than your thumbnail.

Add around a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Fill the cup with soy milk just enough to cover the berries, and then grab an eating utensil (I being the dish dirtier that I am, I use a fork, then a spoon to eat) and smoosh smoosh smoosh those berries.

And viola, you have tasty tasty awesome.

If I'm hungry I take to eating pineapple until my mouth is sore. (So about half a cup XP)

That way I can't eat anything for a few hours. And I <3 pineapple.

Are you allergic to pineapple? It makes my mouth funny too, kinda burns it

Not that I know of. Ever since I was little the amount of acid in it has always made fresh pineapple burn my mouth. Canned pineapple doesn't do it though.

I actually love a lot of the foods that people all need to eat more of. In fact, Fruits and Veggies are my favourite foods. Problem is, I live with my parents and they're not much of one for fruits and veggies. The most we'll have here is carrots and (maybe) apples. So either I have to go with them shopping or remind them and hope they get something. (The most they get is my mum gets avocados (which I don't like eating) and then forgets about them and they rot. gonk )

I love soy milk too. And green tea. Actually, given the chance, I'll drink green tea over, well, anything. If I have green tea, I won't even bother drinking soda or energy drinks.

I LOVE the zero-fat hummus from Oasis. Rather than scooping it up with pita, I scoop it up with sliced cucumbers, bell peppers (all colors thereof), carrots, and other crispy vegetables. It's healthy; and as an added bonus, you don't have to cook it, so you're not making the house hot with the heat of the oven.

I'm also very fond of Israeli salad (2 cucumbers, 2 Roma tomatoes, 1 bell pepper, 3 scallions; a tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of lemon juice, lime juice, or balsamic vinegar; salt, pepper, and sometimes I toss in other herbs for additional flavor). I could eat that all day, every day, and never get tired of it.

In the winter, I like Peel-A-Pound soup (one each: shredded cabbage, onion, celery, tomato, carrot, bell pepper, plus some vegetable bullion cubes and a wee bit of Tabasco sauce; boil 5 minutes, then simmer 30 minutes).

I eat a lot of fish, too, usually pan-seared or baked with fresh herbs. Once a week, I make a chicken for dinner. My RLSO and I can have a leg on Friday night, a breast on Saturday (two servings per breast -- usually one sandwich and one salad), then pick the rest apart for tossing onto salads for the next two or three days' light dinners. For lunches, my proteins are usually either yogurt or cheese.

High-fiber cereals plus a bit of 'lite' soy milk make up my breakfasts. And for snacks, it's ALL about the fresh fruits, especially when spring and summer roll around and it's all so plump and juicy and sweet. I eat berries and grapes like they're going out of style.

The isreali salad sounds FANTASTIC. Goodness, and I'll bet it only gets better when you leave it sit for a while. (Ie: the time between when you make it and when you finish it)

As far as hummus goes, I have always proffered to make my own. It's dead easy and you know exactly what's going into it.

This isn't some odd thing really, it happens to everyone some people may differ in their sensitivity to pH but it's fairly universal, canned pineapple has sugar in it, and most of the acids have leeched into the juice, but you'd have to drink a fair bit to get the same reaction as you do from fresh pineapple, which has no sugar and hasn't been soaked for weeks upon weeks. And cooking something usually degrades the taste of the food in some way, garlic is easier to swallow for those that don't like it, pineapple is less painful.

Something that IS odd however is not being able to eat tomatoes, I worked with a guy that couldn't, it's not allergies, it's pH.

THOUGH, some people are genuinely allergic to pineapple. Thankfully, of that group I am not.

Yep! What I do is get home from work, put all the Israeli salad ingredients into a bowl, stir it up, and then let it sit and marinate for about 15 minutes while I shower away the city grit. By the time I'm done with my shower, the flavors of the herbs and vegetables have had a chance to 'marry' a bit, and it's just delicious!

I also love a fruity variation on it. Keep one cucumber, replacing the other with a sliced Granny Smith apple; replace the tomatoes with halved grapes (red seedless and green seedless) and chunks of mango or nectarine or honeydew melon. Then instead of salt/pepper/savoury herbs/olive oil, I use sweet flavorings: a teaspoonful of sugar or Splenda, a dash of cinnamon, a tiny pinch of cardamom, and a tiny pinch of salt to bring out the flavors of the fruits. Sometimes I also add a handful or two of pomegranate seeds, if they're in season, or some sweetened dried cranberries I call this my Forbidden Fruit salad, since at one time or another, most of these fruits were considered (by one or more scholars or pseudo-scholars) to be the famous "apple" that was eaten in the Garden of Eden.

thats interesting, i think you're right about the pH, but then why don't lemons do the same thing? They're pretty acidic but nothing bad happens if i eat them raw

I used to not be able to eat tomatos when i was little, but it seems like i grew out of that one. It was funny, because my mum would try to get me to try them and i didnt like them so i kept saying no- then one day i give in and have some, and come out in a rash xd ha! told you so mum!

Do you often eat four or five lemons in a row? I think that's probably the equivalent of the amount of pineapple I could eat right now.

Lemons are also softer and less rough than fresh pineapple, it kinda grates down your throat.
